The Color Purple

Is it possible (if Sanders does not get the nomination) to convince progressives in RED STATES to vote for or write-in Sanders or Jill Stein and garner enough votes to begin the process of turning Red States and Blue States to the color purple?

Here's a brilliant idea from someone I know on Facebook:

It makes more sense to me for progressives living in a red state, to use their vote to make a statement. Jill Stein will not win one state, but if every progressive, socialist, green leaning voter living in all the deep red states were to vote for her, it wouldn't change the outcome of the election at all, but it would make a statement.

For my friends who live in Texas. Assuming Hillary gets the nomination and we're all still in Texas in November, voting for her will literally be throwing your vote away, because of the way the process works and the fact that Texas will still be solidly "red" this November.

I can't see throwing my vote away, it's too precious for that. Since none of the democratic votes for president in Texas will be counted, the very best thing I can do with my precious vote is to vote my true choice, which in my case is Socialist, but the Green Party is close enough.

Please consider all the facts about how our election process functions, and don't throw your vote away.

Imagine it . . . if we could rustle up a few MILLION votes that way. Not 1/2 a million (as Stein has received which is pretty damned decent if you ask me)... but millions of votes for a third way and suddenly we have credibility and a viable constituency.

This could be the foot in the door we have been looking for and it seems to me it's a case worth making: people's consciences are assuaged because their vote won't help elect Trump but it may save America's form of democracy.

The sweet magic of this irony: the Red States play a major role in turning the country PURPLE.

I think we should try to move this idea around as much as possible in social media... on every kind of outlet... what do you guys think????

But I'm not sure how much the powers that be care about these kinds of "statements," especially when they're undertaken with such caution so as to intentionally not affect any outcomes.

If you want to make the kind of statement they'll listen to, vote for Jill Stein in a purple state.

Provided that the Democratic Party doesn't come to its senses and nominate Bernie Sanders at its convention in Philadelphia, that's exactly what this Coloradoan is planning on doing.

If you are in a "blue state" and vote green, that also makes a statement. It is time for the Democratic Party to stop taking the boat of progressives for granted.

it's a worthy case, but one much harder to make: too many people in swing and blue states are afraid to vote Green or Indie because of Trump (or whatever flavor bogieman is on the menu during any election cycle).

so let's not get sidelined. there may be a way to rack up MILLIONS of votes and believe me, that is a big yuuuuge thing without voters in red states worrying their vote might help Trump.

for everyone in every state that has Green on the ballot. I think the rationale for red vs purple will be different. I think the argument made for the red state voters is a good one. It should be a guilt free sell.

My frustrations with the "left" is how fractured it is. The Republicans said Tea Pots, and it was done.

and 5 swing states could go Green, then this is far more massive than I imagined ... and if any one sane ever heard Jill, it would be an easy case to make.

There are four or five states heavy blue where I could see a realistic possibility of Green winning a plurality. That would be Washington. Oregon, Minnesota, Hawaii, Vermont. The Electors are not bound and maybe a deal could be brokered in the Electoral College. I think campaigning for both Libertarian (amongst disgruntled Republicans) and Green at the same time would help win pluralities (I saw the L. candidate on Democracy Now, and he seems to have some of things in common... for example saying the government has no right to meddle in women's reproductive rights, against the Patriot Act and NSA survelliance.

with a real possibility, then that's a horse of a different color.

I don't know what the polling says and, as an aside, I hate libertarianism even more than repubicanism... but it's worth looking at if Green could win in five states backed up with millions of votes from red states. wow.

as for Libs, they are pretty close to progressives on civil liberties but that can turn on a dime if it interferes with free markets. so they aren't reliable.

I am not voting for Hillary. Period. But not every one who either supports Bernie or is uncomfortable with Hillary will vote for Stein (it would be much easier if Sanders ran as an Indie) because of Trump... you might get more traction this cycle in swing and blue states if a Romney or someone not so terrifying as Trump was on the ticket.

This is a very SPECIFIC idea and plan to convince progressive Red State voters of their opportunity to make a huge impact without contributing to a Trump win. i think it is a mistake to veer off this idea by mixing it with other initiatives.

Then you are playing her game. She doesn't care about her motives. She doesn't care if you are making a statement. She doesn't care about anything but winning and the Clinton's personal assets.

Now, if maybe we could hold a collection to bribe her to quit the race, maybe we have something.

But Good God! DON"T vote for Hillary!
