Gulf nations losing patience with stalemate in Yemen

Although most Americans are ignorant of the war crime that is the Saudi-led invasion of Yemen, most everyone here is aware of the awful details.
The unprovoked war has already killed more than 10,000 and displaced millions, caused a massive famine and a cholera epidemic with around 500,000 cases.

Despite the destruction that the Gulf nations have rained down upon the Yemeni people, their armies have largely failed to advance into northern Yemen. The frontlines have been mostly static for around a year. Meanwhile, the Gulf nation spend billions for a war they aren't winning.

Newly-leaked emails written by two former top US officials show that Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and defence minister Mohammed bin Salman “wants out” of the war he started in Yemen, it is alleged.
Email correspondence from April of this year between Martin Indyk, the former US ambassador to Israel and Yousef Otaiba, the UAE's ambassador to the US, was obtained by Middle East Eye, in which the two discussed their dealings with Prince bin Salman.
Mr Indyk called the Saudi prince a “pragmatist leader” and said that he had been “clear” in meetings with himself and former national security advisor Stephen Hadley that he “wants out of Yemen” and is “OK with the US engaging with Iran,” Saudi Arabia’s regional rival, despite his publicly aggressive stance on both the Yemeni crisis and Tehran.

The lack of progress and the immense costs are bad enough, but what seems to be the deal-breaker for the Saudis is divisions with its primary ally - UAE.
UAE entered the war to fight the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Al-Islah Party, not the Houthi militant group. This divergence of objectives has led to difficulties for the Saudi-puppet government in Aden.

Yemen's Central Bank says the Saudi-led coalition is "strangling" the economy by preventing planes from flying in newly-minted cash, reflecting a struggle between the government and the United Arab Emirates, key members of the military alliance.
Both are at war with the Shiite Houthi rebels, who control much of northern Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa. But the UAE is believed to be at odds with President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi over his embrace of a local affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood group, and fighters loyal to the two sides have clashed in recent months.
...In the central city of Taiz, fighters allied with the Emirates have battled others aligned with Hadi's government despite the city being besieged by the Houthis for the past two years.

If nothing changes, this war still has years to play out with Saudi victory very uncertain and expensive, and divisions growing with its allies.
It's beginning to look like the Saudi-coalition cannot win this war without the complete destruction of Yemen with genocidal tactics, and that might be a bit too much even for the Saudis.

The government of Saudi Arabia has sought the help of Iraq's prime minister to mend relations between Riyadh and Tehran, according to news reports

.

Separately, Muqtada al-Sadr, the influential Iraqi Shia leader, announced on his website that he would be visiting the UAE on Sunday.

Considering

The visits by the Iraqis come as the Arab Gulf region remains embroiled in its worst crisis in years - a dispute between Qatar and a Saudi-led bloc comprising the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt.

Speaking to Al Jazeera on Sunday, Saad Jawad, a political science professor at the London School of Economics, termed the Saudi-Iraqi diplomatic moves "odd".

When read together with your story

Saudi Arabia's crown prince has told two former American officials that he "wants out" of the two-year war he started in Yemen, and that he is not against US rapprochement with Iran, according to leaked emails published by Middle East Eye.

What with

The conversation took place at least one month before Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar, accusing it of trying to undermine their war in Yemen and for having friendly relations with Iran.

It is quite frankly un bordel.

Some Saudi News:

Driving from Houston to Santa Fe, NM have been stunned at how low prices are at the pump. Of course legal subsidies make the real price much more.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

Big Al's picture

with Saudi Arabia playing the proxy, much like ISIS and Al Qaeda play the proxies in Libya and Syria. Some might label it a U.S./Saudi led war, with Israel riding shotgun as usual.

"The US is not just some sleeping partner in the Saudi coalition, or in the ongoing war to reinstall the illegitimate Saudi-supported exile ‘government’ of Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. Indeed, given the overwhelming US military presence in Yemen’s region, including the centre for East African operations in Djibouti, we might conclude that this is really just another US coalition – operating under the Saudi ‘flag of convenience’. Not only are the Saudi planes supplied and presumably maintained by the US, but all the missiles and bombs – cluster bombs and bunker busters and who knows what else – have been supplied by the US, and even re-supplied during the course of the war on Yemen. In addition to that is the ‘assistance with targeting’ provided by US and UK personnel both on the ground in the Saudi peninsula and through multiple surveillance platforms.

This interdependency between the US and the Saudis can hardly be concealed, yet its true nature cannot be admitted. Even more taboo is the evident close cooperation between the Saudis and Israel, who have recently found shared interests in Syria and a common enemy in Iran."
