Because We Are Afraid. Ignorant. In Denial. And Because I Wanna Ramble.
Let's just be honest about the situation regarding this electoral clusterfuck: Democratic voters support Hillary Clinton because they're afraid, well, mostly. They're afraid that unless Clinton wins, the Supreme Court will be stacked full of wingnuts who will destroy everything. But what's there to destroy at this point? The Repigs and the Dems have both had their hand in this destruction of the commons for decades.
They know it. So do their donors, and so do their talking heads. They just don't want us lay people to figure it out. So they keep us good and scared, and a few of us even bully the ones who step out of line, at least, that's how it works with the Ds and Rs. The ever-more-aggressive behavior at TOP since Super Tuesday should be enough evidence for that.
Even as a lifelong NPA, I voted with the Dems because the Repigs scared the shit out of me. Libertarians were even worse, at least in the context of American politics. Those guys are completely honest about wanting to give Wall Street the keys to the treasury. Ds and Rs wanna do it too, but they don't really tell you that until there's already a smoking gun. But the reason they didn't scare me one single bit is because they don't have the strangle hold over the electorate like the Democrats and Republicans do.
We've denied this for years, but what has it gotten us to 'Vote Blue No Matter Who'? Not much. We got a health care plan with a gutted public option and medicaid expansion because the 'Blue' refused to stand up and fight for those. Sure, the medicaid expansion evisceration was due to an activist supreme court, but I digress. We got continuation of tax breaks that are robbing this country blind and in some cases, like the Bush Tax Cuts, they were made permanent.
We also got more trade agreements, more micro-wars for profit, more education privatization and more needless testing, more Social Security and Medicare cuts via the Catfood Commission...the list goes on and on regarding how we've all been stabbed in the back. That's why at TOP, I often referred to our two party system as little more than good cop/bad cop extortion. These days, the Dems are running on a platform of little more than 'Hey, you see those guys over there? Well, if you don't vote for us, they're gonna take what's left'. That's just the kind of crap we can't afford to be afraid of anymore.
One of the big reasons I refuse to get behind Hillary Clinton is because to do so would be to give in to that fear. A fear I no longer want any part of. A fear that I let go of momentarily when I voted for Ralph Nader in 2008 after seeing Obama race the Republicans right off a cliff. A fear I felt when I saw that Mitt Romney was a blatant sociopath who only cared about his giant golden money towers. I wanted to vote for Jill Stein so bad but didn't because I was scared of what might happened had Romney actually won.
I'm not going to make the same mistake again. I refuse to fall for the 'Vote Blue No Matter Who' nonsense, because that IS giving up. If Sanders loses, I'm backing Jill Stein in the general because she represents my values far better than Hillary Clinton EVER will.
The Democratic and Republican Parties can be fruitful and multiply with sharp sticks for all I care. I'm not going to play their game of good cop/bad cop extortion anymore. That being said, I'll gladly support folks down ballot who support things similar to Sanders or Stein because there's too much at stake to do otherwise.
See ya around,
Aspie

"I'm not going to play their game of good cop/bad cop extortion"
If only more people felt that way, we could be seeing the emergence of a third party that can challenge the Dems and GOP. The only problem would be that any effort to get rid of Citizens United by Democrats will go right out the window. They certainly wouldn't want a viable third party to rise up to challenge the good cop/bad cop-status quo.
That effort was gone the moment HRC was enshrined...
as nominee after Obama's re-election. I guess it's possible some of the down-ballot folks could get it started again, but I have very little hope for that.

Let's dispense with the fiction
That HRC has any real intention of overturning Citizens United. She is playing her supporters for suckers and they are entirely oblivious as they play right along. Clinton has no argument against CU and neither do her supporters, which is why I find it so damn funny when they declare that we have to get rid of CU and that Clinton, simply because she tells THEM she intends to do it, is actually serious about it.
As that redneck comedian might say, here's your sign.
They so conveniently ignore the fact that Clinton is currently defending her acceptance of obscene speaking fees from big banks by using the very same right wing argument that WON in CU! And her supporters parrot right along with her, sometimes in the same breath as statements about getting rid of CU.
Clinton and her supporters, her supporters apparently without even realizing it, have effectively neutralized their own arguments against CU! They have no argument left against it.
This suggests that when HRC pulls the switcheroo on getting rid of CU, her supporting rubes will follow right along with her parroting the very same intellectually dishonest arguments and chastising all us DFHs for not toeing the party line.
It is as predictable as it is depressing.

Finally, the ascension of fear is failing.
For that, I am forever hopeful.
Going Green in California
Votes have been pointless in California for decades. The voting percentage for off Presidential years are around 25%.
As one Cali blog put it: Where's My Democratic Party?

Florida is the same, more or less.
And our gubernatorial elections are in the mid-terms so it's almost always a clusterfuck. I don't think we've had a Democratic governor in decades.

Good cop/bad cop isn't a game
It's the truth. An ex congress member told Amy Goodman that the parties take turns being in charge. And you can see that it's true. How else to explain why the GOP was back in power in 4 years when they should have been decimated after what they did during the Bush administration?
Obama kept working with them knowing damned well that they weren't going to work with him. They told him that. And he didn't pre cave to their demands. He basically let them set his agenda.
Look at how bad the democrats ran their campaigns during the last election. They ran shitty candidates or ran shitty campaigns.
DWS even supported the republican candidates over decent democratic ones.
And she still has her job. Why? Because it gave Obama a republican congress so he could continue to hide behind GOP obstruction.
He didn't even try to pass a decent health care plan. He was awol during the whole debacle except for when he was working with the insurance and pharmaceutical companies giving them everything they wanted.
People lost their health insurance and had to buy into his shitty plan and now they've seen their premiums and deductibles go so high that they are paying more and getting less.
The democrats let the GOP water down the bill while hiding behind the excuse that they were trying to get them to vote for it knowing damned well that they wouldn't. Then they gave it to Baucus who let Liz fowler from WellPoint write this bill.
And the Supreme Court threat should be over after Obama submitted Garland when there were better candidates available.
Then there's the use of drones, the invasions of Libya and Syria which has seen hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians killed or displaced and not a word from most progressives.
Kabuki theater only.
It's too bad that people can't, don't, won't see it.
