Declassified Congressional Report: James Clapper Lied About Dossier Leaks To CNN

Guess who got a well paying job at CNN after they got the Clinton Dossier?? I’ll give you 3 guesses.

It’s getting really hard to keep up with who lied about what when and to who!

Declassified Congressional Report: James Clapper Lied About Dossier Leaks To CNN

APRIL 27, 2018 By Sean Davis

Buried within a newly declassified congressional report on Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections is a shocking revelation: former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper not only leaked information about the infamous Steele dossier and high-level government briefings about it to CNN, he also may have lied to Congress about the matter.

In one of the findings within the 253-page report, the House intelligence committee wrote that Clapper leaked details of a dossier briefing given to then-President-elect Donald Trump to CNN’s Jake Tapper, lied to Congress about the leak, and was rewarded with a CNN contract a few months later.

*

When asked directly whether he had ever discussed the dossier with any journalists, Clapper replied that he had not, according to a transcript of the proceedings:

MR. ROONEY: Did you discuss the dossier or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists?

MR. CLAPPER: No.

Clapper subsequently acknowledged discussing the ‘dossier with CNN journalist Jake Tapper,’ and admitted that he might have spoken with other journalists about the same topic,” the report continued. “Clapper’s discussion with Tapper took place in early January 2017, around the time IC leaders briefed President Obama and President-elect Trump, on ‘the Christopher Steele information,’ a two-page summary of which was ‘enclosed in’ the highly-classified version of the ICA,” or intelligence community assessment.

*

The revelation that Clapper was responsible for leaking details of both the dossier and briefings to two presidents on the matter is significant, because former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James Comey wrote in one of four memos that he leaked that the briefing of Trump on salacious and unverified allegations from the dossier was necessary because “CNN had them and were looking for a news hook.”

We need to be getting down to the real nitty gritty on all these lying bastids. If the Clap’s ass doesn’t land in jail...wut? He’s doing it for our good? Oh, that must be like rigging elections I guess.

Is he going to get a sternly worded letter from Congress?

There are no consequences for breaking the law in the US, if you're an insider.

@dervish I am shocked and dismayed that this is going nowhere.

MR. ROONEY: Did you discuss the dossier or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists?

MR. CLAPPER: No.

Here's how you squirm out of this one: the question,

Did you discuss the dossier or any other intelligence related to Russia hacking of the 2016 election with journalists?

refers to the dossier as if it were intelligence related to Russia hacking. But it isn't. The dossier has been described as salacious by key players in this word game. It has no relation to Russian hacking as there has been no evidence of Russian hacking. These lawyers know what they're doing. The question was carefully worded.

He had already gotten away with lying to congress when he was asked if the NSA was wiretapping American citizens.

"Nope "

The thing is that everyone knew that he lied. Lying is no longer considered perjury in this country. Well, I guess that we little people would still be charged for it if we did it.

Steele information,’ a two-page summary of which was ‘enclosed in’ the highly-classified version of the ICA,” or intelligence community assessment.

Why would it have been classified? It was full of hearsay conversations about things that people said Trump did. Comey stated that it was unverified, so why classified? Did Hillary have access to it since she paid for it? It's still opposition research on her opponent that she got the FBI to help her get. Nixon only had the help from some burglars.

@snoopydawg

good question!

Why would it have been classified?

@Linda Wood

It's a conundrum, isn't it? In fact, the whole Russian bull crap is a conundrum. I read today that everyone of us who isn't buying this Russia hacked the DNC computers and that Russia got Trump elected have their heads so far up their assets that they will never see daylight again. Guess where I read this?

This too is an excellent point.

. It has no relation to Russian hacking as there has been no evidence of Russian hacking.

The saying is never ask question that you don't know the answer to comes into play a lot during the congressional hearings.

This happened with the Benghazi hearings too. Goedy never asked Her what Stevens was doing at the embassy that got him killed. We know that the CIA was running weapons out of it and they were given to our head chopping terrorists friends moderate Syrian rebels so that they could help us overthrow Assad. But did he ask her that? Nope.
