Dominion Sues Kraken

Ruh-roh. Sidney "The Kraken" Powell has been sued for libel by Dominion Voting Systems. The $1.3 billion sought will not even begin to cover the damage done to Dominion's reputation and income. Lies have consequences, as I suspect L. Lin Wood and other lying lawyers will also soon discover.

Dominion Voting Systems filed a lawsuit against former Trump campaign legal advisor Sidney Powell Friday for defamation and deceptive trade practices, after the attorney promoted a “false preconceived narrative” tying the company’s voting machines to widespread election fraud, which the company confirmed will be the first in a “series” of lawsuits targeting Trump allies who have spread the baseless claims—and potentially the president himself.

$1.3 billion. That’s how much Dominion is initially requesting in damages from Powell, which Clare said Friday was likely a “conservative” estimate given the alleged harm against Dominion is still ongoing. Dominion is also asking the court to grant a “a narrowly tailored permanent injunction” ordering the removal of any of Powell’s statements that are found to be false and defamatory, and block Powell from making any further defamatory claims about the company.

While going after Powell was Dominion’s first priority, Clare confirmed Friday the company will file subsequent lawsuits against others who have spread the conspiracy theory. Dominion has sent letters warning of potential litigation to the White House, Fox News, Newsmax, One America News and a number of Trump-allied individuals, including his lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News personalities Sean Hannity and Maria Bartiromo, conservative attorney Lin Wood and Melissa Carone, who Giuliani has pushed as a witness to the purported election fraud. The Powell lawsuit is the “first in a series of legal actions that Dominion will be taking,” Clare told reporters Friday. The attorney noted that subsequent litigation—which is expected to be filed in the “near term” while the litigation against Powell is still pending—will likely include right-wing media outlets who have promoted the false claims, and Clare did not rule out that the company could sue Trump himself.

Dominion Voting Sues Sidney Powell For Defamation Over Election Conspiracy—And Others May Be Next

This should be a pretty cool case. Slander is verbal defamation and libel is written defamation. Powell did both. The problem won't be finding evidence that she committed defamation; it will be deciding which of hundreds of instances to pursue.

I’d love to see them make complaints to the respective bar associations of the several lawyers involved. Seeing a bunch of them disbarred would be sweet and sufficient justice. This kind of shit won’t stop until there is real hazard to asshat attorneys for outright lies and bringing frivolous and unfounded actions to the courts. Plus having them tied up for months or years defending their meal tickets will reduce their bank books and leave them too busy to continue this kind of idiocy.

"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."

but the question will be "What is the difference between a libel suit and a SLAP suit?"
Defamation is already almost impossible to defend yourself from (and to prove) which means that it can - and does - become a contest of how much you have and are willing to spend.
A few years ago a Stanford professor of statistics said that the odds of Hillary's having defeated Bernie by supposedly 30% more on electronic voting machines than paper ballots was one in 16 followed by sixteen zeroes. What if Hillary got used to suing?
The doctor who wrote "Talking Back To Peozac" was blacklisted from teaching by the pharma firm using threats of removing their research grants to any college that hired him. He had to sue the college (Canadian) that had fired him. The college admitted that it had been strongarmed and conceded the suit. Do we really want to make this the norm?
