Friday Photography - Lunar Eclipse

I followed the eclipse for three hours. Here are some photos of its progression, from the beginning with heavy cloud cover, until a crescent in clear skies.

Enjoy …

Have a wonderful weekend all.

photo-history of the eclipse. I've become jaded enough over time and after seeing a great many lunar (& solar) eclipses that I'm not about to get up at really unpleasant hours to see another one, ergo I missed it.

I took no pics of anything this week, but continued to sort some from earlier in the year with my old camera, specifically from the desert. There are places (Yaqui Pass, Yaqui Well, etc.) that we visit almost every year, and certain shots that I take almost every year of favorite views or subjects.

Quite a contrast to your serene and gorgeous scene, however

This is one of my favorite types of shot and or subject:

@enhydra lutris Awesome shots EL! I miss the desert. The dead trees I can't tell for sure but the weeping aspect is very much like Palo Verde or Smoketree, both big in the washes. Is the thorned stem an Ocotillo branch? Final answer for all the dough. Wink The Roadrunner is great, expecially running. At the Rio Grande Village camp in Big Bend they come into the camps for scraps! I have pics somewhere. Neat bird for a ground cuckoo. Totally dino. Great pics, thanks!

in that particular wash. My guess is palo verde, desert willow or desert ironwood, though there is some mesquite here and there too. That's from San Felipe Wash, not too far north of Yaqui Pass near Yaqui Well.

Branch is wait-a-minute -- cat's claw, I realized I never took any pictures of one, so I made it a point to take a few this trip.

Roadrunner was down in low gear at that point, must've spotted something.

I especially enjoyed the roadrunner you caught running down centre aisle of the road! The plant looks like a flax?

At 4am. It was totally clouded over here, but I could tell that the clouds were darker than they would have been if the moon hadn't been shaded, heh.

Thank your for the pictures, Janis!

I'm sorry you weren't rewarded for getting up so early to view the eclipse, but just acknowledging and sensing the event is something special.

I felt very lucky to have experienced it the way it was here, and that the timing was reasonable -9pm-1am, the full eclipse at 11pm.

Thank you for coming by.

Outstanding eclipse photos Janis! Fantastic! You did great! Very cool. I'd be proud of those. They only look easy to shoot, big stationary target, but it is not easy. Thanks!

The fullness and brightness of the moon made it quite easy to photograph.

@dystopian We have several species (?) here in central France but have not been able to capture them yet. They are beautiful, love to hang out near our little river. Sometimes they land in a sun spot under deep shade: so gorgeous.

Thank you so much.
