I don't know about you, but I think this fits. Sure, it lacks the jingoistic platitudes about patriotism and god and such, but this is how it always was. From colonial times to now the greedy plutocracy has always ruled with an iron fist, placating the masses with token gestures or simply punching them down from time to time to prevent full scale rebellion against their rule.
From 1980 onward the mask had slowly been peeled away from the American Empire but with Trump's installation via the Electoral College, that mask is off. The insanity, stupidity and outright greed of the American Bourgeoisie is in plain view, balls out, for all to see....that is, except for Clinton and Trump's most ardent supporters as one side screams 'FAKE NEWS', 'CUCK' or 'SJW' at anything that speaks critically of the Orange Cheeto and the other screams 'RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA' or 'RACIST SEXIST BLAH BLAH BLAH' at anything and anyone that refuses to get behind the 'unity' of Clinton shill Tom Perez.
The problem is, with all the screaming and yelling, the ways in which every last one of us is being fucked are being outright ignored. Hell, the Democratic 'Resistance' is all but sucking off Trumpy Boy after the bombings in Afghanistan and Syria. Not only that, but Trumpy Boy and ISIS affiliates are currently working to overthrow Indonesia's current government (And conveniently, Cheeto has a few business interests over there).
So what the hell can we do about it? We can't simply vote because those at the top control which candidates get elected and the scope of opinion and policy. We can't have a constitutional convention because too many currently in office would shred what little protections, if any are contained within for the sake of lining their own pockets. We can't even go for armed revolt because that would play right into the hands of defense contractors. And you know how those fuckers love bloody, needless, drawn out armed conflict.
So I guess I'll just keep asking myself what we can do about it as we all continue to burn and burn out at both ends.

There is an unwritten Article to the Constitution
that imposes predatory capitalism as both the economic system and the true system of governance. Some, like the Berners would reform it, which is something intellectually along the same lines as domesticating a pit viper.
It cannot be reformed, but it can be subverted, and that should be a major goal and something achieved throughout the day in many ways through many small acts causing death by a myriad infinitesimal paper cuts. Great imagination will be required, but here is but one idea.
In some places cities of cpunties have planted trees for shade or scenery or other purpose that actually produce edible fruit. Where such fruit overhangs the public way, pick some and then share it with your neighbors. You share and thereby build community. You step outside of the market economy for a moment; everybody gets a small nutritional benefit without spending the currency of the realm. The idea of sharing and foraging as a communal/community good begins to take shape. The idea of a community itself begins to take shape.

I was at the grocery after noon today.
Suddenly the Star-Spangled Banner was blaring through the parking lot. It has been nearly a year since I was subjected to that. Turns out that the Cornell tennis facility was having some matches today with one or more Universities across the street. No one in the parking lot (strip mall) was paying any attention at all. So some of us are immune.
