In Defense of Jeremy Corbyn

On June 8, the UK will have a general election, and if the polls are accurate the leftist Labour Party is about to get destroyed by the conservative Tories.

Why is that?

Is it because people don't like Labour's policies?
Nope.

Voters overwhelmingly back policies set out in Labour’s leaked manifesto, including nationalising the railways, building more houses and raising taxes on higher earners, according to a poll.
The ComRes survey shows around half of people support state ownership of the train network (52 per cent), energy market (49 per cent) and Royal Mail (50 per cent).
Roughly a quarter of people (22, 24 and 25 per cent respectively) said they opposed the policies, outlined in the party’s draft document, which was signed off by Labour executives at a meeting on Thursday.

In fact, since Labour released this manifesto they've surged somewhat in the polls.

Labour have climbed to 32 per cent in two new polls published on Saturday night, their highest rating for 180 days. Significantly, this is higher than the vote share Labour received in the 2015 general election, when Ed Miliband won over 30.4 per cent of voters.
However, the Conservatives still command a hefty lead of between 14 and 15 points, according to the polls conducted by Opinium and ORB.

Is it because people preferred the neoliberal Tony Blair over the socialist Jeremy Corbyn?
Nope.

While one in three people (33 per cent) has a favourable opinion of Mr Corbyn, and 60 per cent an unfavourable one, Mr Blair’s ratings are even more bleak, at 21 per cent and 72 per cent respectively.
The survey of 2,006 adults by ORB found that 60 per cent of people who voted Labour at the 2015 election have a favourable view of Mr Corbyn, and 35 per cent an unfavourable one. Mr Blair is much less popular among them; only 37 per cent have a favourable opinion of him, while 56 per cent do not.
Three in 10 people (29 per cent) believe Labour would be in a better position going into next month’s election with Mr Blair as leader, but almost twice as many (56 per cent) disagree with this statement.

So why is it that the polls are so poor for Labour and Corbyn?
It's really quite simple:
The news media attacks on Corbyn have been UNRELENTING since he took over the UK Labour Party.
In fact, they have been so biased against Corbyn that the UK news media has basically discarded ethics in journalism.

The media researchers found that in 52 per cent of articles about the Labour leader, his own views were not included – while in a further 22 per cent they were “present but taken out of context” or otherwise distorted.
In just 15 per cent of 812 articles analysed, Mr Corbyn’s views were present but challenged, and in only 11 per cent were they present without alteration.

Not surprisingly, the British people have noticed.

Just 29 per cent of British adults disagreed that the “mainstream media as a whole has been deliberately biasing coverage to portray Jeremy Corbyn in a negative manner” when asked by pollsters YouGov.
51 per cent of people agreed that coverage had been deliberately biased and while 21 per cent said they were not sure.

My guess is that Labour will slightly outperform what the polls show.
However, I think the perception damage by an openly biased news media is just too much for Labour to overcome.
