I believe that's a serious misinterpretation of how the Political system works

Is what Noam Chomsky says to Charlie Rose in this great 2003 interview.

I took a break from spotify and listened to this among other things while coding away at work today. His points are well worth noting in this election. Exactly of course what Bernie has been pointing out. And I imagine a large part of why we are here.

Have a listen and/or watch. The whole interview is great if you have time.

The particular portion I'm referring to starts around 35:52 and ends around 39:20.

What a great mind Chomsky has!

If you want to change something in this country it must begin at ground level. There are two small but significant changes that have occurred in the last few years.

The bigger of the two is same sex marriage. It began as a movement by the time the supreme court got its hands on it several states had already passed laws in favor of this. This was in direct defiance defense of marriage act. The Supreme Court came to the logical conclusion that everyone else had known for years that people were being treated unequally. By that time 61% of the population backed them.

The other one is ongoing, legal marijuana. My state was one of the first to pass medical marijuana, now 23 states have some version. We passed totally legal with the state of Colorado and now there are five legal states. There has been some push back From our state government but 61% passage limits their actions to whining the DE might per walk them.

The way forward is to grow a grass roots popular political movement. Colorado just told Hillary what they thought of her. Expect Washington, Oregon and Alaska to do the same. It may not help Bernie but it gives an idea of what states are ripe to lead the charge. I am fairly sure this mean little state is looking forward to it.

It's true right now like it was back then. The old devils are at it again. When I say devil you know who I mean these animals in the dark malicious politicians with nefarious schemes charlatans and crooked cops. - 'Old Devils' William Elliot Whitmore

Interesting segment at 43:30 to 45:30 where Chomsky asserts that the rise of "free trade" agreements are designed as a counter to the rise of democracy around the world.

Yep. In debt countries with so many strings attached. Privatize resources for debt relief, then next thing you know its illegal to collect rainwater. However in the case of Bolivia, a power movement for change formed, and the people said enough is enough.

It's come to my attention that politicians don't really care if I march in a street. They don't care if I write them letters, send them emails, or telephone them. They don't even care if I send them money since they get so much more from lobbyists. The one thing I have that they care about is my vote. In the 2016 general that vote is going to Bernie or, failing that, Jill Stein.

I refuse to cast votes against my own self-interest any more. I refuse to enable their corruption.

A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.
