Hey! Just a thought here, but ...
I've been busy with recent personal issues, house and yard and my weekly vapid but hopefully entertaining OTs and thereby missed a bunch of major sturm und drang. Being curious I looked superficially into it and came up with dozens of great ideas for essays. I chose, however, to write this instead.
First, some basics:
What the hell is this place, anyway? It is a blog, a website, a community, a collection of authors and essays, commenters and comments, and music.
So, requirements for essays, comments, and content of all types are:
Meaningful content - only if you see fit; eye of the beholder problem
Political - only in the sense that everything may be held to be a political act
Political party preference - none
Ideological preference - none
Cultural milieu - are you fucking kidding me?
Viewpoint - only if you see fit
Dada - as needed
Stream of consciousness - if you wish
Grammar - optional
Snark - permitted
Dirty words - are you fucking kidding me?
Normalcy - ERROR, undefined term
Viciousness - not allowed
Personal attacks - ditto
OK - the point of this is ---
Writing is time consuming. yet everybody wants to see more. Meaningful content, whatever that may be requires even more work and time. So, um, whyncha write something, eh?
We need authors. You don't need permission, write and post, that's all there really is to it. For those needing more structure, here are the site's requirements to author something.
Ideal Author is
Sentient Life Form (SLF)
(Posting transcribed Automatic Writing, while allowed, is likely to be mocked by the empiricists among us)
Somewhere on the Ordinary to Outre' scale (we're actually chronically short on the outre')
Ready and willing to be disagreed with

Gee EL
I always thought there were a bunch of monkeys with typewriters in the back room.
Everything I post here has that feel.
I want a Pony!
Good morning, Arrow, good to see ya. How's the health?
The monkeys want scale, and hence only can work part time under the current budget. The rate at which they generate normal seeming works is ergo even more abyssmally slow. If we need to we'll just publish anything they produce, hence the reference to Dada as being acceptable.

I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Sounds like an idea for a book, "Of Mice and Monkeys".

It's crunch time for
Primaries across the
fruited plain, so content might not be as plentiful.
And, while I think Dylan Ratigan is the better choice to run against Repub "Beltway Elise" Stefanik up here in NY-21, I'm out trying to push the Berniecrat across the finish line. With five Dims in the race the vote is going to be split somewhat equally, with the winner likely to win by just one or two hundred votes, so... all camps are out shaking the bushes, elbowing each other on the way to the next porch. Never seen anything like it, and hopefully translates to votes!
"All of the above," of course, is the answer to your question. It is what one makes of it.
I rarely come across anything newsworthy that isn't already posted here, so...
pretty much stick to comments. And whether read or commented upon I don't much care, just here to read what's what and bang on a keyboard.

Hey, thanks for reading and banking the old keyboard, heh.

Great advice EL
Outré is good. I’m all for it. Watch out! LOL.
I appreciate the push. The idea that I can just publish, you know, whatever, without a lot of work and attempt at some depth or relevance, is ... outré to me. Probably comes from 30+ years working in the publishing field, from my first job as a book seller to being a “content developer” (that was actually my job title) as a tech writer, editor, and other niche roles in publishing (books, on actual paper).
I seriously felt I had to look up how to place the accent mark correctly on that word just now. Sick! And, worse, I know accent mark isn’t even the right word. I should look that up too. But no, I’m letting that one go.
This way of publishing is certainly a different animal. Which is fine. Expanding horizons and all that.
Thanks for this. It helps.
Thanks, CS, glad you got something out of it. As for

Unicode characters
You can save yourself at least some of that time by going straight to Wikipedia's listing of Unicode characters, which you can find here. No ads, no stems, no seeds like you don't need!
"US govt/military = bad. Russian govt/military = bad. Any politician wanting power = bad. Anyone wielding power = bad." --Shahryar

I still have to track them down and copypasta, the
good old control+number thing doesn't work on this setup, and the html doesn't either Ñ

Isn't it the message that matters?
And would the site really be better for going all conformist and formal, with essayists fretting over correct punctuation while home burns, so to speak??
Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.
A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
"What the hell is this place, anyway? "
I have the same problem. I don' know how to describe this "place" to those around me who want to know what I'm doing punching away on my smartPHONE alternately cussin' and laughing hysterically.
I've taken to simply saying "I talkin' to my friends".
Works pretty good.
Thanks for the prompt to do more essays. I think I will try Steven D's recent suggestion to write about things you really care about, as you tend to write more.
Good weekend to all.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Thanks for reading, earthling1, and a happy weekend to you too.

Do we get editors?
My writing has fallen apart, it is a wonder anyone can even understand me.

I am constantly self editing
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

A common problem, happens to me constantly. Ah well.

Like text editors? Depends on your software, don't it?
