Clinton Perjury Issue Referred to DOJ - it's for reals
Hat tip to Sojurns for posting this comment:
Congressmen ask U.S. Attorney’s Office to investigate Clinton for perjury
Two Republican congressmen on Monday formally requested that the U.S. Attorney for the District investigate whether Hillary Clinton committed perjury when she testified before a congressional committee about her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
The letter from U.S. Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) asserts that evidence collected by the FBI during its investigation involving Clinton’s email practices “appears to directly contradict several aspects of her sworn testimony” and asks federal authorities to “investigate and determine whether to prosecute Secretary Clinton for violating statutes that prohibit perjury and false statements to Congress, or any other relevant statutes.” It is addressed to U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and copied to FBI Director James B. Comey and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
This is far from over, people:
Lynch will be speaking to the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow which is chaired by Goodlatte.
and:
Separately on Monday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), who chairs the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, sent letters to the Justice Department, State Department, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Intelligence Community and State Department Inspector Generals requesting more information on the Clinton email investigation, especially related to its financial costs.
And her people may be less than happy to see this:
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that a majority of Americans — 56 percent — disapproved of the FBI director’s recommendation not to charge Clinton, and 57 percent said the issue made them at least somewhat worried about how she might handle her responsibilities as president.
EDIT: Original post said referral was to FBI. Title has been corrected

There: I feel a TINY bit better now

Will GOP get 67 Sen seats by 2018? If so.. Impeachment 2019.

You mean that she's
not off the hook with Bernie's endorsement?
Our village and town are so small that we don't have a village idiot or a town drunk. Nope, we all take turns.
Same DOJ that's totally in Clinton pockets?
Don't expect them to do one single goddamn thing except weasel-word their way out of it.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
If Comey did come back and say that charges were warranted
for Perjury and they did nothing wouldn't that then allow the Republicans to move to impeach/Recall?
I don't see the Republicans letting go of this easily and even if the DOJ ignored the evidence it will still be out there in public.
Her campaign is doomed regardless, things like this dampen turnout significantly and she has nothing to blame but her own corruption.
They are gonna feel it on the down ballot too...

Sure, this is GOP grandstanding
But recall how much GOP voters hate her. They will vote against her no matter what. That is a good start for a victory total.
Now add in all of the defections from the Democratic Party now that Hillary has gotten Bernie's endorsement, and add in all those independents who were waiting to see how the conventions turned out. After all the enthusiasm Bernie generated, many will now turn to Jill Stein (as I will), find someone else to vote for (even Drumpf), or sit it out. Continuing to push the email server scandal will add to these numbers.
If recent Rasmussen Polling can be trusted enough to indicate more widespread trends (and I don't believe they can), Hillary's lead over Drumpf is within the margin of error. He could win. Down ballot races will be affected according to who remains motivated enough to turn out to vote. It may not take much after Comey's comments to sway the undecided away from HER!
The outcome is not clear. Drumpf remains his own version of Hillary and can affect the GOP just as much. There is no way to know with certainty who really wins even after the voting is done.
But what we can know for certain: Hillary is no longer inevitable.

The US Attorneys will hand it off to the FBI
...and Comey is on record about these issues to some degree already. Whether or not she INTENDED to lie should not be a disqualifying issue in this case.

I watched about 45 minutes of the Lynch testimony
She never answered a thing, Dems on the committee were grandstanding wusses. A friend commented that if she was asked her name, she would have referred them to her birth certificate.

I would wager nothing happens before the election, certainly
not before the convention. Sigh.

Seems more like a publicity stunt.
I'd contrast this effort with the U.S. Attorney's scandal in 2007 where the Dems sent detailed letters to the AG, the DOJ and White House Counsel highlighting specific issues.
The GOP House members make some general claims, but they don't even bother to go to the trouble to highlight specific inconsistencies. It's a one page letter. No exhibits? Nothing?
Seems they could have found some areas to highlight given Clinton's extensive Congressional testimony. It's either laziness or incompetence. If these people with a heavy investment in a Clinton impeachment aren't willing to do the work, what are the odds that people in the FBI are going to waste their time on this issue?
I'm sure if someone really wanted to do some digging they could find serious issues with the Clinton Foundation using subpoena power -- that's where I suspect there are problems -- but these people in the GOP show up to the office fewer than 200 days out of the year and work 3 day weeks on those rare occasions when they do show up. That won't cut it. They are lazy and incompetent. You can say plenty of things about the Clintons and their allies, but lazy isn't one of them.
This IS a public letter, yeah, for the public
We know not if there is a classified one as well.
They've hated her a long, long, long time. They may be smarter than they appear. Southerners, especially tend to be discrete and do not tip their hands in public.
