The Craig Murray trial. There is yet more back story here.

The link takes you to a description of the trial and verdict in which Murray, former UK diplomat, friend and supporter of Julian Assange, and outspoken advocate for Scottish independence, was found guilty of (if I understand it) printing information which might, maybe have lead some to guess the ID of accusers of then on trial for alleged sexual harassment Scottish politician Alex Salmond. Salmond was found innocent. Salmond has gone on to found the Alba Party and generally, I gather, be a thorn in the side of Nicola Sturgeon. Murray has since been sentenced to an 8 month prison term, which sounds to me like a slo-mo death sentence for an aging man with serious health problems. The last I know, he is out pending an appeal to the UK Supreme Court.

There were two known reasons the UK AND American establishments were going after Murray, that he was a prominent voice in favor of Scottish independence and his support for and journalism about Assange. He is also on record saying less than respectful things about American neo-cons. Now we have a third reason, which can be found on Murray's blog under the title Scottish/English Maritime Borders.

It turns out that Murray, in his days as a UK diplomat, was a member of teams which negotiated international maritime borders and can rightfully be considered an expert on the subject. He was not, and the way I read his article, does not claim to have been a team leader, pace some idiot in the comment section of Murray's blog. It also turns out that Tony Blair, remember him, managed to sneak through some sort of govt. entity--British govt. being at least as complicated as our own--a massive grab of what I would think any reasonable person would understand to be Scottish off shore waters and sea bed, oil and fish being at stake and probably transit rights as well. Check out the map Murray provided and judge for yourself.

If it ever should come to genuine negotiations over Scottish independence, Whitehall DOES NOT want to see Murray sitting across a table from the representatives of the Crown. I wonder what the judge in his trial was promised? Seat in the House of Lords? No doubt we will find out.
