The Hillary Corruption Has Already Taken Hold

An article in today's Huffington Post illustrates the direct effect Hill's "donated" $millions to the DNC superPAC have in destroying all credibility that Democrats are the people's party. President Obama has been pushing Big Pharma to lower drug prices as a last ditch effort before he leaves office. But there's a lot of "sympathy" in Congress for the poor drug companies who are mounting a pushback campaign against Obama. Are they Republicans? No, they're Democrats, who are very very concerned about the unintended consequences of lowering drug prices. Nancy Pelosi is leading the leading critic. Ceheck out the article at:

Obama is pushing TPP which will make it close to impossible to lower drug prices. TPP extends the patent system and brings other countries under its thumb. Other countries will not be able to manufacture and distribute generics until the lengthened patent runs out.

As Dean Baker of CEPR points out, there are more efficient and much cheaper alternatives to this patent system.

Obama is not making a serious effort here. It's PR BS., in my view.

The Pubs are fighting, too. While we can fault Hillary for cashing in whatever humanity she might ever have possessed, Congress folks are awful all by themselves. This doesn't point to Clinton as being particularly craven as much as it indicates that both parties are colluding to create a thriving fascist state.

Disgusted, but unfortunately, not surprised.

Don't know if I'd call it Hillary corruption, though. They've all been taking the money and trying to slide through being "not as bad" as Repubs for many, many years now. Sigh.

Remember the xl pipeline she claims to oppose? Well apparently she forgot to tell her co-president.

Bill Clinton: 'Embrace' Keystone XL

Speaking at an Energy Department conference in Maryland on Wednesday, the former president said he was surprised the project has gotten as gummed up as it has, laying the blame on pipeline builder TransCanada.
Story Continued Below

"One of the most amazing things to me about this Keystone pipeline deal is that they ever filed that route in the first place since they could've gone around the Nebraska Sandhills and avoided most of the dangers, no matter how imagined, to the Ogallala [aquifer] with a different route, which I presume we'll get now, because the extra cost of running is infinitesimal compared to the revenue that will be generated over a long period of time," he said.
"So, I think we should embrace it and develop a stakeholder-driven system of high standards for doing the work," Clinton added.

It's a great doc too btw, particularly if you are a fan of Stand Up and know the origins of the whole tradition and whatnot.

But back to my main point, I listen to a lot of Stand Up's podcasts and such and they are a group we should be courting to join our movement.

By and large they tend to support progressive ideals and they have incredible wit and ability to illustrate the ludicrous nature of our situation and if we can get them to be active members of the movement they can be a powerful force.

I think we should consider as we move forward reaching out to various members of the comedy community and try to get them to become activists in the cause.

A scathing tongue and quick wit is a tremendous weapon to wield against the corrupt.

Plus, it helps in growing our numbers just due to basic human psychology, most people find it uncomfortable being a member of a group that is subject to constant righteous ridicule. Smile

And as duckpin wrote, the TPP will make it all mute anyway.
And people wonder why Bernie's ideas were so popular.
TOP is unbearable except for OPOL and BNR.
I'm going to ask one of Hillary's supporters what they think she will do to 'try' to bring peace to the Middle East.
Again some one wrote in Kos's diary last night that Obama has ended two wars and hasn't started any new ones.
I didn't let that stand, but how does one deal with that type of blindness?

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

A good question and I think all one can do is recognize it for what it is, rebut if you feel like it, and generally both ignore the source and try to get on with your life. It's not easy.

It's depressing how greed trumps learning and how easily people can be herded into irrational acts and "reasoning."

I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute ..., where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference. — President John F. Kennedy, Houston, TX, 12 September 1960

I don’t like doing this. I try to avoid meta, but Kos’s diary this morning cuts to the heart of what is a double standard for Hillary and her supporters that is fundamentally wrong and animated by a core of sexism that is unacceptable.

Hillary hasn’t won anything? She’s all-but locked up the nomination in a hotly contested primary. She is the first woman in history to do so. She’s done so despite being outspent, despite a hostile media, despite slander and smears coming at her from the left and the right.

Not even Kos is immune from this. Even in writing a diary where he implores both sides to chill out and wait till the end of the Democratic primary (despite his Ides of March edict), he gets called out by Hillbots for sexism because any sort of criticism about Hillary—or failing to validate her supporters preconceived notions about their candidate—is sexist.

Electioneering 101.
When they want to appear like they are on the side of the commoners, they raise some progressive issue. Behind the scenes they decide which congress critters will vote progressive, and which ones will block the bill (usually scum bags that are not up for re-election soon). They count the votes and make sure it will not pass and upset their corporate masters.

In related news, back in Dec 2015

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D., Vt.) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D., Md.) had sent a letter to Mylan requesting information about pricing information for several drugs, including doxycycline.
...
In December 2014, BioPharma Dive ran a feature story focusing on the increased prices of certain generics, highlighting the most extreme cases. One of those cases was the exponential increase in the price of 50-year old doxycycline. At that point, the cost of a 100-mg dose of doxycycline had increased from 6.3 cents per pill, to $3.36 per pill.

Sorry, Lyme disease patients, you'll either pay up or STFU and die. It's the Neo-liberal way.

I've had Lyme Disease 3 times now and the thing that impressed me most was how much better you felt just 24 hours after the 1st dose of Doxycycline, and how inexpensive it was...

The last time I was shocked at the price, and didn't have enough cash on me to get it...
I had to rob the bank and go back later...

about 5 years. Colchicine is used to treat gout all over the world. It's been available without FDA approval for a 200 years. One of the producers decided they would run a 6 month study and get FDA approval. They day they got approval they filed lawsuits against the other 3 producers for selling a non-approved version of the drug. They also raised the price from about $.03/pill to $5.00/pill. Two of the other producers decided to quit manufacturing and the other agreed to raise their price $5.00.

This should be a criminal offense and these price gougers should be thrown in jail. Sadly, there are hundreds of drugs that have been widely used for decades that never received FDA approval. Eventually, big pharma plans to do the same thing they did with Colchicine and do it with all these other drugs. Capitalism in our country is completely out of control.

... it was a generic, first written about 3,500 years ago, so safe dosage known. After fake DEA testing, getting exclusive marketing and profits for three years (must be extended, they're still getting profits), US law saying no one can eve make the generic while they have marketing exclusivity (see Hatch-Waxman Act), making it purple by adding red and blue food dye and changing the shape to a teeny-tiny oval, it is now $4.85 per pill...! AND, now the same company produces BOTH the generic and the regular drug, same little purple pill, only there's no co-pay for the "generic" version (i.e., about $435.++/prescription vs $6.60/co-pay).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colchicine#History
Hatch-Waxman Act sounds a lot like the exclusivity in TPP, minus the three-corporation panel that can over-ride any country's laws and justice system.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_Price_Competition_and_Patent_Term_Res...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_exemption

With or without TPP, the Hatch-Waxman Act makes sure pharmaceutical corporations make a VERY hefty profit!

Oh, the reason I know about Colchicine and the drug snafubar is because I suffer from gout and I also have a very good pharmacist who warned me several years ago that this was coming up so I could get my prescription refilled the number of times approved by the dr. before the ban for generic Colchicine went into effect. I only take it when an attack comes on, have a different anti-gout maintenance drug to take daily. Like Digitalis which is from the foxglove plant, Colchicine is from the autumn crocus - Ben Franklin, who also suffered from gout, brought it to the US - in large doses it's fatal, and in small doses it's a medicine.
