Daily Kos criticises FLOTUS Melania!

Who'd a thunk it?

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/10/3/1703881/-Melania-Is-Exploitin...

Whatever happened to...feminism? Women standing together! Immigrant chic? All of a sudden her exotic appeal ain't so appealing anymore? Remember all the careful talking around the fact that Mme. Trump in the WH is an insult to American women of whatever hue?

Some folks just don't have the courage of their ideologies.

Her let's move PR stunt directed at overweight kids really pissed me off. Don't go after the toxins in our food, blame the kids.

I just read StevenDs essay on the teacher with the GoFundMe page, and I'm pissed as hell. All the money in the fucking world for bombs and to fly Trump's fat ass around, but fuck the people. I won't say what I wish.

try criticizing queen obama - pfft Her let's move PR stunt directed at overweight kids really pissed me off. Don't go after the toxins in our food, blame the kids.

And her veggie garden on the White House grounds, while an excellent idea in its own right, is an option wholly unavailable for most of us 99%ers. But, of course, any movement towards basic high-school grad salaries paying enough to make it a realistic option wasn't in the cards either.

You'd think our national leaders would have developed beyond high school level personalities, but...

She could have used her influence and power to go after big pharma, GMOs, and all the antibiotics and growth hormones shot into our food. Instead she plants a garden and says, come one kids - let's move.

woman, on the planet. I don't know how she can stand her slobby, fat, slimey husband. Whatever she's getting, it has to be a lot.

@dkmich the most clueless. She even manages to make Stepford Laura look like a normal person. Frankly, for my part, I am about done with "being nice" about some folk's babes and boobs obsessions.

By the way, I think Melania is the most beautiful FLOTUS, woman, on the planet. I don't know how she can stand her slobby, fat, slimey husband. Whatever she's getting, it has to be a lot.

I'll give you a clue:

@thanatokephaloides I am seeing a lot of Boommer aging males, living alone with their beverages and their TVs, feeling sorry for themselves. An guess what, most of us aging boomer females, we don't want anything to do with these guys. Guess we got insulted, cat-called, name called about one or a hundred too many times.

You younger generation men might want to remind yourselves that, contrary to popular mythology, we women are not infinitely forgiving.

So… after over a year I soiled my browser with the Great Satan. And almost immediately it tried to get me lost in clickbait ads. (I have parkinson's and am vulnerable to misclicks)
Then just for fun I read a few of the comments. I wonder if they realize the criticism of Mrs. Trump sounds exactly like Hillary? (Only in it for the money? Probably, but at least it isn't "will Bomb for bribes", "put up with his "pussy grabbing"? uh… "I don't know for sure, but I hear he's got an assistant who can't type"? me-ow! I wonder if her name is Monica?)
btw, I'm surprised they didn't seem to know about Marla's pre-nup (if the marriage lasted less than a year she only got $1 million - she was served divorce papers after 364 days) seems like that tidbit would have been right up their alley(cat), but that says a ton about Hillbots: faux outrage is so much easier than real outrage.
Excuse me; I have to give my Mac a shower.

Chances are she never expected or wanted to be FLOTUS. She married a billionaire businessman and reality TV star, possibly with the understanding that they'd live their lives independently of each other. Who'd a thunk he'd end up being POTUS? (Not Hillary and the DNC, that's for sure.)

Other recent First Ladies knew what they were getting into, some from the get-go (Laura and Barbara Bush, Jackie Kennedy, for instance), and were an integral part of their husbands' political careers (Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Nancy Reagan). Even Rosalynn Carter, while she probably didn't anticipate being in the White House, undoubtedly was consulted by Jimmy before he made the decision to run.

I doubt that Donald consults with Melania about much of anything. He made the decision, for whatever reason, and she's stuck with it, thrust into a situation she most likely didn't bargain for.

@Centaurea and I admire your generosity and kindness.

Nevertheless, while I emphatically don't join the DK vituperation, I do consider Mrs. T's presence in the WH to be an insult to American women.

Michelle Obama, who was roundly criticized by the right for alleged extravagance, took the trouble to wear American designers; Mme. T can't even bother to do that. Clothes is one thing but I have other, more serious causes for complaint, in that I can't help thinking that with all the resources of hubby at her command she might have.. read a book once in a while, or if she is not into reading, arranged for briefings so that she might be less of an idiot. Maybe taken some graduate courses, done some travel to non luxury locations. Upper class American women, most of them, understand that they need to be and be seen to be patronesses of worthy causes; Melania appears to do none of that. Fancy pants charity balls are ridiculed by people who never get invited to them, but there are lots of other ways a wealthy woman can make herself useful.

What amused me about the DK article and subsequent mud slinging, is how, not so long ago, Kossacks were into Feminist Solidarity, and Melania was off limits. If the goal was to defeat T-Rumpus, a hard, cold look into the wife's antecedents, mode of life and so on, might have been thought to be warranted. Who were her previous partners? What about her immigration status? If she really does speak 4 or 5 languages, why did she need to be a model at all? Mrs. Heinz-Kerry, another target of RW vituperation, worked, as in held down an actual Jay Oh Bee, translating for the UN, before she married Mr. Heinz.

@Nastarana

I'm supposed to be insulted by Melania Trump being in the White House. She's basically irrelevant to me. I just checked, and nope, I don't have any emotions like that about her at all. Nothing. At most I find her a bit of a mystery. But then I've never understood marrying a disgusting man, because of money and power. It's bizarre, imo, but Melania Trump is hardly the first woman to do that.

Donald Trump being in the White House is an insult to all Americans. He's an insult to all people in every country. But his wife, why would we care about her? I realize I'm against the entire concept of "first couple" and "two for the price of one" presidencies. Putting the wife under a microscope and making her looks and everything else about her a qualification for his election, just doesn't sit well.

How about we get rid of First Lady as a job? The whole idea seems archaic to me. It's interesting how in some ways, Americans seem to still long for monarchy and having a royal family. We just can't let it go. The First Lady has to look and act a certain way, for show.

I honestly don't care about Melania. I can't imagine how she stands her husband (~shudder~), but I'm not insulted by her. I definitely don't agree with the idea that the First Lady, whoever it may be, is required to do or be anything in particular. They were not elected. Why do we treat the president's family and wife like a pseudo royal family, with the press and public watching and reacting to their every move, what shoes they wear, their fashion and style and hair and how beautiful they are, what causes they champion, how they raise their children, everything. I just don't think those things matter.

I do agree about the hypocrisy on dkos in attacking her, but that is par for the course over there. Partisan nonsense is what they do, not consistency.

@CS in AZ

Thanks for saying pretty much what I was thinking! Why must a woman's life be subsumed and centred around her husband's job - whatever it may be - as merely an adjunct to her man? And surely how she dresses and looks is her own business. From the perspective of one who considers herself as a feminist and women as human beings, this sort of criticism kinda sucks.

Not that I didn't myself snicker at Potholder Hillary... but on the other hand, she lacks all humanity, making her a special case.

several times in that Melania bashing spree right before I was put on vacation again. One of my comments got 17 recs. And I was not the only one who criticized the degrading trash that these diaries represent.
The nastiness over there when it comes to Trump's family is below street level writing and commenting. I actually hope a lot of visitors to the site saw that and concluded that the Dems are just as low level as the GOP.

I couldn't bear to go there but unfortunately can pretty much imagine the ugly.

Now, if Melania'd sold clusterbombs to mostly main and kill women and kids, that'd probably finally become A Bad Thing to them, whereas Hillary can starve, dispossess and otherwise harm women and children at home and abroad and wear potholders to campaign fundraisers without a negative word spoken by Her supporters.
