Cartoon: Les Beastiables -- Presidential Candidate and Senator Marco Rubioceros!

Les Beastiables ("Les Bez"): Beasties say the darnedest things!

Today's Beastiable is Senator Marco Rubio. He has said several beastly things, yet is considered a front runner for the Republican nomination for President. Thus he has earned his turn as one of Les Beastiables.

Marco Rubio has an out-of-character aversion to marijuana; because of prison company donations?

NOTE FOR NEW READERS: This series features a new Les Beastiables cartoon here on caucus99percent every Friday afternoon/evening. We indulge in a little Franglish because the French are tres classy. But I digresse.

According to the Washington Post, the for-profit prison lobby is very large and Marco Rubio has been one of the biggest beneficiaries. The amount of influence they have gained over him is pretty appalling.

In an interview with Hugh Hewitt, Senator Rubio said the following:

HH: Now I want to switch to domestic policy, Senator Rubio. A lot of people are criticizing the President for not enforcing the immigration laws. He’s also not enforcing the drug laws in Colorado and Washington State. If you’re the president, will you enforce the federal drug laws and shut down the marijuana trade?

MR: Yes. Yes, I think, well, I think we need to enforce our federal laws. Now do states have a right to do what they want? They don’t agree with it, but they have their rights. But they don’t have a right to write federal policy as well. It is, I don’t believe we should be in the business of legalizing additional intoxicants in this country for the primary reason that when you legalize something, what you’re sending a message to young people is it can’t be that bad, because if it was that bad, it wouldn’t be legal.

Funny how on any issue that doesn't affect the prison population, Republicans are all in support of states' rights. As just one example:

In a quick interview with MSNBC this morning, Marco Rubio said he believes the states should have the right to define marriage as they choose.

Please join me in my mission to expose the stupid and ugly in our public figures. Beastliness remembered is beastliness held accountable. Your cringeage may vary. Please feel free to discuss.

As promised, just for fun is a photo of a baby rhino. They're cute, for rhinos; and apparently their moms are willing to tolerate quite a bit!

Baby rhino in charge

A couple questions for discussion: Is there any legitimate reason for federal interference in state marijuana laws? And what can we do to fix the for-profit prison problem?
