Regarding the military
I don't think that remark was meant in any way to imply that its somehow OK for males to harass females while in the military. I think the point of the military issue is first and foremost that the military suppresses sexuality intentionally and then replaces that with violence. In a culture like that, and I've been in and seen some of that and that was peacetime 30 years ago, not war, it really should be expected that there will be some sexual harassment or abuse and quite frankly, the military is well aware they have a problem there, even if they do little to fix that. When you put a bunch of young people in life threatening situations where they must suppress emotion or feeling but then not only allow them but encourage them to enjoy some show that now worships sex, I think that IS a recipe for not only harassment, but outright rape, and not only females get raped. Just my two cents.

Al Franken isn't in the military. The tour had just started, the incident happened before the first show. They'd just arrived in Kuwait. Franken is a married man in his 50s, he was with his wife and family before leaving on this tour. He wasn't living in a military unit under those rules.
The issues of sexual repression and assault in the military are important. I totally agree the policies are ridiculous and doomed to cause problems of all kinds.
I'm just not seeing how that is connected to what Al Franken did to Leeann Tweeden when he shoved his tongue into her mouth against her will. It's a huge leap to say that military policies about sex among the troops is somehow to blame for his behavior.

doesn't rage. She is truly befuddled. She doesn't understand and hasn't the ability to deconstruct the reasons for a seemingly sudden rise of anger and mass insanity. It isn't sudden but has been bubbling up since the sixties. If a person hasn't been paying attention and trying to understand what is going on it looks just like water suddenly breaking into a boil. A "What? The heat was on?" moment. She's disgusted and indignant.
She's addicted to MSM to boot. She's relied on "the news" her entire life. She hasn't the foggiest notion that the news isn't "the news". Explaining it to her is futile. She's been captured by propaganda that looks exactly like what she's read and seen for most of her 84 years. She knows what she sees is not what she's being told exists but lacks tools, information, and an inclination to try to understand why. To question "the news" is to question everything she knows to be true about the US and the world. That's scary shit to most everyone. She is far from being alone in how she feels.

I also appreciate your explanation scientific/academic explanation. Most of my understanding is a result of life experience. Both approaches are useful to recognizing and understanding the phenomena. People are plain nuckingfuts. They don't know why or have the slightest idea of how to make sense of these times. Forget trying to change it. I'm more convinced every day that conditions have to get much worse before there is the slightest chance for improvement.
My family has been fortunate enough to know that any meltdown bad enough to affect us would be devastating to most of the country. I live in a reasonably safe area with the resources to get by in anything much less than worldwide nuclear war or a total break in society like Somalia. Yet my wife doesn't feel safe and can't stand all that is going on. We've been working the past year to GTFO. We're close. I expect to be living in Ecuador shortly after the New Year. Every time a moment of doubt passes through my mind there is something following close behind that tells me to hurry the hell up and just go.
My MIL chose to leave our home to go live with her half crazy older sister rather than retreat to safety and peace. She can't see that the craziness is not only the orange headed buffoon. He's but a symptom not the disease.
