Important Announcement - Embedded Videos
It was recently brought to my attention by several members that the text editor was malfunctioning and at times would eat partial essays they were preparing. I wasn't able to diagnose the problem until I was able to reproduce it, which happened to me recently as I lost an essay and had to redo it.
I've spent the last couple of days hunting down the bug and finally came to the conclusion that it is being caused by a video filter in the video icon above the text editor. I have since disabled that function and because of that using the video icon no longer works. That's the bad news. The good news is that the same thing can be accomplished by using the video field titled "Video URL" below the text editor. Simply enter the video URL into the box and it will display just like the video icon did. Or you can use the share feature that's included with almost all video formats across the web to embed your videos. See the FAQs for further help for embedding video.
Sometime this morning I will remove the video icon above the text editor until I can get it working correctly.
I'm fairly certain the video filter was causing the problem, but if anyone has any loss of text in the text editor again, please let me know. Or any other problem as far as that goes.
Sorry about any inconvenience but the problem is easily worked around by using the "Video URL" function below the text editor. Redundancy is a good thing sometimes.
Thanks folks.

Good morning Free Rangers...
software glitches do happen and can happen at any web site.
I highly recommend that you write your work into a text editor like notepad or something similar. That way your work can be easily retrievable if something wayward happens.
Notepad (the program that comes with Windows) will skew the text format when you copy/paste into, because of that I use Notepad++. It is free and a very good text editor that will not skew the text format when copy and pasting.
There are many free text editors that can be used, Notepad++ just happens to be my personal favorite.
thanks for sorting this out JtC
like the sun, moon and stars - it's all over my head
Ditto
I even looked at the instructions and I’m lost. I don’t know what the text editor is.
Hey JtC can you dumb it down for me?
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Quelle disappointment! All this time I had assumed that you
used emacs.

Teco, baybee-
once you know that, you never need another editor…
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
emacs
Speak not of such things, for it frighteneth me! 'Tis ill luck to speak of such things!
At least we're not invoking vi. Or TECO.

And yet you speak openly of vi? EDLIN!!

vi(le)
Indeed, vi can be rather vile at times......

"All power corrupts absolutely!" -- thanatokephaloides
know not of whence you speak
because I'm a Mac man, notepad+++ does not work far me
stick to open office in times of trouble mother mary
a real hassle to insert into drafts envelope
almost scared now to cobble together the next OT
deep breath, in spite of the odds, persevere
of what I speak
Is that anything like a Pac-Man?? (ducking)
Seriously, the programs we named run on UNIX/Linux and their predecessors. TECO ran on DEC PDP systems in the late 1970s and early 1980s. You've probably got vi on the Darwin side of your OSX Macs.
And yes, vi can be rather vile at times......

Using open office do you insert your html tags yourself,
or paste plain text and then do any bold and such with the tools built into the c99 editor? Just curious. (I use none of the above)

open office allows text, URL's not so much
just tried to cobble the next OT, lost all work.
tried to send a pic to LO's WW, which worked.
kinda buggy, will just try to post the banner going forward
lost this reply also, second try
that aspect works for now, but the drafts option seems Kaput
maybe you can figure it out?
thanks
Hola QMS - I almost always grab pics from flickr,
and use their embed code to just paste them where I wan't them. Even it it is one of my pics, I load it into my flickr account first so I can use their code. Same with YouTubes - I just use the embed code. Generally, that aspect of things doesn't give me any grief.
I don't use open office for my columns because it can/will interpret URLs and HTML tags. I use a plain vanilla text editor (sort of). I don't know if the Mac has one, but somebody must've written one for it, if only for writing scripts and programs. I insert my own html tags inline and then just paste the whole thing into the c99 editor, but I have, at times just pasted the plain text and then used the c99 editor to do all that formatting like bold and italics, etc.
I just checked and there are free editors out there for mac including one that is built in. The build in defaults to rtf but you can change that to text in settings.
good luck

Thanks for all the tech work!
Hope you're not having to spend too much time working on it.
Thanks for the community!

Even I remember vi. 1996 it was, my first
attempts to work with Linux. Oh gosh, I am really, really old now. Do you follow what Biden does in Ukraine?
My guts tell me something bad is happening.
Who cares? I will be dead by the time it is happenimg.
Have a good day, all.
