@lotlizard Our federal capital has relocated before, it can do so again; this time, move it someplace far, FAAAAR away from Virginia, the friggin' birthplace (and from what I understand, still the ultimate heartland) of American fascism. From what I gather, the Eastern US has always been more authoritarian than the West (where I've lived my whole life); simply moving the seat of our government somewhere beyond Tornado Alley might actually do some palpable good all by itself!

You'd think the rise of Silicon Valley would be a good thing for precisely this reason, but instead it seems to have been colonized. It was an entirely different place when I lived there, grounded in entirely different industries - not glamorous ("Nobody gives a fuck about disk-drives!" my father once declared miserably when explaining why we moved away - a move that has made him happy, but ruined my life), but real. Every time I hear about the place now, they're talking about a place I don't recognize (and I'm not sure I believe all of it, either - NYC refuses to believe anywhere could possibly be more cosmopolitan and authentically liberal than they!).

It is also not comforting to hear that he is going to make a Prime Time Address to the nation on Thursday. That means he will be reading whatever is loaded into his teleprompter. Big deal. \s

As far as a SOTU speech, Obama gave a speech in February/March of 2009 where he addressed the Joint Houses of Congress. He called it something other than SOTU, because a new President really wasn't supposed to be ready to do a SOTU.

I said then and I say now, "If it looks like a duck, etc."

Funny, before the election asking questions about Biden’s metal capacity was met with a “HOW DARE YOU?” and pure shock! Now stories like these are creeping out.

Furthermore, they’re trying to get Kamala up to speed on foreign stuff and she’s even making calls without Joe. Hmm...

One other “maybe it’s just me” thing, but I’ve noticed that more often than not, if I see a pic of Joe, Kamala is in it also. Sometimes it’s almost subliminal, like she’s out of focus. But you know it’s her.

'One of Biden's first actions when he took office was to reverse former President Donald Trump's travel ban on 13 mostly Muslim-majority and African countries, describing it as a "stain on our national conscience." He tasked the State Department to come up with a way to deal with the issue within 45 days.
On Monday, the State Department announced those who had been denied entry to the U.S. on or after January 20, 2020 could "seek readjudication" without resubmitting their application forms if their initial requests were valid.

Those denied entry before that date could also be reconsidered, although they needed to submit new applications.

However, applicants selected via the diversity lottery who had not been issued visas because of the ban between the fiscal years of 2017 and 2020 would not be entitled to new visas.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said that a large number of Africans would be affected and that Biden "has failed to help so many of those harmed" by the Trump administration's immigration restrictions.

"Instead of restoring this opportunity, President Biden just dusted off Trump's 'CLOSED' sign and locked the door behind him," ACLU's senior legislative and advocacy counsel, Manar Waheed, said in a statement.

that the Camel' hubbie Doug Emhoff being jewish, thus the first jew to inhabit the White House had tipped the scales, i was musing last night that openly gay Gov Jared Polis (married w/ 2 kids) might be a good choice for Kamala's veep.

as far as their ID cabinet ethnicities, colors, and genders, polis ticks two ID boxes: openly gay AND jewish. he and his partner have two kids, as well.

he's clearly had his sites set on the WH since he was a Regent at CU boulder in the the late '60s, and has been on that trajectory since that time. and his wiki has a photo of him, his partner marlon reis, and michelle obomba. lord luv a duck, she looks yukky.
