60 knot winds is really moving along. Hope the tree didn't cause to much damage to your neighbors house. A few years ago my brother had a tree come down on his roof during a wind storm. Thankfully the damage was minimal.

to install hurricane ties in the rafters

How fun for the zoo to decorate like this. This is 25th street all decked out in Xmas colors.
On the left is Xmas village full of tiny little houses and it’s been there since long before I was born. That’s Union Station at the bottom and 25th used to be the red light distract and lots of bars.
Oh the memories they bring of me being 5 and visiting the place and going from one house to the other and then waiting to see Santa! Just driving by there now brings a smile to my heart.

I visited the Gannets. As the Crow flies the colony is only 15 miles from home, but since I can’t fly my travel time is well over an hour. Although there is a railing between the observer and the Gannets, if you stick your arm through you could reach one. It is quite an amazing experience to be that close to such a wonder. As if no one was there they just go about their daily life, constantly chattering while sheltering their little ones.

What I think you think is beach is actually a very high rocky cliff that the Gannets are sitting on and flying over.
The ice bubbles are fantastic! I might try to replicate it on crushed ice myself.

QMS, awesome lighthouse pic... reminds me of a few seabirding trips I was on... btw, salt spray eats cameras. I once went on a New Hampshire pelagic trip in February (birders know no bounds!). When we hit the swells the spray flew up and froze before it blew into your face at 20 mph. Bracing shall we say? The King Eider at Isle of Shoals was nice.
Janis, OUTSTANDING Gannet photos! How cool you got to walk up to a colony close like that! Whaddabird! Gannet are closely related to Boobies. Three species of gannet, six of booby, in the world. The three Gannet are Northern in North Atlantic, Cape in south Africa, and the Australasian Gannet is yours, shared with Oz. They make spectacular dives into the water for fish, from higher than boobies, and go deeper. Very neat, great pics!

Maybe on one of your flights you can stop over at the gannet colony, just let me know and I'll meet you there ; ). I didn't get down to the beach where I could observe their fishing technique, but will try to do that the next time. Check out the link I posted of the surfer's experience of the birds when your computer allows.
