Day 2 as the events in Ukraine continue to spiral.

This is but an introduction to today's events as things are quite fluid.

First a bit of catching up on over night events.

Has Blinken ever done anything right?

Much more to follow in the comment section.

@humphrey @humphrey Hello again y'all. Hope all's well on a personal level. I disagree with many of the takes here re. Ukraine which shouldn't be surprising with those of you who remember me.

For what it's worth, I've been looking a lot at reporting from these sources:

Kyle Glen

and

Jake Hanrahan

Oops! wrong Schultz.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday moved to halt the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's recognition of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine and decision to deploy troops to the areas.

“In light of the most recent developments, we must reassess the situation, in particular, regarding Nord Stream 2,” Scholz said, according to CNBC.

Scholz reportedly stated that his nation would not recognize the pro-Russian, separatist regions of Ukraine, adding that he would order German officials to “make sure that this pipeline cannot be certified at this point in time, and without this certification Nord Stream 2 cannot operate.”

“The appropriate departments of the economy ministry will make a new assessment of the security of our supply in light of what has changed in last few days,” Scholz said, according to CNBC.

@humphrey There's lots of natural gas that could be harnessed from Holland and don't be surprised if the US initiates a new Marshall Plan of sorts that would send a flotilla of liquid natural gas to Europe. And maybe it's time for Europe to focus more on developing renewable energy sources anyway.

@humphrey this country stopped being a force for good long long ago. We are now
only seeing the fraud play like it is out because they have no other solution.

enacted secretly (see eye hay) and the fouled-up military justifications were pure malarky, scripted for mass hypnosis consumption. The push-back on Ukraine and Taiwan are going to have a
bit more force. Perhaps with deadly consequences.

Just as the US can not jab their way out of a pandemic, they will not bomb their way out of
these diversions. The economic repercussions alone will cripple the bully. Sadly, it will be we
the people that will suffer the most for these misadventures.

Thanks for the post.

at the tail end of the Ukraine thread, but I think it bears reposting today.

I wonder which of our own ships we will sink in order to create the excuse for Military Fun Times? My money's on the MV Ocean Grand, since she has already transited the Bosporus... US flagged merchant vessel carrying two repurposed Coast Guard cutters to "shore up" the Ukranian Navy. Nothing provocative about that, of course. Sitting duck. So if they don't decide to splash her, we probably will.

Remember the Maine!

Faugh. Hearst and Pulitzer couldn't hold a candle to the current run of wholly-owned media stenographers.

The Truman carrier strike group is still in the Med: the USS Harry S. Truman, the cruiser USS San Jacinto and the guided missile destroyers USS Cole, USS Bainbridge, USS Gravely and USS Jason Dunham. Also with them is the Royal Norwegian Navy frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen. If they stick their noses into the Dardanelles, they'll be on the bottom very shortly. The Bosporus will be plugged full of twisted metal if they even get that far...

Not a good time to vacation in Istanbul, by the way.

@usefewersyllables

it isn't going to be the MV Ocean Grand: she did her thing in the Black Sea, dropped off the cutters, and beat feet. She is now on her way to Korea from Singapore, after doing the Suez. So, in the words of Emily Littella:[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjYoNL4g5Vg width:400 height:300]

truth bomb

There are all kinds of criticisms that one can level against this move by Moscow, if one feels that the entire western political/media class screaming all of these criticisms in unison does not have enough amplification. For myself, I would just like to point out that the US-centralized empire is the very last institution on this planet who has any business babbling about the “sovereignty” of other nations. Absolute dead last.

I say this not out of any kind of fondness for Putin or support for his decisions, but because the absolute worst violator of national sovereignty in the entire world by a truly gargantuan margin complaining about violations of national sovereignty is bat shit insane.

Pointing out things the US empire has done while it shrieks about the actions of a foreign government will get you accused of “whataboutism”, but it’s not a whataboutism. It’s pointing out that the US is the absolute least qualified government on earth to comment on the issue at hand, so it should shut the whole entire fuck up about it. If the US wants to legitimately complain about the transgressions of unaligned governments, then it must cease being the worst transgressor.

Some might say, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.” Okay. But inflicting ten thousand wrongs definitely means you should shut the fuck up about anyone doing one wrong.

This would after all be the same empire that has is currently circling the planet with hundreds of military bases and waging wars which have killed millions and displaced tens of millions just since the turn of this century. Its sanctions and blockades are starving people to death en masse every single day. It works to destroy any nation which disobeys its dictates by toppling their governments via CIA coups, proxy armies, partial and full-scale invasions, and the most egregious number of election interferences in the entire world, while threatening the entire species with nuclear brinkmanship on multiple fronts.
