My reply to the false narrative that Berniecrats are to blame for the shooting of Scalise

Conservatives like to talk about taking personal responsibility for ones actions and acknowledging that while we are free to do as we please, there are consequences we have to accept. This is a big part of their talking down to the left as if they have a Daddy Knows Best Complex. The reality is they're just trying to mask their bigoted, racist policies or make excuses for a kleptocracy they helped rise into power.

But here's the thing: On a basic, human level, they are right. People have to take some responsibility for their choices and they have to accept that there will sometimes be unacceptable (to them) consequences for their actions.

So before you start blaming Bernie "fanatics" for the actions of a lone shooter, consider that GOP conservative "fanatics" quietly repealed banking safeguards for the second time while the nations attention was diverted by the Comey testimony. The first time banking safeguards were repealed we had the bank meltdown in 2008 in which the banksters stole trillions of taxpayers money and the lives of millions were destroyed. Everyone's lives were impacted including the life of the lone shooter. No fucks given to those they committed this economic violence upon or the consequences that might befall upon these conservative fanatics. These same GOP conservative "fanatics" intend let millions die without healthcare with their new healthcare bill. No fucks given to those they will kill with this legislation or the consequences that might have upon said conservative fanatics. When these conservative fanatics gut education and gut aid to the poor, but hand out billions to Saudi Arabia and increase the military budget of a nation that already outspends the next four largest militaries in the world, they have no fucks given for the lives impacted, the economic violence they are committing or the consequences that might have upon themselves.

Well, the consequences of those actions became clear when a lone shooter made the choice to die under a hail of bullets if he could just get a few shots off at some of those conservative fanatics whose policies had so ruined his life that he sadly felt death was the better alternative. He had no fucks given if he was killed in the attempt. He was willing to accept the consequences of his actions.

It was a terrible, sad day, but before you blame Bernie supporters, you better take a big heaping dose of personal responsibility for your OWN actions and accept that if you continue to kill, destroy and betray people then days like this are the consequences of the choices you've made.

Now I'm neither supporting nor defending the actions of a lone gunman. I'm simply speaking a simple truth to power: Keep this up and people will keep popping up who want to kill you. After all, if you stole constantly from your relatives, let your uncle die without medical care, destroyed all your families lives, don't be surprised if your kids don't speak to you, your parents disown you and possibly, maybe, your spouse one day plunges a steak knife into your heart. I'm not condoning it, I'm just saying don't blame everyone else if your own heartlessness comes back to bite you.

I never knew that the term "Never Again" only pertained to

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews
now it's someone who Jews don't like"

Heard from Margaret Kimberley

2008 was preceded by the gutting of the old Glass-Steagall, thanks Bill Clinton, circa 1999. Dodd-Frank was the very much less restrictive "fix" to that repeal. We need a new Glass-Steagall, Dodd-Frank is/was full of those lovely loopholes lawyers just love.

The rest of this essay I agree heartily with. While I love to hate Democrats for their betrayal, and they fully deserve all of our wrath, I have far more hate for Repugnants and their POLICIES. It's the policies, stupid, to use a lame old adage. And when you encourage, every damned day, your supporters to use those "2nd Amendment remedies" don't be shocked when someone uses it on you.

literally divides us into two sides, left/right, conservative/liberal, republican/democrat is the problem. Those that supported Sanders, and still support Sanders in effect supported and are still supporting the democratic party and therefore this duopoly system.
Lots of blame to go around on both "sides".
Take a look at the conservative/republican/right wing blogs and they're almost rabid with their accusations against the "violent" left, how the left is totally opposite what they pretend to be, i.e, caring about people, etc. I've even seen a couple prominent right wingers, conservative Christian type say how they want to develop a peace, antiwar movement to counteract the disgusting violence from the left.
We're being led into this.

@Big Al @Big Al I know I have to work on my old paradigm of parties. That's such an old battle for me, my entire family are rabidly right and I've always argued back at that point of view. But I know the two are one, there are no real Democrats, I just bought into them far longer, and my active animosity towards RWNJ views helped them out for lots of years.

And yes to being set up. They're scared, as (edit gulfgal98) has mentioned in other threads, they're desperate to discredit the Left and this guy gave all of them an excuse.

@lizzyh7 A lot of people have been so tied into political parties their whole lives that it's hard to treat both the same. I never had that so it's not a problem for me. I because very active after 9/11 with Bush and the republicans which focused my ire on them. Then Obama came along, Daily Kos, etc., and I saw the other side up close and personal and that was that. I don't want any part of either party and they literally are the same thing to me, even down to how the people act and what they believe. They might think they're different, but there are amazing similarities.

I'm not even going to refer to myself as a lefty anymore, not after what I've seen the last year or so. Enough of that. It's got to be about what you believe in, the issues, ideology, etc. The labels do more harm then good.

@Big Al is that I know for a fact my mother's cousin won't be calling me to yammer on and on anymore. I gave him an earful as I was really shocked he was so enthused over Trump. He's a nice enough man, but his attitude about illegals, about Trump, about Muslims - I have no need or desire to engage with that. While I do love to argue with them and always did, it won't make any difference and I've given up beating that dead horse. It is good my mother is dead though, she was a Limbaugh lover, and I'd be yelling at her every single day with that idiot Rump in office. Some habits just refuse to die. And the older I get, the harder it is to keep my big mouth shut.

@lizzyh7
Take your cousin for an example. He 'hates' who hates because someone told him that they needed to be hated for some trumped up reason. Many people on the 'left' like to say that they keep voting against their best interests. Guess what? Democrats have been doing this same damned thing too.
It's the LOTE bull crap, but when was the last time that the democrats did anything for us down in the 99% bleachers? A very long time ago. How people can't see the damage that Barry did to them, is just mind boggling.
Sure the ACA helped some people, but how many more are paying for health insurance but can't use it because their premiums and deductibles are too damned high?
Right now a few republicans are working behind closed doors to make up a health care bill that they want to pas using reconciliation. If they get to do that, then why didn't the democrats use it.? Because they didn't want to pas a health care bill, they wanted to pass a health insurance bill. And that's why they kept letting the republicans water it down, but telling us that they did it because they wanted them to vote for it. Even though they told them they wouldn't.
Just more damn games with our lives.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Voting is like driving with a toy steering wheel.

@lizzyh7 but I'm starting to think Trump may have been a step too far for my parents, who are deep right wingers. I'm noticing the Fox News blaring a little less often when I go over there and they're a lot less likely to goad me into some political argument I don't want to have in the first place. As I've mentioned here before, my dad even told me he would have voted for Bernie, had he been allowed to run, which for a guy who was addicted to Limbaugh and O'Reilly says a lot.

And the refusal of the government to do anything meaningful about gun violence. I'm not implying for a minute this was a justified action, but when we live in a society where the government doesn't even keep accurate records on gun violence by design*, let alone do anything about it, and honestly I think it's only lack of opportunity that prevents more things like this from happening.

Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal's picture

If you oppose gun control because the citizenry should be armed so that it can prevent the central government from overstepping its bounds, then it shouldn't be a surprise when an extremely unhappy populace produces a few people who pick up their gun and shoot at politicians.

Why are they surprised?

Well, there is a reason to be surprised, mainly "How the hell did that guy make it through the security net that is established around all politicians, especially within commuting distance of DC?" but that's not really the issue.

The issue is that if you believe the populace should be armed to restrain the power of the government, that obviously implies that the populace will do that by shooting at the government.
