Friday Night Photos Winter Solstice Edition
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 12/24/2021 - 5:00pm
Happy Winter Solstice to all. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or some other pagan ritual of your choosing be safe and enjoy the season. As always, post whatever you got.
My plan was to get one night this week and get some photos of the holiday lights, unfortunately my back had other plans and I was not able to get out so tonights photos are reruns from the past.
Well it wouldn't be winter without a winter scene.

And some colorful lights for the solstice celebration.

Lets not forget some traditional solstice season music.

Hi Social
A little Christmas cheer for you and your back.
It’s always a pleasure to see your photos again, and the music is beautiful too, thank you. I hope you find more relief soon, and can even still catch the holiday lights. You can always ask me to cover for you, and I would be happy to help.
I hope you’re all warm and cosy and enjoying whoever you’re with, even if it’s only you.
I celebrated Christmas eve last night with my closest friend and her family, who are like my family after all these years of shared life.

Evening, Janis
Very nice shot of the tree. I love the way the light transitions from light to shadow.
Hope you had a good time with your friends. I have some very good friends who are like family to me that I will be visiting tomorrow. Nice Chuck Berry selection and thanks for offering to fill in. I should be good to go, but if not, I'll let you know.

Thank you Social
It's nice to share this space with you.
Enjoy your visit tomorrow.
Hi Janis
Is that the fruit of that palm type tree or somesuch? I think you have posted other pix of that fruit... Is this photo a nocturnal shot with flash as it seems? Neat pic! Thanks for sharing your images with us here!
happy happy joy joy!

You're right about the fruit of the palm (Nikau).
It does look very much like it's blitzed. It was taken late-afternoon a few days ago. There is much depth and contrast naturally, which is slightly enhanced in 'photo' on my laptop.
That is one bizarre tree!
...I'm just saying I'd be slow to turn my back were I you..

Thanks for the link, Moonbat.
I've read a lot of Sci-Fi over the years but never any Lovecraft. I'll have to check out his work.

Lovecraft is Horror not Science Fiction
Not saying he/she isn't good. Just complaining about the category.
I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.
I beg to differ
I suppose the "horror" is really just withdrawal from a centuries-old addiction to collective narcissism. Notice how his 'antagonists' are technically the ones with a better grasp of the truth?

Hi Moonbat
If you flip the image it will look less bizarre, and more like a palm tree.
I'm glad you enjoy the bizarre ; ).
Happy solstice all!
Hi SP, and all! Hope all had a good solstice! GREAT pic of Julian with snow SP! Wow! Camped in the area a few times, in between 1960-66 as a youth. First Hummingbird Hawkmoth the family ever saw was at some Geraniums on Main St. in Julian, and this had to be pre-1965. Still rarely birded Mt. Palomar in 81 or so, last time was to hear a Saw-whet Owl. Thanks for being here and hosting, I really appreciate it. You do a great job man. Happy holidays to you and yours!

The best part about going to Julian is stopping at Dudley's Bakery. Best baked goods in San Diego county.

AHEM!! Julian Apple Pie; famous throughout SoCal.

Julian apple pies are execellent.
The only problem is trying to find one when it's not apple season.

a couple pics
This is a little wintry I guess... was last Feb. when there was no power here in TX.
These are live-oaks, I see taken Dec 30, last year. They do their annual leaf-replacement in March mostly, so are green through winter.
This icicle was in the big freeze too...
Have great holidays all!
Thanks again for your work SP!

Nice winter scene, dystopian.
Hope your power grid stays up this winter.

Hi dystopian
The photo of the stand of live oaks is magical.

Happy Holidays and Winter Solstice, you all!
Watched the very successful launch of the James Webb Telescope live from SA. Talk about exciting! And, it's really nice to see a diverse group of super intelligent humans doing something peaceful and positive for a change! I look forward to this diary and commentariat every week. Thanks and rec'd!!
