Friday Night Photos Small World Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 05/02/2025 - 5:00pm
Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.
The Balboa Park rose garden is in full bloom right now so yesterday I grabbed the macro lens and spent about 3 hours hunting for bugs. Unfortunately the pickings were pretty slim. Lots of bees and flies but not much of anything else. I ended up taking more shots of roses than bugs. Oh well. Some days you bite the bear and some days the bear bites you. Hopefully next time I get to bite the bear.

Hi, Q
Hopefully yesterday was just an off day in the garden and not a long lasting environmental thing.

Nice work!
Functional and decorative. When you need something done right, do it yourself.

Hi Q
Spring in the NE is aways a delight to see, so green. Your well design has so much character, and the time-weathered cedar is always so beautiful.
Hi Social
You make the most common insects a vision of great interest.
I loved hearing Sergio Mendez again, thank you for all. I will post some photos tomorrow.
Cheers
Thank you, Janis
Looking forward to your photos tomorrow.

Hi, obf
Hope you get some rain.
We have a chance of rain in the forecast for the next two days. Normally I'd welcome it but tomorrow I was planning on photographing the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Old Town. I don't know if rain will cancel the event but it sure won't help.

Hi all
I was awakened on a stormy night this week by a heavy crashing sound. With a flashlight and some trepidation, I went out to look if anything had shifted in the area of a landslip that occurred over two years ago. To my relief all looked stable as far as I could see. The following day I noticed something missing from view, a very old, towering Kanuka that had been slipping for decades was gone, and although it revealed a fresh view I miss it. If it was accessible it could become the best firewood this environment has to offer. Yesterday was the first dry day in a forecast for 5 more, which is very timely after almost three weeks of inscessant rain.
Photo of the Kanuka in the rain before it slipped
Recent photo without Kanuka
Here are two photos showing the original planting of the landslip 7 months ago, and the incredible growth since then. The young trees and roots will continue to grow and hold the land together hopefully, as a lot more rain will come over the winter.

Be well and safe all.
Hi, janis
Bummer you lost the Kanuka tree. Good thing nothing else went with it.
Mother Nature sure is a fickle thing. First you don't get rain. Next thing you're wondering if it will ever stop.
The plantings on the hill are coming along nicely which should help keep things from slipping and sliding.

Once upon a time ago, fickleness had to do with affection. Now it seems it has more to do with the climate.
Wishing us all more steady environmental changes.
