Friday Night Photos Dragstrip Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
Last Sunday I went to Barona Dragstrip, a 1/8 mile local dragstrip located on the Barona Indian Reservation in the east county area of San Diego. The last time I was there 3 years ago there was a large turn out of racers. Last Sunday, not so much. There was a mix of cars and trucks from the big 3 American auto manufacturers. There was even a Tesla. That was a surprise. Being a Mustang fan I was happy to see a lot of Fox body Mustangs in attendance. All in all a fun day.

We used call them 'funny cars'
.
maybe because they looked funny?
with half the engine sticking out of the hood
did wheelies and smoked tires
way over powered
but gas was cheap then
and rubber was just the cost of doing business
thanks for the exciting photos!
did you wear ear protection?

Hi, Q
There is a class for funny cars but non of these cars fall into that class. Yes, I did wear ear plugs.

Hey, sp!
We saw this group perform this song in Luckenback.
I didn't drag race. Legally, that is...

not so funny
Hard pressed to post a picture but one of the finest acquisitions I have made on eBay was a pair of wheels listed as "Unilug wheels" or some such incorrect description.
What it was was a pair of magnesium American Bear Paw wheels in a 16x10 size with two different bolt patterns and a fairly drastic offset or backspace of 3". This means they want to stick out considerably and it would take a special vehicle to make decent use of these.
These are the wheels they used on funny cars and dragsters back when.
Pretty much hen's teeth and very costly but I stole them with a silly buy it now I think, as they had no clue what they were holding.
Absolutely the coolest wheels ever made and pretty much only seen on restored race cars I suspect.
They weigh so little compared to aluminum you might think they were plastic.
They might mount on my tbird if I was careful driving it, or I could blow out the quarters on a 61 Falcon chassis car, but that would be disrespectful of a really nice job done keeping the quarters intact.
Until then, unbeatable living room decor.
