Happy Funkin' New Year

You're not old. You're chronologically gifted.
The doctor is in, funk it!
How about that shut down funkin' thingie?
I usually eschew New Year's Eve festivities, this year being the exception. Thing1 is taking me out to watch the alma mater play football this afternoon, with beer and bar food. A friend's dad band is playing a local brew pub this evening, so I guess I will partake in amateur night.
Happy New Year!

Funkin' Eh

If we're not aging, why must I always get new calendars?
Have fun! Beware the dopes.
question everything
I have been having trouble with the date, and day of the week
Did you hear the pulse dialing? Old school.

clicking receivers
Ye olde wooden box on the wall with a saddle for the speaker horn, and a trumpet to speak into, get Doris at the switchboard to stop chatting with Betty long enough to get a clear line by clicking the hear horn holder. If you are good people and you treat her nice, she'll put you thru. Way old school.

why must I always get new calendars?
The hobbit calendar has 13 (triskaidekaphobia alert) months of 28 days, or exactly 4 weeks of 7 days. 13 times 28 is 364. Almost there.
The hobbits celebrate Summer Solstice as a holiday, in our culture we might use Christmas instead.
The day before Christmas is Tuesday, the day after Christmas is Wednesday. What day of the week is Christmas? It isn't a weekday, it's Christmas! That's the thing that makes it work. The same thing happens with Leap Day. What day of the week is Leap Day? It's not a weekday, it's Leap Day.
Every month starts on the same week day. Every Saturday is the same numerical day of the month. Your birthday is always the same day of the week.
You don't need new calendars every year, there is One Calendar to Rule Them All.
I blame the corrupt calendar lobby for shackling us to this primitive system that forces us to buy their overpriced products.

"A species that is hurtling toward extinction has no business promoting slow incremental change." -- Caitlin Johnstone
Brilliant
Takes all the stupid out of calendars in one stroke!
question everything
People have tried to change the calendar
but the last person to succeed was Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, and he only got away with it because it was necessary to realign the calendar with the date of Easter (which was running 10 days late on average). And that was just tinkering around the edges of the existing system.
13 is such an awkward number that it is unlikely any of the 13-month calendar schemes will ever be widely adopted. Even the Hobbit calendar has 12 months, not 13 (of 30, not 28, days), and achieves regularity by leaving five days, not one, out of the reckoning - two at year's end and three (or four in leap years) at midsummer. The only day that never begins a month is Friday, hence the Hobbit saying "Friday the first", roughly equivalent to our "12th of Never".
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Hey Tim, make it funky...

I’m sure things have taken on a different kind of ‘relative’
for you since loosing Sue. The song you posted is so full of love and longing.
May you continue to build your future with the strength of your past and your love of Sue and of life.
