Friday Night Photos Grapes Of Wrath Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 07/26/2024 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.
I didn't get out with the camera this week. These photos are from a visit to the Bernardo Winery eight years ago.
Bernardo winery, located in the Rancho Bernardo community of San Diego, has been in continuous operation since it was founded in 1889. Since it made sacramental wine for the Catholic church it has the distinction of being one of the few producers of alcohol that was allowed to continue production during prohibition. Along with the wine tasting room, the winery also has an Italian restaurant, gift shops and antiques up the wazoo.

great pix series of the vinery

because I'm a wood kinda guy (and a wino)
appreciate the shot of the saws on the wall
the curvature of the handles is special
made for hands, tools built to last
Hi, QMS.
The last thing you would expect to see at a winery is a wall full of saws. Or all the other antiques for that matter.
I'm not a wine drinker so I don't know if their wine is any good , but since they have been in business since 1889 I'm guessing it must be good.

I'll let you know
if you send me a bottle ; ).
I'll get right on that

Wait ...
don't you need my address on that!
It appears to be a combination of a winery and a museum.
Great images as usual.
Hi, humphrey
The nice thing about this museum is you can take and drink your wine as you wander around the winery.

Hi Social
How apropos the grapes of wrath is … and the solution ; ). Thank you for the photos and music, and lyrics. The Grapes of Wrath is one of the most heart wrenching, yet beautifully written books.
The saw handles are great. I love the combination of art and function.
I saw the movie when I was a kid
I'll have to read the book

The book is much darker
Hollywood, of course, had to candy-coat the message and offer an upbeat ending.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
I really hate it when
the movie doesn't follow the story line of the book. If the book was good enough to turn into a movie, why would you change it?

If you ever read the book, you'll know why.
Oh, they kept the main beats, rearranged the chronology a bit, and found a good place to stop telling the story. So it's not a total travesty. But it sure isn't exactly what Steinbeck intended.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Evening all
All in a day of very dense fog, with the sun finally breaking through in the late afternoon …
I think I saw more spiderwebs in a day than I’ve seen in a lifetime.
Enjoy the weekend and be well
Wowzers!

Into the mystic there
thanks for catering it for us
feels like your scapes are from
another era
Thank you Q!
I'm sure you can relate, being close to the mystic yourself in mind and proximity. As i looked at the images I photographed I was reminded of swampy areas like the ones I knew in your vicinity.
I am always amazed at impressions shared.
Oh, and Van Morrison
couldn't express my thoughts any better.
oops, just re-read my post

beautiful images
That's funny
because I thought 'catering' was a good word for preparing a satisfying meal.

Hi, Janis
Nice shots of the rain forest with all the spiderwebs. Amazing how much a little fog reveals.

Hi Janis!
Great photos! They make one just keep looking. Which is a sign of an excellent photo! It always looks amazing in your photos! Expecting something to jump out. Beautiful work Janis!
thanks!

A very nice and thoughtful piece
on the hibakusha. I feel very close to them, these days.

It's a tragedy what we did to the people of Japan in WWII. I keep my fingers crossed we don't repeat anything like that again.

Hi pixelators
Hi all, Hey SP!
Grape photos! I mean great photos! Love all the old stuff too. The bird sculptures look like they were modeled after Heckle and Jeckle, a couple of my childhood favorites.
How was the vino?

Hi pixelators
Here are couple pixels... gotta go though...
I have not been able to get out and shoot either... these are a month ago now, and just got them off the camera... They are Painted Bunting. Fairly sure they are first-summer males, which look like females, but are often somewhat brighter limer above, and sing like males from the tops of trees. A small percentage of one year old males may show some salmon or yellow below, but most are female-like in color. It takes the males two years to acquire full adult type plumage. Which is the case for many songbirds. Most though look more like full adults than Painted Bunting one-year olds.
gotta fly!
Happy trails!

Wonderfully animated and closely captured photos d!
I feel like I am getting to know Buntings through your eyes and experience.
That's a good sized seed in its mouth.
Hi, dystopian
Thanks for the info and action shots of the Painted Buntings. The immature males look so bland compered to the beautiful coloring of the adult males. Hope you see some of them soon.

Thank you Hindsight

Does the unidentified tree and flower have fernlike leaves?
Possibly this?

Hi, Hindsight
Great shot of Sehlat. Thanks for showing us what's outside your door.

Those pics are 8 years old, Sp? You're
pulling my leg. They are ABFAB!!!!! The bird fountain is a great one. Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon, too. Van Morrison might have been an egotistical PITA, but he had the talent to back it. Into The Mystic is iconic, period! All the images on here are eye candy. More good news from ECFL: I'm seeing a few more Monarchs as in Butterflies. Watching for the Swallowtails. So far, so good on the stormfront. However, we're heading into the peak months starting on August 1st. Bah humbug!!!!!!!!!! Hope you guys/gals are staying cool and dry. Sp, you okay on the fire front? Anywho, Rec'd!!!!

Hi, obf
Right now there is one small fire burning in the northeast corner of the county. It started on Wednesday and is 60% contained right now. We've been lucky to have below normal temps so far this summer. There were a few days when the mercury hit the upper 90s, but the rest of the summer has been in the low to mid 80s.
