I like the light/shadow and textural contrasts - and that it's a close-up that still looks so candid.

This one was 'homework' for a workshop based project that I took awhile ago. I am still not sure how I feel about this shot tbh.

I almost got up the nerve to ask the man in the orange sweatshirt if I could photograph him more closely. Maybe next time. My friend whose passion is photographing people has no problem asking when she finds something interesting in someone. She's a very talented photographer and has taken some of the most interesting portraits I've seen.

I don't think I'll ever be comfortable doing it tbh. Really like the second one especially - strong composition, the rod/pole? leads the eye towards the distant rock.

At the back of the ballpark where people can watch the game for free.
I don't have many pictures with people in them because I focus on landscape photography.

The guy in the photo is Cruz who dropped a fly ball during the World Series when the Giants were on the verge of winning it.
But since he dropped it, the other team won that game and then the next one.
People were wondering if he did it on purpose.

Didn't realize that it was possible to watch games for free.

And had a doctor in Marin. The traffic was horrible so my copilot Bailey and I would find all types of places to go waiting to go home later. We'd go to Muir beach, Stinson beach or I'd take a road to somewhere and end up lost, but took a lot of great photos.
At the back of the park there was a place where people could watch the game. Pretty cool.
I'd give anything to be able to move back to the Bay Area or Marin country. But it's so expensive.
On my website I have a lot of photos from my time in California. I have two photos of the San Francisco skyline, but they were taken with my first camera that didn't have a good zoom. I'd love to go back with my digital SLR and the 29-300 lense. Plus I want to get a 2x television extender, but no $.
I am keeping my Pentax film camera because I have a 400 lense and a 3x telex tender. The photos of the day eagles were taken with it.
I'm enjoying your series but I don't do macros, buildings or people

was to stay in the Midwest and not move out to the West Coast. A few years ago it was 50/50 but then (good) family stuff happened, money got a bit tight and we made a decision to stay put. We do have Lake Michigan and the dunes and there are some good landscape photos to be had there . I like it in winter, very alien looking but also very cold - like 30 seconds out of the car grab a few shots and back in again.

Regarding subject matter I am an generalist and in some ways the actual subject matter is not always the most important thing. To me photography is a way of seeing that can be applied to just about anything. Saying that, I am planning to do a post on landscape photography but I want to take some fresh pictures first - I don't spend much on photography equipment (relatively speaking) but I did treat my self to a new ultra wide Tokina efl 16 -24mm a few months back. I needed it for interiors and architecture but really want to try it out on some landscapes.

My longest lens currently is a 75mm - 300mm efl which means that if I am doing bird or nature photography I tend to have to crop in post production. Not ideal but with 20mp sensors high quality big prints can still be had. If a 5mp photo is good enough this gives me an effective reach of 600mm. Not as useful as your Pentax and 1200mm!

I have done very few portraits in my time as a photographer. This one of my daughter, ten years ago, is my favourite. It was hand held at low light, and I have always thought it captures the questioning, and uncertain state of adolescence.

doing photography. Started with my boss's used Yashica and then got a Pentax ME and different lenses.
I wrote about how I felt about digital cameras in yesterday's photo diary if you're interested.
I have done a few weddings, but I am more interested in scenic photography, not people.
The picture I put in here is one of the few I have with people in it.

and my experience has been similar. I worked for some time as a custom b&w printer and had my own makeshift darkroom until 5 years ago. I resisted digital at first, but then grew to appreciate it. I think it's also a great teaching tool, sort of like polaroid was in its immediacy. I loved the SX70, and learned a lot from it, and those SX70s are still as vibrant as ever. It's great to see what you're doing as you go. It was also very exciting to expose a roll, take it home to develop, the whole time anticipating what will be there. It's like magic.

on the California coast, south of Half Moon Bay. The hole-riddled rock is called 'tafoni' https://www.google.com/search?q=tafoni&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&v... There is also a swath of southern California granite there that migrated up the coast along the San Andreas, polished glassy smooth by the waves. It's a heck of an interesting beach. Hardly any people. Usually kind of cold.

(hope that's okay, Bollox Ref!) and changed it to black and white. The ground was surprisingly dark and increased contrast made it worse, plus made the sky too light. But it really made the figures pop, brought out the shapes and made them the most important subjects in the field, IMO. I still like the color better, I think, but maybe this is interesting?
