Midnight Mulling - Shelf-Space Starvation

1. reflect deeply on a subject

I mulled over the events of the afternoon; philosophers have speculated on the question of God for thousands of years; The scientist must stop to observe and start to excogitate

2. heat with sugar and spices to make a hot drink

mulled cider

Thanks to "Artha - The Open Thesaurus" I have a choice: Mull as meaning #1; or Mull as meaning #2.

I'm not choosing between those particular examples. "Excogitate" is the last word of the sentence #1; you know, the same sentence that starts with the words, "I mulled." A little too cozy, if you ask me. As for "Mulled cider," - #2 - maybe. As long as the sugar is scant, and the right spices are really the right spices, perhaps. But not like that bottled pre-mulled cider at the A & P. Yuck.

Of course that is not fair. The A & P in town closed, and "McGillicuddy's Mulled Cider" might have tasted good. But who knows. That's because, "McGillicuddy's Mulled Cider" was a victim of Shelf-Space Starvation.

Shelf-Space Starvation is typically a symptom of Unpopularity or Weak Marketing. Signs of Shelf-Space Starvation include placement on the bottom shelf or the highest shelf; unappetizing neighbors ("McGillicuddy's Mulled Cider" was next to "Accordion Brand - Old Fashioned Sauerkraut Juice" and both were on the lowest shelf); and the distributor's car keeps getting towed from the store's parking lot. The manager felt disrespected, I suppose. Or maybe the 'tip' was too small.

Shelf-Space Starvation can happen in the virtual world. Shelf-Space Starvation can happen to campaigns, too.

But that's another story. Perhaps Midnight Mulling can be continued. That would be up to you. Nevertheless, thank you for reading. And thank you for replying; if you so wish.

There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

"McGillicuddy" for a pre-bottled mulled cider. How could I resist.

best, john

I am not on the west coast. And, I do not drink "Accordion Brand - Old Fashioned Sauerkraut Juice" - I only named the stuff. (But there is a can of sauerkraut juice in my town. Or at least there was.)

But somesomewhere always is.
My excuse: clear skies, the moon was illuminating my pillows and that is enough.

And besides clear it is 21 degrees outside, good that the fruit trees are not abud. Caught that autocorrect.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

I like your analogy.

I'll take the real thing please, fresh autumn apple cider, and eye-level Bernie Sanders. Whatever happened to the east-coast A&Ps I remember?

But without clearance sales. Do they exist anywhere?
