Pretty please, could you give us an update on the state of the site, and your work to keep the lights on? I'm sure it's been far more tedious for you than for us navigating the site, but some current info would be appreciated.
I've hesitated explaining this because it isn't going to be pretty.
I'm considering the options.
Here's what's causing the slow downs.
After 10+ years the current server we're on is full. The options are to delete site content to make more space, or move to a larger server. Migrating to a new server will take lots of work, time and more money. I pay the c99 bills monthly and right now we're barely in the black, a move to a new server will most likely put us in the red. Migrating to a new server will take lots of time and work, time that I have little of right now.
Then there's the move to new software, away from Drupal and to a new system. In essence I have to build a whole new site. That is going to take a huge amount of time and effort, and I mean huge, like weeks of work. There are no options for this problem.
It took nearly a month of work to build this present site because of the learning curve, and then countless hours to tweak it. That was 10 years ago. I was 10 years younger and had more patience.
I've always loathed to ask for more money, that's why I never do fund raisers. Enhydra lutris and others take it upon themselves to do that for the site. But we're scraping the bottom of the barrel, folks.
With that said, I'm working to find an affordable server that will fit our needs. And I'll cross the new site bridge when I come to it. It's either that or the final option, closing the site down, which I really don't want to do.
I’m glad you bit the bullet, and I truly hope you don’t regret it though it will be a time consuming and frustrating effort. Your effort and management mean a lot to many here.
I will bite the bullet, and sign up to pay pal, so there is a possibility to send a donation. Good luck!
for da kine replacement server. Asking for some friends.

Migration costs isn't the issue, what's the damn server gonna run?

I shopped around and was quite surprised. I found a VPS with better specs, lots more storage space for a few bucks cheaper than the current one. We're good to go for now.
We'll see tomorrow after the site propagates through the DNS.

Thank you Johnny for the update, I appreciate it.

How about some sort of hint as to requirements, specs

Good news, folks...
I bit the bullet. We're currently migrating to a new server. Hopefully it will be ready for tomorrow, and HOPEFULLY this resolves the slow down issue.
It cost an extra $200.00 for the migration, so if anyone can help defray the cost it would be greatly appreciated.
If the site appears any wackier than it does now, the move to a new server is probably the reason.
Hopefully I'll have more info tomorrow.
Done.
I hope it helps! This place is one of the few things that is helping me keep a shred of my sanity...
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
Thank you, sir.
I got 150, you should have it by now. BUT
