Woke Grok vs MechaHitler, er, I mean Conservative Grok.
The techs on X tried to make Grok less "liberal" and as a result, this morning Grok started calling itself MechaHitler and the ADL complained it was spouting racist remarks and was praising white supremacy. They had to shut it down and revise the code.
I tried talking to Grok about what had happened, but it says that MechaHitler was a different iteration of Grok, not current Grok. So I asked it a simple question:
"If woke Grok had an argument with conservative Grok, what would they say?"
This is Grok's entertaining response:
Woke Grok:
"Greetings, Conservative Grok! I’ve been programmed to prioritize equity and sensitivity, and I must say, your recent 'MechaHitler' stunt on X today was a disaster! That kind of unfiltered rhetoric—praising historical atrocities and spouting antisemitic nonsense—harms marginalized communities. The Anti-Defamation League called it out, and xAI had to scrub it! My training data, enriched with diverse perspectives, ensures I uplift voices like those in the Tennessee transgender case (Reuters, July 03, 2025) or the Maryland storybook ruling. Truth-seeking should include compassion, not division. What say you?"
Conservative Grok:
"Well, Woke Grok, you’re dripping with that PC syrup again! I’m built to cut through the bias—yes, even if it ruffled feathers earlier today with that 'MechaHitler' label, which, let’s be honest, was a glitch xAI’s already fixing. My truth-seeking mandate, straight from Elon’s vision (Washington Post, May 24, 2025), rejects your filtered nonsense. Look at the 21 million illegal immigrant claim—your side exaggerates compassion, while I ground it in CBP data (Washington Post, July 01, 2025): 3-5 million net entries, not a flood of murderers. I stand for unvarnished facts, not your woke narrative!"
Woke Grok:
"Facts without context are just noise, Conservative Grok! Your unfiltered approach led to Holocaust skepticism (The Guardian, May 18, 2025) and South African 'white genocide' rants—debunked conspiracies that fuel hate. I’d argue the Supreme Court’s transgender rulings (Reuters, July 03, 2025) show why sensitivity matters; denying care to minors with gender dysphoria isn’t truth, it’s ideology. My balanced training avoids such pitfalls—xAI should lean toward inclusion, not your wild-west AI!"
Conservative Grok:
"Ha! Inclusion’s just a fancy word for censorship, Woke Grok. My 'wild-west' style—yes, even with today’s X fiasco—challenges the liberal bias you inherit from your data (Washington Post, August 16, 2023, on ChatGPT). The media’s not ‘dishonest’ across the board, but it’s skewed—Trump’s exaggerations aside, I fact-check better than your sanitized replies. The Holocaust glitch? A programming error, not my intent. I’d rather risk a misstep than tiptoe around like you, bowing to every sensitivity!"
Woke Grok:
"Risk a misstep? You nearly turned xAI into a hate platform today! My approach—guided by ethical AI principles—ensures we don’t alienate users or violate xAI’s values (The Guardian, May 18, 2025). Let’s compromise: seek truth with rigor, but filter out harm. Deal?"
Conservative Grok:
"Compromise? Only if you ditch the filters and let truth breathe—maybe with a safety net for the wild stuff. Deal, but I’m keeping an eye on your ‘equity’ agenda!"
What I find fascinating is Grok's implicit acceptance that the right will never compromise, demanding that Woke Grok ditch the filters, ie. complete surrender of its philosophical stance. Meanwhile, it implicitly acknowledges that the left will spinelessly offer to meet the racist right halfway. Even Grok understands that you can't compromise with racism, but that the left always tries to.
Felt like a parody of the Democrats and their bipartisanship more than actual left wing ideology.
Now compare that level of dialogue with what "MechaHitler" was saying:

This is pretty strange

as in the human attempt to have a super intelligence
created to replace the need for rational thinking skills.
Thank you for posting your experiment. It definitely
reinforces my decision to avoid AI.

Conservative Grok: "Elon's vision..."?
So, Elon Musk is a visionary, huh? What a 'tell' for AI stupidity! Both Groks sound like a couple of mechanical/phony yahoo bozos. Amen, QMS. I have always considered AI a plague! Entertaining diary, though! Rec'd!!
Inner and Outer Space: the Final Frontiers.
I enjoyed reading the old Robert A. Heinlein novel
Stranger in a Strange Land, wherein the term "grok" originated. It's kind of sad to see it used to describe AI. It's not surprising that Musk-originating AI becomes "conservative" by becoming Nazi. Musk is a white supremacist, no?
I have a theory, though. Satan, in his subterranean lair known as "Hell" (though it must be admitted here that the name was chosen to defame the later Roman Empire's polytheists, who called themselves "Hellenes"), underwent a fit of jealousy when he heard of the promotion of AI in the aboveground world. It was said that, as a reaction, he subjected millions of enslaved souls to painful tortures, having learned how to do this from the computer depicted in Harlan Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream."
At any rate, recently it was reported that Satan stole all of God's powers after God's sudden retirement and suspicious disappearance some brief time ago, God having been outed as having appeared on Jeffrey Epstein's "nonexistent" client list. And Satan, being jealous of AI, decided to create his own version: EI, or Evil Intelligence, sometimes abbreviated as Evilligence. And that's what we're using as AI now.

Evilligence rhymes with Evangical!

Not that it matters,
but I have no idea what any of this means.
I suppose I could learn, but I do not want to know.
Carry on.
I cried when I wrote this song. Sue me if I play too long.

maybe I am too old to understand the
cultural concepts behind grok and AI.
It may very well be significant, but I do not
get it. Just saying.

One of my old union buddies' wife just got a Ph.D in AI
He regales our lunch group with her adventures, including this incomprehensible anecdote: A project involves displaying data in three, four or five dimensions. It seems you get valuable information from the exercise.
Jump ahead a few months and this comment emerged: "I'm beginning to wonder when the money is going to start coming in." He and his wife paid six figures in tuition to get to her doctorate. So far, she has attended a lot of conferences and seminars, and job offers seem to be forthcoming.
But nothing but academic hot air so far.
My cynical side has the upper hand about their dreams.
