Poor Uncle Sugar, blinded by those wily Ukrainians ...

U.S. Lacks a Clear Picture of Ukraine’s War Strategy, Officials Say

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has provided near-daily updates of Russia’s invasion on social media; viral video posts have shown the effectiveness of Western weapons in the hands of Ukrainian forces; and the Pentagon has regularly held briefings on developments in the war.

But despite the flow of all this news to the public, American intelligence agencies have less information than they would like about Ukraine’s operations and possess a far better picture of Russia’s military, its planned operations and its successes and failures, according to current and former officials.

Governments often withhold information from the public for operational security. But these information gaps within the U.S. government could make it more difficult for the Biden administration to decide how to target military aid as it sends billions of dollars in weapons to Ukraine.

U.S. officials said the Ukrainian government gave them few classified briefings or details about their operational plans, and Ukrainian officials acknowledged that they did not tell the Americans everything.

Of course the U.S. intelligence community collects information about nearly every country, including Ukraine. But American spy agencies, in general, focus their collection efforts on adversarial governments, like Russia, not current friends, like Ukraine. And while Russia has been a top priority for American spies for 75 years, when it came to the Ukrainians, the United States has worked on building up their intelligence service, not spying on their government.

The result, former officials said, has been some blind spots.

The full piece is worth a read, but, Moon of Alabama has a pretty good take on what the above New York Times article really indicates:

Washington Starts Blame Game Over Defeat In Ukraine

I do not believe for one moment that U.S. intelligence services do not know what is going on in Ukraine and in Kiev. They know that the Ukraine has lost the war and will have to sue for peace as soon as possible.

They also have told the White House that this is a case and that the whole idea of setting up the Ukraine to tickle the Russian bear was idiotic from the get go. The question now is who will take the blame for the outcome. Who can the buck be passed to? ...

But what the NYT piece does is passing the buck from the intelligence community to president Zelensky of Ukraine: "He did not inform us about the bad position his country was in."

It is cover your ass time and Zelensky prominence in the 'west' makes it possible to blame him personally for the outcome of the war.

Russian Defense Minister Shoigu says land bridge complete, which may signal phase 3 Odessa

The Guardian has no difficulty showing its bias:

Britons sentenced to death after ‘show trial’ in Russian-occupied Ukraine

Two British men and a Moroccan national captured while fighting in the Ukrainian army in Mariupol have been sentenced to death by pro-Russia officials after a days-long process described as a “disgusting Soviet-era show trial”.

A court in Russian-controlled east Ukraine convicted 28-year-old Aiden Aslin, from Newark, 48-year-old Shaun Pinner, from Watford, and Saaudun Brahim on charges of “terrorism”. Observers said the process was intended to imitate the war crimes trials of Russian soldiers taking place in Kyiv.

Both Britons have said they were serving in the Ukrainian marines, making them active-duty soldiers who should be protected by the Geneva conventions on prisoners of war. However, Russian state media has portrayed them as mercenaries, and the court has convicted them on the charge of “being a mercenary”. ...

An official said that the men would have one month to appeal against their sentence and, if an appeal was accepted, they could receive a life or 25-year prison sentence instead of the death penalty.

Explosion at US natural gas plant raises risk of shortages in Europe

Freeport LNG, operator of one of the largest US export plants producing liquefied natural gas (LNG), will shut for at least three weeks after an explosion at its Texas Gulf coast facility, raising the risk of gas shortages in Europe.

The plant, which provides about 20% of US LNG processing, announced the shutdown late on Wednesday after appraising damage to the massive facility.

On Thursday, European gas prices rose by up to a fifth as traders feared lost US shipments would stress a market already struggling with reduced Russian supplies.

Google misdirects one in 10 searches for abortion to ‘pregnancy crisis centers’

One in 10 Google searches for abortion services in US “trigger states”, where the procedure is likely to become illegal if the US supreme court overturns Roe v Wade, are being misdirected to clinics known as “pregnancy crisis centers” that do not actually provide care, according to a new study. After a leak revealed the US supreme court is on the verge of overturning the landmark abortion rights law Roe v Wade, attention has turned to “trigger law” states that would ban abortion immediately if the decades-old decision is undone.

In more than a dozen such trigger-law states, researchers found, 11% of Google search results for “abortion clinic near me” and “abortion pill” led to “crisis pregnancy centers”, according to misinformation research non-profit Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH).

These clinics market themselves as healthcare providers but have a “shady, harmful agenda”, according to the reproductive health non-profit Planned Parenthood, offering no health services and aiming instead to dissuade people from having abortions. Such centers now outnumber real abortion clinics three to one, with approximately 2,600 operating in the US, according to a study by the Alliance, a coalition of state advocates for women’s rights and gender equality. ...

Researchers in the study used location-altering tools to study 13 trigger-law states including Wyoming, Utah, Texas, Tennessee and Missouri and found 37% of Google Maps searches led to fake clinics.

US infant formula shortage: doctors worry about babies’ development as crisis continues

A baby formula shortage sweeping the US that has trigged a political crisis for Joe Biden is continuing to distress parents, caregivers and medical professionals as they still find the vital product difficult to obtain.

Reports of the shortage troubling intensive care units for newborns, as well as creating a black market for the scarce product, are still proliferating across the US media despite a concerted effort at the highest levels of government to get a hold on the crisis.

Dr Stan Spinner, chief medical officer and vice-president of Texas Children’s Pediatrics and Texas Children’s Urgent Care, said pediatric practices are receiving phone calls from worried parents about where to find formula and which kinds are acceptable for their babies.

Spinner said not having the right formula can lead to developmental problems for babies, especially for those with special metabolic needs.

“Babies are not little people. Their nutritional needs are very different. If babies don’t get the right type of nutrition, as far as the proteins, the carbohydrates, all the various minerals, mixed in the right way, it can make babies very anemic. It can affect their kidneys. It can affect their heart, their metabolism. You don’t just simply give a young baby cow’s milk. It’s not a sufficient way of giving them their nutrition,” he said.

US justice department to investigate Louisiana State Police following 2019 death of Ronald Greene

The US Department of Justice has announced a federal civil rights investigation into the Louisiana State Police following a series of brutality cases and the fatal beating of a Black motorist, Ronald Greene, in 2019.

The sweeping investigation will examine whether the police force has engaged in a “pattern or practice” of excessive force and racial discrimination. It marks the first time in more than two decades America’s justice department has investigated a statewide law enforcement agency.

“Based on an extensive review of publicly available information provided to us, we find significant justification to open this investigation now,” said assistant attorney general Kristen Clarke at a press conference in Baton Rouge.

The justice department received information related to excessive force used against individuals suspected of minor traffic violations, those already handcuffed or not resisting, Clarke said.

“There are reports that officers target Black residents in their traffic enforcement practices and in use of force,” Clarke told reporters. “Some of the reports include disturbing information about the use of racial slurs and racially derogatory terms by LSP troopers.”

"Attempted Coup": First Public Jan. 6 Hearing Puts Trump at Center of Plan to Overturn 2020 Election

Michigan candidate for governor arrested for participating in Capitol riot

A Republican standing for governor of Michigan has been arrested by the FBI for disorderly and disruptive conduct related to his alleged involvement in the storming of the US Capitol building on 6 January 2021.

Ryan Kelley was arrested on Thursday morning while his house near Grand Rapids was searched by federal agents, the Detroit News reported. An indictment released by the US district court for Washington DC, which is handling most of the criminal cases arising out of the January 6 insurrection, charged Kelley with “disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds”.

Kelley, a real estate agent, is one of five Republican candidates remaining in Michigan’s primary gubernatorial race, which will be held in August. His arrest throws the contest into further disarray: five other Republican candidates have already been disqualified having been accused of submitting fraudulent petitions to get on to the ballot.

Video footage captured during the storming of the US Capitol on January 6 appears to show Kelley climbing the outer steps of the compound shouting: “Come on, let’s go! This is it! This is war baby!”

Make Manchin-Sinema Obstruction Central Target in Midterms, Sanders Tells Democrats

As Democrats scramble to craft their midterm strategy amid rising fears of a GOP takeover, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday implored the party's leadership to offer voters an honest assessment of the role Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema played in tanking the popular Build Back Better agenda—and make clear that a larger Democratic majority is necessary to push it over the finish line.

"Say to the American people: 'Look, we don't have the votes to do it right now. We have two corporate Democrats who are not going to be with us,'" Sanders (I-Vt.) said in an interview with Politico, warning that the increasingly authoritarian Republican Party stands "an excellent chance of gaining control of the House and quite possibly the Senate" if Democrats don't change direction.

"The leadership has got to go out and say we don't have the votes to pass anything significant right now. Sorry. You got 48 votes. And we need more to pass it," added the Vermont senator. "That should be the message of this campaign."

Democrats are clinging to slim majorities in both chambers, and the death of the party's flagship climate and social spending package at the hands of Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Sinema (D-Ariz.) has intensified concerns that Republicans are set to win big in November despite the unpopularity of the GOP's agenda, as laid out by National Republican Senatorial Committee chair Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.).

‘Fantastic giant tortoise’ species thought extinct for 100 years found alive

A rare Galápagos species, the “fantastic giant tortoise”, long thought extinct, has been officially identified for the first time in more than a century in what scientists called a “big deal” for the famed islands’ embattled biodiversity. The animal is the first Chelonoidis phantasticus to be seen since a male specimen was discovered by the explorer Rollo Beck during an expedition in 1906. The newcomer has been named Fernanda, after the Fernandina Island, a largely unexplored active volcano in the western Galápagos Archipelago that she calls home.

“Everything that we knew about this species said it was extinct,” said Stephen Gaughran, an ecology and evolutionary biology researcher at Princeton University and one of the lead authors of the study that announced the finding, published on Thursday in the journal Communications Biology. “So it’s a big deal for a species that we thought was extinct for a hundred years to suddenly appear here.”

When Fernanda was discovered in 2019, roaming inside a vegetation clump among the solidified lava of the islet, it gave hopes to researchers that the rare phantasticus species wasn’t extinct after all, but it took DNA testing to confirm their hope. Researchers at Princeton sequenced the genome of both the 1906 and the 2019 tortoise, matching them as members of the same species of fantastic giant tortoise, significantly genetically different from the other 13 species of tortoise found in the Galápagos.

All giant Galápagos tortoises are all listed on the IUCN Red List from vulnerable to critically endangered, with one species already extinct.

LNG Boom Could Add Over 90 Million Tons of Annual Emissions

A boom in U.S. liquefied natural gas exports driven by Russia's invasion of Ukraine could add a staggering 90 million tons or more of planet-heating greenhouse gases annually, a report published Thursday revealed.

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) publication—entitled Playing With Fire: The Climate Impact of the Rapid Growth of LNG—notes that the United States went from exporting no liquefied natural gas in 2015 to becoming one of the world's leading LNG exporters by 2021.

Now, with the Russian invasion causing "unprecedented supply disruptions" and driving fuel prices to record levels in much of the world, the paper says the U.S. is soon expected to lead the world in LNG export capacity.

The report notes that this gas export boom "will have a significant environmental impact," as 25 LNG construction or expansion projects in the U.S., including four new terminals being built in Texas and Louisiana, "could emit more than 90 million tons of greenhouse gases per year."

"That's almost as much climate-warming pollution as 18 million passenger vehicles running for a year—more than from all the cars and trucks in Florida or New York state," the paper says.

These potential greenhouse gas impacts "would only come from operating the LNG terminals themselves," the report notes. "They do not include emissions from drilling and hydraulic fracturing, or the eventual burning of gas in homes and businesses. If these upstream and downstream contributions are accounted for, the true climate footprint of LNG would be several times higher."

Arizona’s emergency services brace for temperatures above 110F as deaths mount

A dangerous heatwave is due to scorch large swaths of Arizona for the rest of the week, triggering the first extreme heat warning of the year as temperatures in Phoenix are forecast to top 113F (45C) on three consecutive days.

Day and nighttime temperatures are expected to reach 7F to 10F (4C to 6C) above normal for this time of the year, which could drive a surge in medical emergencies and deaths as people struggle to stay cool amid soaring energy prices and rising homelessness.

Extreme heat is America’s leading weather-related killer, and Phoenix, in Maricopa county, is the deadliest city.

The temperature in Phoenix hit 110F (43C) for the first time this summer on Wednesday, and the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that a band of high pressure moving across the south-west may result in record breaking – or at least record equalling – daily highs in the state capital on Friday through Sunday.

Nighttime temperatures are unlikely to fall below 80F (27C) until at least the middle of next week, posing a danger for people without access to adequate shelter or air conditioning.

My instinct is to mock them for their worthless quest. China and Russia are both self-sufficient. Both have ample food reserves. Most of the world population can easily see where the best future for humankind is unfolding.

The greatest threat to the White Imperalists is Democracy. They never wanted Democracy. It was a psy-op narrative that simplified colonization. But it is Democracy that has exposed the Imperialists. And it is Democracy that will ultimately defeat them.

As an aside, have you read The Road by Cormac McCarthy? It's a brilliant novel about a dystopian future that a father and son are faced with. It's also so much about the love between a father and son.

Shortly before Russia began its rescue operation in Ukraine, and established a Security Zone between NATO and and itself across the south and the east of Ukraine — Xi and Putin composed a statement together for the world about their goals for world peace.

It would behoove humankind to revisit that statement as often as possible. There is another choice for citizens of the world besides sacrificing themselves so that the White Western Psychopaths can rule the world and wipe out their existence.

The coup did succeed - as evidenced by the fact that one Joe "The Big Guy" Biden is wandering around posing under color of law as the legitimately elected president.

Dems and RINOs are desperate to avert the possibility of a real investigation into the events of January 6th and the 2020 election, hence the grand media circus of the J-6 hearings. Perhaps this (and blaming Putin) will save them, but that's unlikely to be enough.

Worth paying attention to what you will *not* be hearing about in the official narrative version of events:

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGGjoyXvveI]

Even prior to the 2020 election, Revolver News reported extensively on the involvement of architects of the 'Color Revolutions'/coups d'etat - including that of Ukraine 2014 in plotting to ensure that Trump would not get a second term, whatever American voters might have to say on the subject.

This all back months before the 2020 election. Seeing how events unfolded subsequently - and how closely they follow the Color Revolution playbook - there is little to indicate their concerns were unfounded.

Part 2"Transition Integrity Project: Is this Soros Linked Group Plotting a “Color Revolution” Against President Trump?"
September 4, 2020

Part 3 "Meet Norm Eisen: Legal Hatchet Man and Central Operative in the “Color Revolution” Against President Trump"
September 9, 2020

As the man who implemented the David Brock blueprint for suing the President into paralysis and his allies into bankruptcy, who helped mainstream and amplify the Russia Hoax, who drafted 10 articles of impeachment for the Democrats a full month before President Trump ever called the Ukraine President in 2018, who personally served as special counsel litigating the Ukraine impeachment, who created a template for Internet censorship of world leaders and a handbook for mass mobilizing racial justice protesters to overturn democratic election results, there is perhaps no man alive with a more decorated resume for plots against President Trump.

Indeed, the story of Norm Eisen – a key architect of nearly every attempt to delegitimize, impeach, censor, sue and remove the democratically elected 45th President of the United States – is a tale that winds through nearly every facet of the color revolution playbook. There is no purer embodiment of Revolver’s thesis that the very same regime change professionals who run Color Revolutions on behalf of the US Government in order to undermine or overthrow alleged “authoritarian” governments overseas, are running the very same playbook to overturn Trump’s 2016 victory and to pre-empt a repeat in 2020. To put it simply, what you see is not just the same Color Revolution playbook run against Trump, but the same people using it against Trump who have employed it in a professional capacity against targets overseas—same people same playbook.

In Norm Eisen’s case, the “same people same playbook” refrain takes an arrestingly literal turn when one realizes that Norm Eisen wrote a classic Color Revolution regime change manual, and conveniently titled it “The Playbook.”

And for anyone interested in seeing what a REAL violent white-supremacist insurrection looks like:

Hopefully, that channel will get a broader exposure.

FWIW - even though I hope the DPR/Russia (and sanity!) prevail, Russia convicting Aidan Aslen and those two others of terrorism - without linking them to specific war crimes is a very unfortunate move.

Russia has captured enough Azov thugs responsible for a litany of atrocities and well deserving of death sentences. It should concentrate on trying them, very fairly and publicly - exposing their crimes and the complicity of their enablers. Some of whom, as Revolver and others have documented are among the leading architects of the attempted destruction of Trump and his supporters.

It was one of his gaffes. But yeah there has been no talk about security for 1/6 and that they knew there was the possibility of violence that day. I heard about it before it happened and the FBI et al talked about it weeks before. That it turned violent shouldn’t have surprised about it. Also Trump said that he offered the national guard but was turned down.

I do have a huge problem with people being held in solitary confinement before being convicted of any crimes. People were being peaceful and then boom cops started shooting tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd. And WHO opened the doors that open from the inside?

Lots of unanswered questions and lots of video that democrats have stopped from being viewed. I’ve seen some of the videos and Gateway Pundit is going to show it.

For crying out loud democrats hired a TV dude to put this dawg and pony show on. Shitlibs want every person involved in financing Trump’s speech arrested and charged for insurrection even though they all had the 1st amendment right to do so. And as for the republicans that didn’t vote to certify the election that wasn’t illegal. Democrats have used the procedure 5 times since 2000 and as for the Big Lie let’s not forget that Hillary, democrats and the shitlibs have been bitching about Russia Russia Russia for 5 years. Even after Mueller's dawg and pony show showing that there was no there there. Plus the media rode Trump’s left buttock his entire time in office.

If Bush could steal 2 elections and democrats could rig 2 primaries right in front of the world then why couldn’t democrats steal it from Trump?

As for anyone believing that the US having fair elections let’s talk about big and dark money and the power AIPAC has over them. Nina Turner’s election was rigged by all 3. Everyone saw it happening.

Oops that was in reply to blue.

Voting is like driving with a toy steering wheel.

Increasing evidence is coming to light detailing the hijacking of the core of the American elections system that not only sheds light on the 2020 US elections, but also on private financing the very infrastructure of local election clerks and election procedures including drop-box mail-in balloting and expenses of city and county election offices.
The room for abuse is staggering as the process is not transparent. At the heart of this is a little-known “non-profit” known as the oddly-named Center for Tech and Civic Life or CTCL. The alleged creator of CTCL and current head is a former Obama Foundation Fellow, Tiana Epps-Johnson.

A close scrutiny of her CTCL funders and operations suggest she was simply chosen as a convenient vehicle by very powerful foundations and Big Tech companies to transform the very structure and control of the American elections process.

Hi all, Hey Joe, Hope all are well! Thanks for the blues, and sorry about the news. On that first headline, I hate to break it, but there is a lot more than Ukraine in which the U.S. lacks a clear picture. Smile

Thanks for the great soundscapes! Have a great weekend. Loved that Love Sculpture, Dave Edmonds was a way better player than the pop hit would ever lead on to. He was the real deal. Great stuff man! Thanks!

Be well all!

heh, clarity is a virtue that our illustrious leaders eschew in favor of their delusions that the world is their oyster, damnit.
