This is my new favorite subreddit.
People are starting to get it.
For whatever reason, people are beginning to wake up to the reality of our economic system.
but it has the exact same theme.
But the employers don't want to pay many poor people a living wage. They would rather theyjust went away, whatever.
Out of the cities. They are looking for an excuse. Its been like this since the Clintons. War on poor people.
It's pretty fun, I can sure relate to the general sentiment.
A number of years ago I read a book entitled "The End of Work". (Jeremy Rifkin) It makes a credible argument that work as most of us know it is going away, and that most work will be replaced by various forms of automation.
Of course this raises the question how will most people survive without work and income. That's a good question. I don't think there is a good answer. I think that currently the plan is just that population will shrink at some point substantially and that the injustices in the current system will drive that reduction in population. (See The Club of Rome: "The Limits to Growth" 1972)
The point I often try to make is that this process should be one in which society generally participates. Instead a number of autocratic international organizations and entities are working very hard to capture this process and lock us into predatory, parasitic outcomes where they make out like bandits and the rest of us are either enslaved by debt or fade away. A good example are the various foundations of billionaires and syncophants one example is the WEF with their presumptuous assumption that the world is solidly behind the corporatist Ponzi scheme system, who are trying to exploit the coronavirus epidemic to snatch away what (little) remains of democracy and lock the planet into repressive dictatorship by the mega-rich, on grounds that only themselves are responsible enough to behave rationally. (They are not!) However they themselves are arguably not behaving rationally as they should. Instead its arguably a huge theft.
There certainly is NO legitimacy to their scheme without a full disclosure of the details of it and its very real agenda, and votes on that agenda. A rigged simulation of democracy as we have seen thats lacking any disclosure whatsoever is not what is called for. Nor does it impart legitimacy to autoarky. What are they so afraid of? The answer is clearly democracy. Rule of, by, and especially for the people of coutries snd the world. They have gone to great efforts to remove the people from the picture of their increasingly illegitimate and frequently unwanted "global governance".
They are terrified of actual democracy because they know democracy which we have not seen for quite some time, works. It still would work, and bring prosperity, although perhaps not as one sided and stacked in their favor. . Work to fix things. Which is why they hate and fear it. They admit that democracy (which they frame as "majoritarianism") would make changes that are needed by society which they do not want. (Changes which are currently prevented by our so called "golden straightjacket") That's what they and their ilk cite as why it cannot be allowed to happen.
We never voted to cripple democracy.

where robots would do all the work so that everybody could enjoy lives of leisure. Of course that didn't take capitalism into consideration.
for thinking that might happen.
but I didn't understand capitalism then as well as I do now.

Universal Basic Income [UBI] will happen.
Basic Income consists of a periodic cash allowance given to all citizens, without means test to provide them with a standard of living above the poverty line

It has already happened in China. China has finally eradicated poverty for all 1.4 billion people who live there.
At the same time, China is a capitalist nation, complete with millionaires and billionaires and private ownership of homes and businesses. The Chinese also have a government that operates as a perfect participatory democracy, where the government's first priority is improving the quality and happiness of the lives of the people.
This is a simple matter for any nation that has already been industrialized.
