Friday Night Photos Travelogue Pt7 Edition

Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.

Tonight we close out the travelogue series back where it began in Monterey, with a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This was my first visit to the aquarium. Compared to the Birch Aquarium here in San Diego, the MB aquarium is absolutely huge.  I only saw a fraction of what was there and definitely want to go back again. I found the jellyfish to be the most captivating exhibit. You could spend a couple of hours just watching their underwater ballet.

In the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is declared mentally ill for describing colors.

Yes Virginia, there is a Global Banking Conspiracy!

Cool video. Great music to compliment the very strange and interesting looking critters. Thanks for sharing.

You couldn't have picked a better piece to compliment the subject. The flute is a wonderful sound to accompany the movement of the jellyfish. Thank you also for the pleasure of listening to Shadowfax again.

@Socialprogressive @janis b This used to play in a kiosk at the Aquarium, which I grew up within day-trip distance of; I've been there many times, and that video and I go way back.

Such beautiful photos of such mysterious and ethereal creatures. I wouldn't want to be hugged by one though. They are all so uniquely shaped and coloured. The transparent ones and patterns of dots are fascinating. I wonder what the dots are, camouflage, decoration, or part of their function?

Thanks Social, much appreciated. I'd love to see that exhibit in person. Did you also film them?

I bet being hugged by one would be a memorable experience. Just not in a good way. I don't know why they are marked and colored the way they are. I do know they are fascinating to watch.
I don't have any video of them but here's a link to their webcam.

Watching the jellycam got me to add the aquarium to my list of places to visit while I was in the Bay Area.

Decorated by nature

It’s one of New Zealand's gifts of nature, and celebration of the holidays. It’s the Pohutakawa tree, whose other name is the Christmas tree. The flowers are bright red balls of colour on large broad trees.

be well all and enjoy the holidays

Mother Nature did a nice job of decorating for the holidays. The Pohutakawa tree reminds me of bottlebrush. Happy holidays to you, too.

@Socialprogressive

They are related. The Bottlebrush are from Australia, and the Pohutakawa are endemic to NZ. The Tui birds love them equally.

You couldn't be more right, most of my favourite gifts are from nature. Thank you for all your personal naturalistic gifts ; ).

Hi all, Hi SP!

Great Jelly photos SP! Beautiful creatures. Those Purple-striped ones often would wash up on shore in socal, sometimes making it dangerous to walk barefoot on the sand. The purple is gerat. Love those Garabaldi too, the CA state saltwater fish. Have kept one, seen hundreds if not thousands. They were very common along King Harbor breakwater in Redondo Beach, and off San Pedro.

Nice tune too. Private Idaho was another good B-52 song.

Unfortunately my vision is impaired now for the time being... so hard to see , esp. this gray text.

Thanks for the great photos SP! Beautiful work!

happy trails all!

I've been fortunate and haven't come across any jelly's on the beach or in the water. Love Private Idaho, definitely another great B52's song. Sorry to hear about your vision. Hope it's nothing serious.

I hope your impaired vision is soon restored to clarity, and your eyes see as clearly again as your ever- bright heart.

The jellies are so colorful.
The jungle shot from Janis b reminds me of my trip to the North Island back in 2000. Did some diving around Poor Knights Isle, just stunning scenery above and below the surface. Even did the underground river rafting through the glow worm cavern.
Cherished memories.
I spoke last week in my OT regarding the five year anniversary of spotting Salmon in Otter Creek through my farming parcel happening this week.
Well, the creek was full of them today, as E2 and I stood and watched a score of them spawn just five feet below us. The biggest one was nearly 3' and fatter than my arm.
I took some pics and video with my old Samsung dumbphone and sent them to my son, but he said the quality was really poor.
Still working on conning my brother out of his digital set-up that he never uses. I would sure put that stuff to good use and join the fun here every Friday.
E2 has a brother with a brand new computerized digital telescope that he has never used except in his back yard in the full glare of big city light pollution. I have tried to coax him into join us out in the Oregon outback for some real Dark Skies viewing, but he seems to have lost interest in using it.
She is working on him.
Wish us luck.
Thanks for all the Friday night photos.
One of my favorite nights.

Glad to hear the Salmon returned and you had the opportunity to watch them spawn. Even if the photos didn't turn out great, you still have the memory of watching them. Hope you're able to get your brothers camera kit and get your BIL to join you with his telescope.

How wonderful that you got to explore one of NZ's natural wonders. I have heard from others as well how special an experience it is.
