Dijon Kizzee: Murdered, then Handcuffed by Deputy Sheriff Pigs in S. LA

I didn’t want to write this up, but it’s so disgusting that I feel compelled to. And just to be clear, my rule of thumb is: if you don’t want to be called a Pig...don’t behave like one’. Surprisingly, RT.com has the fairest coverage I’ve read so far. My bolds.
‘Anger in LA after black man shot by deputies; police say victim was carrying a gun, 1 Sep, 2020

“BLM demonstrators flocked to a site in South Los Angeles where a black man was shot and killed by deputies of the LA County Sheriff’s Department. The man was filmed running from the officers and reportedly had a gun on him.

The shooting happened on Monday after midday in the area of Budlong Avenue and 109th Place. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were driving in a patrol car when they saw the man riding a bicycle, and decided to pull him over for a traffic violation. He left the bike and tried to run away.

“When the deputies caught up with him, he fought back and punched one of them in the face. At that moment they spotted a handgun among some clothing items that the man had been carrying and dropped on the ground during the fight. It was not immediately clear if he tried to reach for the weapon before the deputies shot him, the department said in a statement to the media.

The confrontation was filmed on a phone by an eyewitness, though the footage available on social media doesn’t include the moment of the shooting itself.”

“The series of short clips first shows a black man running in the street. It then goes to a moment after the shooting, showing two police officers [there eem to be more than two] with their handguns drawn and the shooting victim lying motionlessly. Witnesses are heard screaming while the cameraman says: “They shot [him] like 20 times.”
The police would not immediately release the name of the shooting victim, but his family and the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter identified him as Dijon Kizzee, who was in his late 20s.

The angry crowd of eyewitnesses grew in size over the following hours as additional protesters gathered at the scene. By Monday evening, hundreds of demonstrators convened, answering a call by Black Lives Matter organizers. The protest remained peaceful.
NEW: Family members have identified the man fatally shot today by LASD deputies in South LA as 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee https://cbsloc.al/32X42zV

He helpfully gives the names of shooters and shots in both locations I cant keep track of. But these quotes he's featured blew me totally away:

"He [Donald Trump] claimed that in order to “teach our children that America is a free and just nation” it was necessary to “jail lawbreakers and defeat their hateful ideology.” He seemed to be echoing the extraordinary statement made by Newt Gingrich earlier in the day on Trump’s favorite cable television show, “Fox and Friends,” where the former House speaker said that the only way to “break the fever” of violence in the streets was to “keep arresting people until there’s no one left.”

bill. and wot? they couldn't have tased him?/s

it all sounds like utter rubbish to me. 'po-po testilying'. a veHICle offense by bicycle? dude just happened to have a gun in his wad of clothes? if he hadn't popped one in the face, someone will have by now...for the photo evidence.

one version claimed that the sheriff's will look at all available CCTV cameras n the area.

dunno when i'll be able to make it back; my RL obligations are callin' me.

"Let's put them in jail. Let's stop them from, truly, at least some of these males, going out and getting 10 other women pregnant and having small children. Let's put them away. At some point, we have to stop being politically correct. I don't care what race, I don't care how old they are. If there's a threshold that they cross. These people have to be warehoused, no recreational time in jails. We put them away for the rest of their lives so the rest of us can be better."

blood brothers. and the Pig Sheriff (no offense meant to barnyard pigs, they're very smart and clean given the chance) was also quoted as having said:

Following the arrest of five people for shoplifting close to $5,000 of merchandise from Prime Outlets in Pleasant Prairie and a subsequent high-speed chase that ended in a collision with another vehicle, Beth delivered a strong message about the perpetrators, three Black men and two Black women from Milwaukee.

"I'm to the point where I think society has to come to a threshold where there are some people that aren't worth saving," Beth said. "We need to build warehouses to put these people into it and lock them away for the rest of their lives. These five people could care less about that 16-year-old who just got his driver's license yesterday. They drove through a red light, they stole thousands of dollars worth of clothing, and they don't care."

Had to shoot him, because he abandoned a weapon?
Or had to shoot him to hide the fact of a drop gun?
Or just plain had to shoot him?

Do they get a special tattoo for this?

I feel sick.

@pindar's revenge

let's hassle him for a bicycle veHICle (h/t Risso on MASH) infraction. i'd guess it's a throw-down, and he'd never punched any pig in the face. he runs off on foot, they follow him? but dammit, they'll get to the bottom of it! (and erase any tape of what actually happened.)

and these weren't even city cops. LA, NY, and one other huge city swapped police commissioners for decades. bernie kerick, billy bratton, and ray kelly. gawd's blood.

NYC still loves 'broken windows' policing.

special tattoo; interesting (if sick) thought, pindar's revenge. maybe secret medals of valor? how many of them did you see in that citizen video? or were some of them just aiming their WEAPONS at him once he was handcuffed and DEAD on the ground? looked like hunting to me.

"if he wasn't (sic) guilty, why did he run away?" i've seen on twitter. #TakeAGuess

Ran from a cop who was so violent, the sheriff of the cop's home county had taken away his guns from his home. Freddie's running gave the cops enough reason to attack Freddie. It could be argued that people with sense run from people like that cop.

Coulda been a drop gun, coulda been Mr. Kizzee abandoning contraband, but I can't see where that would justify shooting him, if he ditched a weapon. But dead men tell no tales.

The tats I was thinking of: correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it in LA that some cops got special tattoos when they killed someone? Members of the club, er, gang?

edit: here's a reference to special cop tattoos. There are many articles on the web, but this one has no barriers.
https://ktla.com/news/local-news/fbi-investigating-tattooed-deputy-gangs...

another edit: there appear to be a number of LA cop gangs who wear special tattoos. From
https://www.vox.com/identities/2019/10/11/20910315/banditos-los-angeles-...
"In other cases, deputies allegedly received additional markings after fulfilling certain conditions, like committing police brutality or being involved in a shooting. "

I want to say that modern times are sickening, but this shit probably goes back to the end of Reconstruction, at least.

is an eye-popper, citing about 9 tattooed groups, terrorizing not only other gangs, but the civilian population as well. must have been pretty nerve-racking for some deputies to bring the complaints. but yes, i'd thought you were being metaphorical. it seems that the myriad lawsuits haven't made much of a dent, either.

newsweek this a.m. is reporting that now the sheriff is tweeting that dijon DID have the gun in his hand...

freddie gray, say his name! rough ridden to death. i had forgotten that he'd been on a bike, too.

but how 'bout this for getting a metaphorical medal of valor for your brutal deeds?

Three years ago, an officer was filmed beating up a handcuffed Black man. Now, he’s the police chief’, WaPo, this a.m.

When Kentdrick Ratliff tried to reach for a pill bottle that police had confiscated from him, his physical struggle with officers in Hammond, La., quickly got violent.

As the Black man wrestled with them on top of a table in a police booking room, one officer kicked Ratliff in the head, video of the 2017 incident/strong> shows.

Another placed his boot on the man’s neck. Sgt. Edwin Bergeron, who is White, punched Ratliff five times with a closed fist.

Following the tussle, Bergeron was promoted to police chief, Ratliff was convicted of resisting arrest, and city officials in Hammond — a college town of roughly 20,000 in southeastern Louisiana — reportedly told his lawyer that complete footage of the incident did not exist.

This week, after a full video of the incident was published by a local TV station, local civil rights activists have renewed their calls for the embattled chief to resign as federal officials have reportedly reopened investigation into the booking room fight.

the video wasn't there, but it's probably just as well.

i expect you're right about similar shit happening since reconstruction, but there are differences, on the one hand the Rise of the Warrior Cop, the fact that many PDs give preferential hiring to vets ('the other is the enemy', many with PTSD, etc.), corporate contributions to LEO unions, no requirements to live in the community one is 'Protecting & Serving', and so on.

on the other hand, much of this we wouldn't have learned save for citizen smart phone videos.

wonder how the problem was solved?

and wondering if benjamin crump might be representing kizzeee's family, from the twittersphere:

The cyclist, 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee, was shot more than 20 times in the back on Monday afternoon after two sheriff’s deputies tried to stop him for a bicycle code violation, said Benjamin Crump, who said he is representing Kizzee’s family.

uncovered cop-Klan collaboration. These kind of people have not gone away; police forces ("force", an interesting word to apply) are attractive to people who want to join a gang and carry a gun, and the far right has been actively infiltrating police and military for years.

Tattoos on torso or upper arm that don't show in public are one way these members recognize each other.

I think of Rall's cartoon: white guy and black guy watching news. White guy says he's scared of police. Black guy says he's scared to death of police.

Freddie Gray was on foot - the cops were on bikes. I consider his subsequent "rough ride" to be a form of torture, ultimately lethal in this case. I don't have the reference at hand now, but I read that a county sheriff had confiscated one of the bike cops' guns prior to this event. If I knew this cop (even by reputation) and encountered him, I think I'd be tempted to run, too.

that he was on a bike, as the cops were. ; ) i just watched far too many videos on his arrest and rough ride; i'm overloaded with vertigo and want to barf.

but this one might be the pithiest one, save for the ones that say the Baltimore police 'revised their timeline'.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il5dO4oqQcs]

and ta for the reminder of the klan and killer cops in Mississippi Burning; never read it, but i'll see if we can get the film if the local liberry ever opens again.

added on edit: and many seem to have been rejected from military services, or booted out. many PDs also have fired kops being rehired under new management.

even when rarely indicted, most are found not guilty, but unions also hire defense attorneys who 're-enact the crime' for juries, showing that (say) six other cops just testilyed that he was reaching for his gun (ooopsie: his cell phone), so we hadda mow him down in self-defense!'

but that phrase was actually the codename for the FBI case investigating the killings. I should see if the library has it.

My local lib is doing online orders and curbside pickup. I've been ordering a lot of comedies. I absolutely need the escape. But at the same time, I ordered a book about Nat Turner by Terry Bisson. I strongly recommend Bisson: award-winning leftist sf writer. The last thing I read by him was an alternate history, built on the assumption that John Brown and Harriet Tubman succeeded in starting a slave revolt. The South became an independent black republic. If only...

sees his visit and solutions (in part):

'Trump visits Kenosha to defend killer police and vigilantes', sept. 2, wsws.org:

On the eve of the visit, yet another unarmed man was shot and killed by US police, this time in Los Angeles, provoking protests in that city. Since May 25, the day George Floyd was brutally murdered by a Minneapolis police officer, at least 235 people have been killed by police in the US. The pace of killings is on track to surpass 1,000 this year, with nearly three people shot dead by the police every day.
........................................
At a White House press conference on Monday, Trump defended Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old Trump supporter who joined with a band of vigilantes on the night of August 25 to confront protesters in Kenosha and fatally shot two peaceful demonstrators. Rittenhouse also shot and wounded a third protester.

The Kenosha police, as recorded on cell phone video watched by millions, thanked the fascistic gunmen, gave them water, and allowed the automatic rifle-toting Rittenhouse to walk through police lines after his shooting spree and return home to Illinois. Rittenhouse was subsequently charged with first-degree homicide and is facing extradition to Wisconsin.

Trump, however, said Rittenhouse acted in self-defense and otherwise would have been killed by the protesters. At the same press conference, he defended Trump supporters who drove a truck caravan into downtown Portland on Saturday and fired paintballs and pepper spray on demonstrators. The provocation resulted in the shooting death of a right-wing activist under circumstances that remain unclear.

Trump’s efforts to project an image of authoritarian strength during his visit to Kenosha were belied by the extraordinary security measures taken to wall him off from the population of the Midwest city of 100,000 people. Hundreds of police, sheriff’s deputies and National Guard troops patrolled the streets, helicopters circled overhead, hulking armored vehicles were deployed, and those areas toured by Trump were blocked off by rows of gigantic construction vehicles and trucks. All commuter train traffic between Kenosha and Chicago was shut down.

Trump visited an emergency management center, toured small businesses damaged by rioting that followed police crackdowns against protesters, and held a one-hour roundtable discussion with local and state police and National Guard officials. Also on hand was Attorney General William Barr and Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf. Democratic Governor Tony Evers and Mayor John Antaramian, both of whom had publicly urged Trump not to come to the city, were not present.

@pindar's revenge looking for a killer who got his wife and daughter. The group of police and their accomplices (gang) who did killing had something like a three dot tatoo. Strangely predictive.

And very creepy.

They are double and tripling down now that what they do is out in the open.

I really do have no words.
