Hunter Biden Reaches Plea Deal In Gun, Tax Case

The president's son will plead guilty to some federal charges.

Hunter Biden has reached a plea agreement on tax evasion and gun charges, according to court records filed Tuesday.

The second son of President Joe Biden agreed to plead guilty to two counts of “willful failure” to pay his federal income taxes and will enter a “pretrial diversion agreement” on a gun charge, which is not expected to be prosecuted.

Hunter Biden’s attorney, Chris Clark, said in a statement that “it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.”

Biden is expected to enter his plea in a Delaware federal court at a later date.

In a statement, a White House spokesperson said, “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment.”

Zero Hedges has more.

Hunter, 53, is now expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges of failure to pay in 2017 and 2018, for a combined tax liability of roughly $1.2 million. He'll also admit to illegally possessing a weapon after his 2018 purchase of a handgun - which will likely result in a 'diversion program' which would result in the removal of the gun charge if all of the program's conditions are met.

In total, Hunter will likely receive two years of probation and diversion conditions.

The federal investigation into Hunter Biden began in 2018, and initially centered around Hunter Biden's finances related to overseas business ties and consulting work. Over time, the international business dealings were dropped from the investigation - perhaps due to Joe Biden's alleged involvement - and the focus shifted to Hunter's failure to report his income, as well as whether he lied on paperwork to purchase the gun in 2018.

Form 4473 is required for gun purchases like the one of Hunter in 2018. It asks:

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.

From the comments:

While J6 defendants rot in a DC jail.

Indeed. Plus many people are serving long sentences for basically misdemeanor trespassing.

A 5 year investigation into his tax evasion which as you might recall was supposed to be Russian propaganda just before the election after 51 ex intelligence agents signed a letter stating that it was and on behalf of Anthony Blinken which should have been prosecuted as election interference. That gave Biden cover during the election to say that it was just Russian propaganda.

And how many people are in prison right now for felony gun charges? Hunter lied on his gun application and said that he was drug free. Let’s see how many corporate stenographers write about this.

But there you have it folks. Anyone else who did what Hunter Biden did would have been charged long ago. I wonder if Hunter will have to pay any penalties like you or I would if we hadn’t paid taxes on $1.2 effing million!

Looks like serious stuff to lie on Form 4473.

Federal Prosecutors Aggressively Pursuing Those Who Lie in Connection With Firearm Transactions

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) requires prospective firearm buyers to complete ATF Form 4473. This Form requires buyers to answer several questions, including those about the buyer’s competency, criminal history, drug use, immigration status, and history with domestic violence. Applicants who knowingly make false statements may also face criminal prosecution for a felony and up to 10 years in federal prison.

Hunter was a life long addict. I wonder what the anti-gun democrats have to say about this.

should get a pass on the gun charges. Lots of them are blaming republicans for wanting everyone to have a gun…they go downhill from there. Check the diary on the front page of DK. But they’ve come a long way from saying that all the charges against Hunter is just Russian propaganda… Smile

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg @snoopydawg That was some apologia from a dk staffer. I looked up what type of gun Hunter had. It was Colt Cobra .38 Special which is a 5-shot snub nose. Now the official gun of the DNC. Pretty expensive revolver starting at roughly $700.

As an aside. DK must be one of thee most pro-war websites of either party. The make sure they have some staff written, or user written diary telling people that the Ukrainians are winning and the Russians are an incompetent, drunk, mongrel people. Ironic that the website started as an anti-Iraq war "bulletin board".

Vodka swilling drunken Orcs whose equipment is inferior to anything Americans make followed by diaries complaining about anti semitism (sp?)

Kos addressed the hypocrisy of the site being built on being anti war because sometimes you have to back those fighting against an eternal enemy and for freedom and democracy and lots of BS like that. Others say that they are still anti war, but….. It makes my head spin.

It’s 'Joe Rogan is a possible stochastic terrorist' for daring to offer a platform for Hotez to address all the concerns he has with Kennedy’s views on vaccines. It’s okay for Hotez to lie about how safe and effective the jabs are, but it’s terrorism if someone has a different opinion on them and offers to debate them. Hotez ran to Medhi to complain about how he was ambushed and stalked on father’s day because one reporter asked him why he wouldn’t take over $2 million to debate Kennedy. Apparently that is considered possible stochastic terrorism.

Hotez also complained that no one wants to talk about Covid anymore, but here is his chance to do just that, but he won’t.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said a plea deal on tax charges for Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, will not slow down House Republicans’ investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings.

“It continues to show the two-tier system in America,” McCarthy said of Hunter Biden’s plea deal. “If you are the president’s leading political opponent, the DOJ tries to literally put you in jail and give you prison time. But if you are the president’s son, you get a sweetheart deal.”

“Now this does nothing to our investigation,” McCarthy told reporters Tuesday morning. “It actually should enhance our investigation because the DOJ should not be able to withhold any information now saying that there’s a pending investigation. They should be able to provide [House Oversight Committee] Chairman [James] Comer [R-Ky.] with any information that he requires.”

Later on Tuesday, McCarthy suggested that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is claiming that the investigation is ongoing to try and withhold information from the House.

“How can Hunter Biden plead guilty, no jail time, and the DOJ say there’s still an investigation, try to withhold information to the House? That’s unacceptable and will not stand,” he told reporters.

for a non- white, or poor white, defendant. Must have white skin and money.
FWIW, The diversion is from criminal justice system to a private contract between the defendant and a probation department. It only goes back to the criminal court docket if the defendant breaches the contract. The contract terms are pretty much sealed, unavailable to the public unless breached.
Want to bet Trump is not offered this option?
Politics and an upcoming election is ham string his prosecutors, as if they were thinking of a sweetheart deal for him in the first place. Pre-trial Diversions virtually always involve paying a sum of money that exceeds what typically happens in court.
