Friday Night Photos Bakers Dozen Edition
Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
This month's camera club outing on Tuesday was to the Gaslamp Quarter and surrounding areas including the San Diego marina, convention center, and Petco Park where the San Diego Padres play their baseball games.
Now here's something you don't see ever day. A British phone booth in a Mexican restaurant.

I'm still working on this "selfie" thing
With a little luck the Padres will be playing in the World Series here this year

Saves on airfare!
Lived there once, but
pretty much stuck to
Ocean Beach and La Jolla.
Zionism is a social disease
Hi, Q
Even if I could fly for free, with all the problems airplanes are having these days, you couldn't get me on a plane.
There are a lot worse places you could hang out than O.B. and La Jolla.

I worked with pilots for five years
...as mere ute. I witnessed ten class Alpha accidents, that is total loss accidents, of military aircraft one way or another. I worked day in and day out with the pilots while they risked their lives, in peace time mind you. I'd be talking to a pilot and a hour or so later, gone. Two friends killed in separate accidents, two others almost killed while I watched the fantastic scenes, I couldn't have imagined except in a old war movie. Six people killed in one event, a midair, that I hadn't gotten to know yet. I saw one of them in the ocean before he drowned as the ship passed him. He was waving to us. Saw a huge explosion on the deck when a heavy reconnaissance bird slammed into the deck as the signal officer kept screaming wave off, wave off...2 dead. I could go on about these stories and more. Two friends I made much later, to whom I will ever be grateful had the patience to listen to my stories...I will never forget.
Subsequently, I had a bad experience in an airliner once, "turbulence." I had another bad experience in a bug smasher as a passenger, when it got caught in a downdraft, and I hit the ceiling, literally. I thought the plane was in a stall but the pilot recovered it. I haven't flown in over twenty years.
Oh well.
Really great looking city SP, thanks for sharing. Only visited there once for a conference, had to fly, of course. I had a bad experience on the flight, on the way there, which I won't describe. After the trip back home, which was uneventful, I never flew anywhere again.

Hi, soryang
During my 4 years in the Navy I was stationed onboard an aircraft carrier. Made 3 west pac cruise's. In that time we lost 2 planes. One A-6 and crew and one F-18. The pilot was able to punch out and was retrieved.

Well SP then you know
...Glad to know a "shipmate" here. Really. Thanks for your wonderful photos!
A Navy tale begins with "No shit..." You have more at sea time than I. The ship went into the yards for a year, luckily. We lost a couple of pilots and planes ashore as well, on reftra etc.

Hey, SP!
ice town ya got there.
Flying...Been there, done that. No more boarding a plane for me. I was always willing to risk dying to see the world, but now, wings falling off, landing gear falling off, pilot on fentanyl, I will satisfy myself that the 76 countries I saw were all I was supposed to see, as determined by someone in control of my movement.
On the very first overseas tour I ever took, some used car salesman on the tour bus bitched he he could find better photos of Paris, London and Rome, online than he could ever take. He was from Texas. Figures.
Thanks for the photos on this lively Friday night that finds us alive and well!

Hi, otc
Next month I'm going to Las Vegas for my niece's wedding. It's 5 1/2 hours to drive or 50 mins to fly. I'll be driving.

No sheet, mahn!
Drive carefully, and a 5 1/2 hr drive is ok to be extended an hour for rest stops. Big name truck stops are a good place to refuel and to find decent food. We like Love's, but there are equivalents. Can't think of the names at the moment, but the big ones have fresh deli sandwiches, fruit, salads, so there is that. Funny how they take care of truckers, thinking of their health. When 18-wheeler drivers are ok, we are ok! Enjoy the ceremony, friend!
