Let's say Goodbye to eyo, and express all our love and respect, shall we?

Eyo, a site member stricken with Multiple Myeloma passed away on Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024.

I received the following email Monday before her last day:

"I am a friend of Liz Young’s. She wanted me to tell you when she has died. She is very close. She sends her very very best regards to “everyone @ C99”.

She told me how supportive so many at C99 had been to her when she was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

She is actively dying now and I imagine she will pass away today/tomorrow.

In solidarity~

Tina"

I responded that we all loved her. Then this:

"She is close. She is aware and I gave her your message. She smiled, and said mmmm.

I will let know when she has alighted into the realm of the Star Goddess (from her Starhawk book)

Tina"

Then this:

"Hello~

Liz has passed away, sometime in the night.

I was her hospice chaplain. The rare case of being of a similar demographic as Liz, rare to be seen in healthcare chaplaincy still, and I visited her weekly since she started on our service 18 months ago. She will be missed.

I don’t know if your tribute to her will be long or just that she has passed away, but if you don’t mind sending me a link/ or a copy email I’d be grateful.

I saw Liz at the end of the day yesterday and she was peaceful and dignified as she traveled her last leg of her life and dying journey. In her own home, quietly, as she had wanted.

As Liz would say “Peace be the journey” and may it have been so for her in every way~

Tina"

Good people, eyo loved this site because she loved us all so much, she loved our hearts, she loved our minds. She loved peace, loved women, loved anarchy, the entire 64 years of her life.

She lived most of her life in Marin County, was born in San Fransisco. Her maternal grandfather was the presiding judge in the trials of the wrongfully accused labor activists of bombing the Preparedness Day Parade in San Fransisco, 1916. He regretted his part in the sham trial, and she carried the family guilt.

This was the song she listened to during her last days:

I knew this was coming, but still thought she would be a miracle recovery. I could not let that go, because if anyone would defeat the odds, she was my candidate of choice.

I will be sending this, as well as the comments, to beautiful Tina.
We were all lucky to run across eyo, and may we run across our own Tina on our way to the stars.

Eyo, dry our tears, please? And thank you for making the stars brighter.

Eyo. Always missed. Never forgotten.

I'll forever miss her wicked wit and biting commentary. She was so funny.

She was a strident advocate for the downtrodden and never hesitated voicing her opinion against the system that worked too well for the wealthy class and too little for the common folk. She fought that fight with the most effective resource at her disposal, her written warrior skills.

RIP, eyo. I will miss you dearly.

Many live were enriched by her efforts to continually reach out to others at the different phases of her life. A life of rich experiences within a limited geographical location. Old ways, new ways and continually changing. The sidewalk garden will always be an inspiration for me to keep planting and caring through easy and hard times.

The US System does work wonderfully at times, it does take continual effort to maintain, expand and prevent corruption. Many Thanks to the caring community of individuals and institutions providing assistance for Eyo (Liz) to live and pass in her home.

Now I am going to go outside, plant some seeds and hand water them in the spirit of Eyo.

Goodbye, eyo. I’m sad that your journey is over, but glad you are at peace. Give your brother a huge hug and have a beer for me.

Thanks, Tina and those who watched over eyo and made her passing better for her.

Farewell wonderful being.

Please remember us, and when our time comes let’s all celebrate the joy we shared here.

I am posting the beautiful photo that you took walking over your beloved Russian River. You took it in honour of river rover when she passed. It’s such a gentle reflection of you and your spirit of peace and love.

I haven't been able to listen to it since she has been gone, without tearing up.

I also am making a playlist of music that I would wish to express my feelings of life if it becomes difficult to express in my own words.

Having worked in hospice in some capacity for many years, I wish for everyone to express their deepest feelings in one way or another before they pass.

@janis b your point of view, and in truth, the site participation in this farewell is not just for Liz, but for Tina to have her closure, as well.
I had no inkling of your involvement in hospice.
Bless you, chica.

After the many blessings of sharing some deep personal relationships, and the raising of a beautiful daughter, the hospice work I've done over the years has been the most satisfying and rewarding.

@janis b rock, and aside from hospice experience in common, you both loved Liz, a/k/a, eyo.
I can hear eyo's "mmmm..." when she heard that we on the site loved her. She knew we meant it.
Eyo was having some housing uncertainty, had an opportunity to live in AZ, if she could get there. Plans were being made to raise funds, get a crew together, then, she got her bad news.
Dear One and I were pricing U-Haul
trucks and trailers.

We often communicated off line, and traded several gifts over the years. I appreciate Tina telling us of her fate...a fate that will come our way too.

My B-i-L died yesterday as well. This is one I'll sing at his funeral Friday and I'll leave this here for Liz as well. Good bye good friend. Peaceful journey.
Lay Down Your Weary Tune

Lay Down Your Weary Tune
Bob Dylan

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum

Struck by the sounds before the sun
I knew the night had gone
The morning breeze like a bugle blew
Against the drum of dawn

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum

The ocean wild like an organ played
The seaweed wove its strands
The crashing waves like cymbals clashed
Against the rocks and the sand

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum

I stood unwound beneath the skies
And clouds unbound by laws
The crying rain like a trumpet sang
And asked for no applause

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum

The last of leaves fell from the trees
And clung to a new love's breast
The branches bare like a banjo moan
To the winds that listen the best

I gazed down in the river's mirror
And watched its winding strum
The water smooth ran like a hymn
And like a harp did hum

Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum

All the rest of us should remember to value every day, and treasure our friends.

To paraphrase Liz...Make soil not war!

from Tina, whom I consider a master of "closure".

From Tina:

Thank you, how beautiful the messages are remembering her. I am grateful too for your thoughtfulness about me and closure. I am touched. Since everyone I meet as a client in my job dies, I am like a beach and wave after wave of death, liberation, sorrow, joy, they do slowly wear away at me grain by grain. Moreso when there’s a connection such as with eyo/Liz. Thank you and your community for loving her, she felt it, and she wasnt alone. May all beings know peace~
