Album of the Week - 2-12-22
Submitted by joe shikspack on Sat, 02/12/2022 - 3:00pm
Afternoon folks!
This week I have three playlists for you. There's more Chuck Berry. There's the part of a more than 50 year old Al Green album that some alleged copyright holder says is okay for people to listen to, and there's an Animals album.
Enjoy!

heh, when i upload them to youtube they are 24bit/192k vinyl rips, youtube degrades them some, but they still sound pretty good - or at least pretty good for the old records that have been following me around for 60 years or more.
thanks for listening!
Gettin' ripped on vinyl, you say? Worse things

i certainly know some people who've gotten ripped on stuff worse than vinyl.
have a great weekend!
Hi Joe,
Thank you! Good stuff.
Also, I'm curious about the intro statement: "the part of a more than 50 year old Al Green album that some alleged copyright holder says is okay for people to listen to."
Cory Doctorow had a bit that I read recently on newer scams used by copyright trolls ("copyleft" in this case), some folks just can't seem to do honest work to make ends meet it seems...
If I was publishing works on the internets I would look into this further. I'm not, so I won't just yet, but I thought you might be interested. I suspect this is new to me and not to you and others, but if not, take a look.
And hey, bass lines on "I put a spell on you" coming through nicely. Thanks again.
evening peachcreek...
i suppose that i am mostly grumbling.
as a preface, there's this: there was a time when a copyright for music lasted 28 years and could be renewed once. then disney and a bunch of other "content owner" corporations fished their fat wallets out of their pockets and stuffed congress full and, tah-dah! copyrights now last far longer than that. congress also, to their credit, created the fair use doctrine. unfortunately they left fleshing out what it really means to the courts.
so anyway, in my view, copyright lifetimes should be shortened to less absurd lengths and fair use doctrine ought to be fleshed out to allow people to share significantly older works on public platforms without hearing from middleman corporations allegedly representing artists and the recording industry.
anyway, glad you're enjoying the music, take care!
