Jimmy Dore: "People won't vote third party because they are brainwashed"

Jimmy does a really good job of shattering the logic of "Lesser Evil" voters. If you have friends who feel it's there moral duty to vote for one of the Corporatist Duopoly candidates just to save us from that greater evil monster, send them a link to this video. I just sent it to my brother who tried to tell me that a vote for Jill Stein is also a vote for Trump. Hogwash. #JillNotHill

Got hit by the "A vote for Stein is a vote for Trump." thing last night (from a self-proclaimed 'Socialist').

So I drew a small chart:

Clinton 0
Stein 1 (me)
Trump 0

Notice that my vote for Stein does not equal a vote for Trump (or Clinton).

But, but "Clinton's values are closer to yours, so you're depriving the Dem of your vote!"

Since when have I been a Democrat? My vote is not automatically Clinton's. Her values are closer to mine? Really?

Stein can't win........... blah, blah, blah.......

Well, she can't win if people don't vote for her, but if you like her message then vote for her. This 'she can't win' is just so much self-fulfilling BS.

Thing is, people also don't want to hear that they're brainwashed, so they won't listen to this, even if it's a thousand percent true. And it is, as far as I'm concerned. I don't know what else to call it, though--I absolutely and completely agree with Dore on this, but there has to be another way to convey it. I'm only saying this because every single time I try to convey this same sentiment, using the word "brainwashed", I get a shit-ton of grief from people I care about who are--indeed--brainwashed as hell. That wash runs deep, too. It is beyond frustrating!

We've been inundated with a wall of propaganda, psy-ops, photo ops, body doubles, Oprah, Republicans, truth suppression, surrogates, celebrities, former and current politicians of every stripe, unions, the MSM, Obama, staged debates, smears, oh I could go on forever. And let's not forget the fear tactics (Trump=Hitler, Satan, Rapist, Putin Lover) which target voter lizard brains. For the last month I've been attacked by acquaintances every time I say "I'm voting for Jill Stein" when they declare "I'm with Her". When I say "I'll vote Trump if the contest is close", they go berserk. Last night, someone at my table stated "I like Bill Clinton; he gave us a strong economy." That said, of course those who willingly go along with this shit are, in my view BOTH victims and accomplices. They are victims of a mind-fuck, known in more polite circles as a psy-op; and they are accomplices because no matter what the reason, they have consented to go along with this nightmare.

Both of our major third parties, the Greens, and the Libertarians are sectarian parties, and neither of their candidates take the office of president seriously.

The Greens pussy foot around important issues because they don't want to upset the herb and anti-vax loons, and the Libertarians are so hyper concerned with economic issues that the entirety of the rest of their intellectual ideology is tossed aside.

Neither has researched how'd they would implement their policy(in a legal and constitutional fashion) in the event they won, Granted the Greens are better on this then the libertarians, They however still have several blanks in their platform policy goals that read like the underpants gnomes business plan.

When these things are pointed out, neither makes any efforts to correct their stated means for doing what they want.

For example, Jill wants to forgive student debt, she plans to direct the US Treasury to quantitatively ease it away, which for one, the president doesn't have that power, Granted a chunk of the debt is held by the federal government, all of the subsidized loans anyway, granted their is held by a corporation controled by the Federal government on behalf of the federal government(i don't think they are traded by i could be wrong on that, and that would complicate things further). All of the debt that isn't subsidized and held by private third parties is out of her reach without legislation.

Neither care about foreign policy, Jill would tear up NAFTA, TPP,TPIP, and friends at the very least, and pull out of the middle east shit show, but outside that is either giant question marks, or to much all at once.

I think John Oliver's bit went to far, but I certainly can see how he came to that, (I mean other then the fact that his network is in the bag for her majesty).

The campaign's full response to Oliver is here.

When Oliver’s fact-checkers asked if canceling student debt via quantitative easing was the campaign’s current position, we replied that we are considering a range of options in consultation with our economic advisors. Regardless, Oliver singled out canceling student debt via the Federal Reserve, implying both that this was our only option and that it would be technically impossible. In reality, experts say that it is technically possible, even if politically difficult, for the Fed to play a role in student debt forgiveness. And Oliver simply ignored the fact that we had other proposals to cancel student debt on the table. Coming from someone who made a stunt of buying and canceling medical debt on his show, and who claims to want alternatives to the failed two-party system, this disingenuous attack on the idea of cancelling student debt is both puzzling and hypocritical.

Moreover, John Oliver did a lot of collateral damage per an email I got yesterday:

But here's the problem: his program is watched by a lot of people and the day after his show, our unsolicited web contributions dropped by 60%, from an average of $7,000 - $10,000 a day to about $3,000 a day.

I agree with your comments about some of the fringe constituents. Dropping them would be healthy, and if they won't then another party it is. But be aware that you can get smacked badly by pseudo-journalists like Oliver if you get too threatening.

Apparently there are two, maybe three, Fed Governor positions that will open up in the next term (I heard this on NPR, but I can't find the story now). These appointments gives the President a certain amount of leverage over the Fed, which is an important part of the dance the Fed goes through to maintain its "independence".

Ironically, this "independence" can also be described as "undemocratic". In other words, the Fed regularly does exactly what Oliver claims the system is set up to prevent i.e. allowing a small cabal to control the money supply. For more on the Fed's political landscape, see William Greider's Secrets of the Temple.

I don't point out John Oliver purely for his own piece, which while the bit was a terrible intellectually dishonest train wreck. Does show a general perception about the Greens, He was only able to get away with that bit, because from the outside perspective it makes sense, The Greens messaging for years has been a train wreck, its not something they can shake so easily.

Any pre-existing party will have a pile of baggage that is hard to get ride of, and any new party will with time develop its own baggage.

To complete with the Democrats and Republicans, a new party would have to be more serious then them. The candidate for president for example, would need to have staff that monitor the situation for each part of the country and give daily briefings, policy proposals have to have been well vented with means that are clearly legal and constitutional in addition to being practical. They need to push races other then the presidency in a visible manner, the presidential Candidate needs to be seen with house/senate candidates daily, getting other peoples names out their is EXTREMELY important. A third party will get very little mainstream media attention, so the party needs to develop alternative means for getting the word out(I suggest examining Bernies primary campaign), a youtube channel with atleast moderate production quality that posts content on a consistent schedule for example, Hell buy time on TV typically used by those infomercials to sell chop-its and knives. As often as possible have in each State a committee that looks for candidates for all levels and races, A party organization with professional staff to help the party maintain gains from year to year, by maintaining voter databases, and more importantly develop institutional knowledge so that new candidates are not starting from scratch. and more, and more,

The Greens are to sectarian to develop all that is required above, we need a leftist party with a wide coalition of ideals.

Your half reading my posts, Until the Green party learns to message better hit pieces like the one john oliver did will be both easy todo, believable, and common.

His hit piece is a symptom of a problem, and not the problem itself. The current Green party position of confronting issues like this after the fact is why they lose. The lack of messaging up to the point of that hit piece is what created it, If Mr. Oliver hadn't done it someone else would have, their will ALWAYS be that someone who takes advantage of the voids and gaps that are left unfilled.

The current solution of bitching about it after the fact doesn't repair the damage or solve the problem in future.

Look if you can't handle a bit of criticism held against your party and choose to ignore half the content of a post to argue points taken out of context that is fine, But don't expect anyone to be more apt to take you or your party seriously.

In US politics, their is no difference except for the one the party or person defines themselves, in the absence of clear definition people will make shit up. THIS WILL ALWAYS BE TRUE.

What John Oliver did was equal to the Obama care death panels the ruubs invented, without clear and loud messaging anyone can and will make shit up, and politically it will all be true, regardless of what is real.

The Greens have no media presents, nor will they be given the opportunity for one, so they have to make their own, THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT.

The Greens have no media presents, nor will they be given the opportunity for one,

Look, this is not about anyone being upset by criticism, because the criticism is mindless. This "criticism" of yours consists of little more than empty smears by association, where you assert authority by setting the parameters of what is "acceptable" as a "media present"--which what I think you mean to say is "presence"--for the Green Party to get their message out. And of course, your preference would be youtube. AYFKM? You appear to be complaining about their alleged inability to do "messaging" because....because why? Because words on a page aren't enough? I was thinking more along these lines rather than the old psychology definition which is now considered offensive:

One deficient in judgment and good sense:
ass, fool, idiot, imbecile, jackass, mooncalf, nincompoop, ninny, nitwit, simple, simpleton, softhead, tomfool.

moron. (n.d.) American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fifth Edition. (2011). Retrieved October 22 2016 from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/moron

Similarly:

Informal. a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment:
I wonder why they elected that narrow-minded moron to Congress.

Cunning also works. However, it misses the gist of the quote as we pretty much accept and expect politicians to be cunning. The current load of them goes way beyond mere cunning.

So the only ways for left and progressive activists to waste their votes is to stay home, or to give them to Hillary. The only place where your vote matters this year is with the Green Party.

Yup, and if everyone voted for Jill who personally preferred the notion of democracy and the survival of life on the planet (as would be possible with President Jill) to the appallingly high risk of either the immediate likelihood of the speedy and greedily gratuitous nuclear planetary obliteration of oxygen-breathing/cycling life by a would-be totalitarian and casually murderous global corporate/military regime or of that global corporate/military regime maximizing profits under corporate off-shored law for The Right People and incidentally destroying life/oxygen production on the planet within a few decades, she'd certainly win on votes.

Also please consider this; it'll be easier for TPTB to plausibly cheat Hillary in if there's no massive landslide for Jill because people are too busy voting for one or another TPP-supporting Evil, supporting that, for example, banksters/Wall St. biggies will be laughing all the way to their entirely unregulated banks/financial markets to accumulate by hook for crooks all of the data-dots symbolizing wealth from the rest of the world with there being no recourse for the freely industrially-polluted/poisoned and utterly-controlled-by-offshored-corporate-'law' people of the world. Sometimes compatriots like these have no idea places like here exist. Simply tweeting a story directly to them will get a response. I haven't been all that active on Twitter lately, really just go in spurts, but it is a great way to get in touch with allies who could help spread the word.

For example, a couple of years ago a coupe of years ago I wrote up a piece about the media's coverup of the amazing story of a young man who went to DC to commit suicide and according to witnesses had a "Tax the 1%" sign with him. Called it "Tax the 1%": Political Statements by Suicide in DC Shall Not Go Down the Memory Hole." It kind of went viral, picked up by some progressive sites and generated a lot of comments and discussion.

I tweeted the link directly to Thom Hartmann. The next night while watching him I had a surreal moment of fulfillment when he not only mentioned by TOP moniker on the air, but he read some from the piece.

My point is that these guys are news hounds and are always looking for stuff.

Anybody who's active on Twitter should keep this in mind.

When there's a really good timely piece we should tweet directly at these guys.
