Donnie The Blowhard to Eliminate Oil Well Blowout Preventers

Maybe you remember a little oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico called the Deep Water Horizon Disaster. It was the Failure of the Blowout Preventer (the last line of defense for oil drilling explosions) that ultimately caused the disaster to spin out of control.

Now Donnie's Interior Department is set to decide whether to eliminate the regulations that were put in place to prevent another DWH Disaster -- including the rule forcing oil drillers to install a Blowout Preventer. So then when an oil well explodes, the last line of defense will be a ... prayer.

It's hard to say what will be the Worst Part Of Trump's Legacy, and there are so many contenders already just one year in. But I'm betting damage to the environment will rank near the top of the long list.

Jimmy also covers some of Obama's greatest fuck-yous to the environment. (6:49)

Yes indeedie, "Unnecessary regulations being cut". Donnie's Dim Witted Supporters will be so pleased.

Today's GoT quote.
"Clegane, why are you in such a fowl mood all the time?"
Clegane ("The Hound"): "Experience."

Happy New Year? I guess we'll see.

Oh wait.

I'm sure the OilCos will pay Donnie back hugely. The asshole oil lobbyist Donnie put in charge of the EPA had been calling for the end of the EPA for years. He's fired 20% of EPA employees so far and 200+ scientists have left in disgust. Gonna be a long three more years.

The thinking probably is that since the DWH's blowout preventer didn't work, they must be an unnecessary expense. It doesn't matter how many have worked. All it takes is one failure to justify over-regulation that requires them.

Put your thinking caps on and think like a Republican billionaire.

Corollary:
Someone's auto seat belt failed once and he was thrown through the windshield to his death. Therefore, don't wear your seat belts because evidence shows they don't always work. Hahahha.

Donnie's Dimwits don't seem to realize all the regulations that Donnie is gutting were put in place to protect them. They just keep cheering, Whoopie Another Regulation Gone.

it was mentioned here recently that people act like what Trump is doing is new, when they have been in effect for decades under other administrations.

I don't know if this has a typo in it, but the rules rescinded Friday were supposed to take effect in 2015 but a federal judge in Wyoming blocked them at the last minute. In September, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver declined to rule in that case because the Trump administration intended to rescind the rules.

Good to hear Jimmy tell the reason why Trump is president instead of Her. The kids have a diary up that's calling out Tillerson for the way that he's promoting fracking and the other things he's doing after Her did the same damn things. They do this on multiple topics that were also done during the Obama administration.

The idjits in my state thinks it's great that Trump is deregulating everything because those regulations cost companies money and then they have to raise prices on us. One person wrote that Trump is bringing $2.3 trillion back in the country that will go back into the economy. The companies are Apple and the others that banked their money offshore so they wouldn't have to pay taxes on it. How the Hell do people get to be this naive?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg At least a solid generation of media led training. The rising tide of the right wing noise machine in the 90s helped drown out nuanced discourse and help to promote non critical political team sports thought in both parties. I realize now that the Limbaughization of politics combined with third way neoliberalism resulted in most people fighting tooth and nail over the labeling, not realizing we have a heads they win/tails we lose world.

Nothing readers here don’t know. But at the risk of sounding like a broken record, it’s this whole concept that Trump is an exception, not a continuation of the politics as usual, that is driving me nuts. People just don’t want to accept their good guys aren’t what they thought.

So let's say that Trump is forced out. What happens after he's gone? Will congress regain their sanity and start doing things differently? Will our foreign policies change? Will a number of things change after he is gone or will things be like they have been for the last 4 decades?

Nothing Trump is doing in the Middle East was not done during Obama's tenure. Or Bush's, Clinton, Bush 1 or Reagan's. In fact if Pence becomes president, yippee. We can start living the handmaidens tale. And worse.

@snoopydawg By making this all about Trump, they’ll never need to be asked. Republicans aren’t going change anything, we can be sure of that. And the Dems have pretty much said they don’t need to change a damn thing, so more of the same there. So I guess that’s why I shrug about the whole remove Trump talk, as long as they’re not talking about changing anything other than the figurehead.

last election. That means that 97% of US voters are hopeless dumbasses. Does not inspire much hope for the survival of the US.

Mark Blyth had a great quote on the Repub tax bill...
"The party of the Plutocracy has taken everything they can from the bottom 80%, and now they are coming after the next 19%. That's all you really need to know."

Interesting history of them starting in the 1940's.

A third party will never be built to reform the Democratic Party. The very notion has always been the fatal mistake of every third party. The Democratic Party cannot be reformed. The Democratic Party is not broken. It is doing what it is supposed to do.

We have known that about them, but until others wake up and see both parties are just the same one, a 3rd party will never get enough support to have a chance to win.

The article ends with saying that we need a 3rd party or else, but not describe how we accomplish that.

but to include everything else he's doing. All 4 presidents did the same thing that he's doing. Sure we had laws on the books, but how many were enforced?

@Dr. John Carpenter We've talked about quotes from W.E.B. Dubois, Smedley Butler and Eugene Debs and others of 75-150 years ago and even back to the 1700's with the "founding fathers". Each generation thinks things are different in some way but they never really are different, it's always the same old shit. Because we're humans.

I've been researching recently trying to put together a paper on national referendums and initiatives, direct democracy vs. representative democracy, etc. and what you find is someone has already done all this work and research. It's always out there somewhere but it never goes anywhere because we're trapped in this two party political system and few want to veer outside of it.
