Happy 100th Birthday, Jimmy

open thread_137.jpg
Jimmy Carter turns 100 today.
A hundred years of caring, sharing, and helping the poorer among us to have a life.
Unlike all other Presidents who holed up in their compounds, ranches, or penthouses after their stint in the White House, Jimmy continued to serve people all over the globe.
If he wasn't building houses for the poor or monitoring elections in countries around the world he was negotiating the release of political prisoners in foreign countries.
Through all the faults of his four year Presidency, nothing obscures the good this man has done in a century of service to humankind.
Happy Birthday, President Jimmy Carter.

birthday as well. He, however, didn't make it this far.

We're prepping for a mini road trip, 9 days without getting N or E of Topaz Lake NV, or much south of Santa Maria. Half of the time we'll be in or along the Eastern Sierras and half the time along the coast. Weather and temps will be all over the map and some of the time will be in VRBO type places meaning we need to take food and we're taking the car instead of the truck, so packing is really a conundrum.

Very hot here yestereday, today and perhaps longer, as in 100 or so. Slowly pruning apricot, then grapes will follow.

The world continues sick, mad and crazy, especially the empire/hegemon.

be well and have a good one

Sounds like fun.
We are going to finish up our garden harvesting and put it to bed (pardon the pun) for the winter. And then think about taking off for a few weeks going south.
I'm thinking Morro Bay. Been awhile since we've been there.
A lot depends on the weather, increasingly more difficult to predict. We are supposed to have El Nino conditions this year.
Thanks for stopping by.

75th Anniversary. It's also Armed Forces day in South Korea, 76th anniversary.

Is this what people watch on regular US tv programming?

"Brace for impact!"

In the drama I don't know what the background is for the US to have three warships in the Taiwan strait at the same time. As I understand the A2/AD military strategy as described in publicly available US Navy related publications, this situation concentrating forces close to China is understood to be quite risky and normally is to be avoided. Of course, I don't know what the outcome is in the drama. Does the drama have Chinese subtitles?

Earthling1, I'm still absorbed in the The Korean War: A Civilian's Recollection video from the link you posted. It's very interesting. I knew a couple of South Koreans who went through this experience on the other side of the front in Seoul. I never got to hear a detailed read out of the refugee experience such as portrayed in this video.

This Arirang video of Armed Forces Day events in South Korea looks and sounds like a KCNA broadcast from North Korea. The Washington Times noted the similarity. It's no coincidence. South Korea is returning to its authoritarian posture during the dictatorships. A recent editorial in the Hankyoreh pointed out that Yoon doesn't have the authority under the conditions of the US-South Korea alliance to respond during wartime. OPCON of all ROK military forces comes under US control in wartime.

He rescued all of them, kept 3 and found homes for the others.

Iran showed that it has missiles that Israel couldn’t stop and instead of Israel backing off it doubled down.
I saw a few tweets of Israelis thinking that they are once again the fcking victim. No you’re not.

Theoretically, that is.
Iran fired missiles into Tel Aviv. Now what will Israel tell us to do?
