Arthritis Relief

With all the changes in the weather my arthritis has been acting up a lot. I have found something that may help arthritis sufferers. I took 1/4 cup of light olive oil and placed it in a small frypan. I added 3 tablespoons of minced fresh ginger root and 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes. I brought it to a simmer and let it cook for 30 minutes. I poured the mixture into a container and let it cool. I've rubbed the mixture onto my hands and elbows which have been really swollen with arthritis lately. I've noticed that the swelling is down and the pain has really subsided for the first time in months. If you are allergic to capsaicin leave out the red pepper flakes.

An anti-inflammatory and super anti-oxidant. Best price is at the place with the red concentric logo.

Great for the skin, so not surprised to hear it has other benefits.

Almost yearning for the days of strigils and hot tubs at this point. Smile

especially in the heat of the day if on the skin. It is fantastic on the skin, no doubt. I rub some onto my elbows while cooking. No waste.

But as I state below, I use coconut oil for my beauty, cooking and medicinal needs. I use Nutiva (just got some at costco) and you can get it refined or unrefined. Unrefined, doesn't smell like coconut.

I try to avoid using vegetable oil, or corn oil. (Even works in cakes, but you have to adjust baking temperature and times because other wise it burns FAST.)

So many things one can do with coconut oil. It's a pretty amazing item.

BTW & OT, sweet ink you got there. Smile I finally got rid of my snarly red ruby lips and went with my own mugshot taken the other day at the Portland Bud Tenders Appreciation Ball. Yeah... my life is kinda strange. Biggrin

Got it done here in Portland at the New Rose as one of the first things I did. (Haven't got ink since the Army, and wanted one that fit with the direction my life was going.)

Have been thinking when I can of finishing the sleeve with some knotwork as well as getting a few more Goddesses. (I like the Hellenic Pantheon, although I am still considering a few of the Celtic Goddesses. Not the Norse though, because 1. It's not my ethnicity, and 2. Not my personal Favorite Mythology.)

And LOVE your picture. Still think we need to have a C99 Portland meetup, because there's a LOT of us.

I remember reading this essay a while back and agree that coconut oil is great for cooking, skin, etc. and have used it for years. My daughter (the pro-chef and nutritionist) just posted this on her FB page and thought you might get a laugh out of it.

it's a natural anti-inflammatory. Use a double boiler instead and if you added some food grade melted beeswax, you'd get a nice salve.

It's what I used to make my medical marijuana balm.... cannabis is also an anti-inflammatory and it helps with my arthritis - not just pain but with mobility and because of hard work and lots of action -it's not illegal or ruins lives in my state.

Yoga helps a lot, too.

Be careful of those chilies - once that gets near your face... ouch. Best of luck.

is DMSO, medical grade. If you get the aloe stuff, fine, it helps with some folks whose skin is easily irritated. If not, take 70% of the DMSO and add 30% distilled water. Spray or wipe on, and rub til it disappears. Which happens very quickly. It keeps pain away, with only one side effect. In some folks their breath takes on a garlic odor.

I find it very effective.

oh so you just use the DMSO? I've heard of people adding it to their salve/balm/lotion recipes to help penetrate the skin better. I'll check it out, thanks Biggrin

A drop on the skin penetrates instantly, a weird taste in mouth seconds later. I assume instant blood hit there. Proving that humans have a circulatory system, we are alive! I believe that DMSO as a solvent has been used to migrate many compounds across the skin. Like androgens. Be very careful, many toxic compounds could fly in.

Anyone who has had general anesthesia recently gets warned of mouth tastes as drugs pour in.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

I use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil for everything cooked to raw. Fro high heat cooking I use ghee. Hemp oil in smoothies has helped my joints and my skin, excema. I love the hemp shade of green. My skin goes crazy in the seasonal changes and hemp oil and olive oil both really help. I've also found the most effective chili pepper for inflammatory conditions to be habaneros. Thanks Damnit Janet I'm going to try the coconut oil beeswax. Great to see you posting here! Love your picture. Are you still working for the local friendly progressive store? lol.

No. I QUIT them after ten years. Many others have, too. It's no longer progressive. We made it a huge success and they are just riding on reputation now. Sad

Good to see you hear, too. There's a few of us Portlanders here. Biggrin
