Assange situation about to come to an end

Six days ago Julian Assange, apparently frustrated by being cut off from the outside world for months, made a mistake.

Julian Assange is suing Ecuador’s government for violating his “fundamental rights and freedoms”, despite the fact he is still being sheltered in the country’s UK embassy.

The move comes several months after Ecuador cut off communications for Mr Assange, and just days after it emerged it has set new house rules for the WikiLeaks founder, including a ban on making political statements.

Ecuador, under new neoliberal management, then proceeded to wash their hands of Assange.

Ecuador does not plan to intervene with the British government on behalf of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in talks over his situation as an asylee in the South American country’s London embassy, Ecuador’s foreign minister said on Tuesday.
...
“Ecuador has no responsibility to take any further steps,” Valencia said. “We are not Mr. Assange’s lawyers, nor are we representatives of the British government. This is a matter to be resolved between Assange and Great Britain.”

The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment after normal business hours.

Greg Barns, an Australian lawyer advising Assange, said in an email that “developments in the case in recent times” showed the need for Australia’s government to intervene to assist “one of its citizens who faces real danger.”

That's significant, but what makes it more significant is the new promise from the UK.

The United Kingdom told Ecuador in August that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange would not be extradited if he left the country’s London embassy, where he has lived under asylum since 2012, Ecuador’s top government attorney said on Thursday.

In a written response to queries from Ecuador, the UK explained that it had not received any extradition request, and said Assange’s jail time in the UK for violating bail terms by seeking refuge in the embassy would not exceed six months, Iñigo Salvador, who represents the Ecuadorean government in court proceedings, told reporters.

Salvador said Ecuador passed on the UK’s response to Assange’s lawyers, but noted that if Assange stayed in the embassy Ecuador would put new conditions on his stay.

“Mr. Assange had a choice between turning himself in to British authorities with those assurances, or staying in the embassy of Ecuador, but given that the asylum had lasted six years with no signs of immediate resolution we were going to place certain rules,” Salvador said at a news conference.

That sounds like the UK giving Ecuador political cover if they decide to toss Assange out.

"mistake" it was. His situation is and has been precarious, at best, so it was only a matter of time before something moved the needle. What will be the outcome? What impact will that outcome have on him? On us? Will it be a tipping point? What will the tipping point be? Interesting times ahead. Pleasantry

Assange and they talk about a TED talk that he gave in 2010. They make some excellent points about the way he was seen as a hero when he was outing the bush/cheney bunch but not so much when he started revealing Barack Obama’s dirty secrets. They (our rulers and their rulers and the msm) really went nuts when he Wki’d the Clinton/DNC emails. Even the press turned on him. But they make a great point. He’s only doing the same thing now that he was doing when hey got his standing ovation at the TED talk in 2010. He’s providing news and information that the public is entitled to have but the government and the shadowy figures behind it hide from us. And he had released more ‘classified’ information than the rest of the media combined. That is what makes him so hated by those pulling the strings and the msm. He’s given us more information that has been kept from us while the msm hides it or lies. It’s a great video and after watching it you understand (if you hadn’t before) what makes him do ‘dangerous’ and hated.

I can’t believe how long he’s been isolated. It’s the people trying to punish him that really should be locked up.

leaving out the operative term "yet". Any bets that once he was in custody (maybe a month or two to let it drop out of the media) the Brits would be honoring an "out of the blue" extradition request from the USA?

@MichaelSF
And probably the most likely scenario.

OTOH, the UK may also just want to put this behind them while saving face with a few months of jail time. They've spent tens of millions on security.

I'd feel better if Corbyn was PM.

It is astounding the world has allowed this to happen. The whole thing has shown how everyone from Sweden and the U.K., to Australia espeically and Ecuador (not to mention 175 other countries in the world) all have to play the Imperialists hand and game. We are the despicible hypocritical bullies on the world stage. At that we are exceptional.

It is scary to me, Julian is a hero amongst heroes. There should be statues, he should be on stamps. I can't imagine being in Julian's shoes. The lawsuit thing I just don't think was a good idea considering the change in Ecuador's government and obvious U.S. pressure on them to hand him over to Bloody Gina Haspell. Seems poking the hornet's nest. He has to be frustrated beyond our understanding though. I thought the same about his Spain politicizing. Under the circumstances this might not be prudent.

Dog save Julian Assange from the neocons and neolibs of the USA.
And F Obama and Hillary for letting this happen, and Trump for not fixing it.
Obviously they are all puppets for their masters and money.
