Friday Night Photos Holiday Hodge Podge Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.

Happy Holiday season everyone. With all the talk in the open threads the last few days about the meals being planned for yesterday I trust everybody got enough to eat. Hope you all had a wonderful day with family and friends.

Due to being under the weather last week and inclement weather this week, it's been a while since I got out with the camera so tonight is a mix of a few new photos, a few leftovers from previous outings and a few recycled (previously posted) photos.

I’m glad to hear you're out from under the weather and have an extra week to rest. I’m glad your weather isn’t severe.

Thank you for the variety and wonder of your images. I enjoyed the Greg lake song and video as well.

I will follow your lead and post some from the archive that reflect the the colour and stillness, light and dark of the season …

Happy and healthy holidays all

I hope you're enjoying the holidays. Thanks for your photo hodge podge. That sunset is beautiful. I don't know what that is in the second shot, but I love the shapes and colors.

The objects are a short set of streamers around a small ceramic cup my sister gave me.

The sunset was from the lookout of the area I live in on an evening around this time of year.

Getting our second snow of the season.
The white blanket mellows out the harshness
of the bare trees and browned grass.

The un-named pic of a tree dripping lights
and sea horses is wondrous. Draws the ocular
synapse to the setting in a very pleasant way.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks!

You have a much better way of saying "colored lights at night are cool" than me. My oldest daughter who lives near Albany New York said it's been really cold there (low teens) but no snow.

I absolutely love that Murry Head tune. I've never been to Thailand (missed a port call there by 2 weeks) but I did get to a few nearby areas, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines while I was in the navy.

@Socialprogressive @Socialprogressive I did spend a few days and nights in in Thailand, and Bangkok was exciting. I bought traditional elephant print pants and a tunic from a street vendor that I still wear when the mood strikes me to go back in time. I just read a headline that said Thailand has reached an agreement with Cambodia. I went there, also. Enjoyed it immensely!
Maybe they will stop killing each other for now.
Happy New Year for them and for all of us!

If the US wasn't meddling in Thailand's affairs big time it would be a country I would consider moving to if I ever bailed on the US.

@Socialprogressive lived there for years while he taught at the veterinary college in Bangkok. He loved it, begged me to come visit and go exploring.
It should be strongly considered as an ex-pat country.

I've heard this story reported in the South Korean media for a few months now. Just for general information.

Seoul eases travel advisory for Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, keeps restrictions in high-risk regions

SEOUL - South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Dec 4 that it has adjusted some travel advisories for Cambodia, lowering the alert level for the capital Phnom Penh and further easing guidance for regions including Siem Reap.

With effect from 4pm, the ministry lifted the special travel advisory for Phnom Penh, downgrading it to Level 2. Regions currently at Level 2, including Siem Reap, have been further lowered to Level 1.

The authorities said the adjustment reflects improvements in public safety, particularly in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, following Cambodia’s intensified crackdown on scam-related crime and enhanced bilateral cooperation through the South Korea-Cambodia Joint Task Force.

While advisory levels for Phnom Penh and Siem Reap have been lowered, the ministry maintained stricter advisories for several high-risk areas: the Bokor Mountain area in Kampot province, and the border cities of Bavet and Poipet at Level 4, and Sihanoukville province at Level 3.

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/korean-travel-to-south-east-asia-takes-a-hit-amid-cambodia-trafficking-crisis?ref=more-on-this-topic

The sudden pullback follows a wave of disturbing reports in October exposing how young South Koreans lured by false job offers – mostly in tech or digital marketing – were trafficked into scam compounds in Cambodia’s loosely regulated special economic zones.

Once there, victims were allegedly detained, forced to operate online fraud schemes and, in some cases, subjected to violence or sold to other groups.

The impact is spilling beyond Cambodia. The Philippines and Thailand also saw fewer South Korean visitors in October, with departures down 18.9 per cent to 120,175 and 5 per cent to 157,402 respectively.

https://e.vnexpress.net/news/travel/places/are-scams-other-threats-scaring-away-tourists-from-cambodia-4951618.html

Cambodia's reputation has taken a beating in the eyes of South Koreans amid growing concerns over online scams and the disappearance of hundreds of citizens who entered that country.
Between January and August this year alone 330 South Koreans have reportedly gone missing or been abducted after entering Cambodia, AFP reported.

They had mainly been lured to Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville or Bokor with fake job advertisements and large salaries.

In the most recent case a Korean university student who traveled to Phom Penh for an employment fair during his summer break was tortured and killed by a local criminal organization.

@soryang My visit to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar was with a large tour group offered by Gate 1 Travel, the largest and safest tour company of them all. Petty theft was what we guarded against. Imagine a young adult looking for a good job finding themselves enslaved!

Hi OTC!

Traveling with Gate1 is obviously much safer than going alone. Ms. So has used them when she travels, too.

With all the current nonsense about curbing "anti-Americanism" however vaguely characterized, searching electronic devices, giving people a hard time..., an anti-travel consensus is developing among people who ordinarily enjoyed traveling to and from the US quite a bit. But this is just an impression from .my limited perspective.

@soryang now, to get into England, I would have to furnish them my checking account number(s), and they scan all my emails, phone texts, and social media to see if I ever said anything critical of them or Israel before I exit Heathrow. The EU countries are much the same.
The founder and CEO of Gate 1 is a former airline host who is Jewish, likely of dual citizenship. He would not appreciate my thoughts on genocide, no doubt.

...on 59 European citizens. It essentially makes it virtually impossible to survive in civil society. No bank accounts, no financial transactions, no money. It's outrageous, like the over the top searches you describe OtC.

I don't understand how a continent that experienced two world wars, genocide and totalitarianism can go in this direction. How could anyone not remember that terrible past?

@on the cusp Glad my traveling days are pretty much behind me. Really enjoy your images, Sp and jb. Smile I've got One Night in Bangkok somewhere in my music collection. Liked the cynic tinged lyrics: One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble. Sp, hope this finds you totally on the mend. I've been hearing that a lot of people have been getting super sick with the flu, etc. Got my flu and Covid vaccines during my physical last month, RFK, Jr. be damned! Anywho, Happy New Year, FWIW.
