NY Daily News Desperate Attempt
to make bad news about Andrew Yang.
This was the front page cover and headline and full color 2 page story within the paper: "Yang Gang Warfare" and "Posse of backers a comfort to hopeful, But also gets him in hot water with offensive online posts."

This article wants you to believe that Yang's twitter followers are meanies, plus they aren't real.
Here are the twitter followers of the NYC Mayoral Candidates for some Perspective.
Andrew Yang 1.9 Million Eric Adams 6,036
Scott Stringer 17.7 thousand Dianne Morales 35,100 !
Ray McQuire 7,324 Maya Wiley 424,300
And for compare and contrast---Bernie 15.12 Million Bill de Blasio
1.5 million

Some explanation
Adams and Stringer have been in this race since 2018. Look at their numbers.
Dianne Morales is a new Progressive face. Maya Wiley has been on msdnc for a longtime.
Ray MacQuire is doing a lot of complaining and some insinuation about paid trolls, I think.
MacQuire is self funding and has little to no campaign except TV ads that were unwatchable. I find it more suspicious that he has more Twitter followers than Eric Adams. How much has each one cost him?
I realize that this campaign itself is not of much interest to our members, but i will post about it as long as it seems to me a useful discourse not just on Andrew Yang himself, but a commentary about how the Big Money interests come after non-conforming NOT DNC choices. There are parallels to Bernie 2016 and 2020---Bernie Bros! that we see now and possibly a united attack from all the opponents coming next. see Biden 2020.

I will always be interested in Yang as a candidate
I supported Yang early in the 2020 elections. This was always an easy choice. He is a man of superior intelligence. Highly superior. He has the right solutions to bring individual security to everyone. Only then can we come together to solve the massive problems we face.
China, by lifting all of it citizens out of poverty and insecurity and putting them in the middle-class, instantly created a consumer class that made China self-sufficient. You know what happens when you eradicate poverty? Your GDP instantly shoots up. China's GDP leaped from 6.1% to 8.3%. US is at 2.3% because the wealth of the nation is hoarded by only a few.
What does China's poverty reduction victory mean to the world?
Read how China accomplished it.
Yang's commitment to UBI is highly related to the quest for poverty alleviation. It is the only way forward. The US is a drag on the entire world and a doom on climate change.
Carry a flame and share the light.
.
So Happy to hear from you
I do not know much about China but everything you say about Andrew Yang reflects my view of him as well.
NYCVG
Sure, sure.
It had nothing to do with US consumers pumping up to $500 billion per year into the Chinese economy over the past 30 years while US corporations outsourced manufacturing jobs to China and eviscerated the US middle class. Yeah, a real economic miracle there.
They view Yang as a threat.
Else ~ they would be ignoring him!![Pleasantry](https://caucus99percent.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/pleasantry.gif)
"The “jumpers” reminded us that one day we will all face only one choice and that is how we will die, not how we will live." Chris Hedges on 9/11
Exactly.
Until a few days ago there had been massive daily coverage of his every appearance. And, every "gaffe." Which is what they call it when a politician says what he or she means. Then, for a day or two there has been no mention of Yang in the media. Apparently, neither approach has boosted anybody else's numbers either.
So now back to the attack mode.

Yang thinks like an engineer
We'll see if this works. But Yang has something that is being lost in the absurdity of political life in New York—he is a scientific and technological heavy hitter in the Asian (esp China) mold. Today's Mandarins all went to engineering schools including chairman Xi himself. The strategy of raising 500,000,000 into the ranks of the middle classes by encouraging massive building projects seems to have gathered a bunch of admirers around the world.
Thorstein Veblen's last book on economics argues that the world built by engineers needs a government that at least understands the wisdom of sound industrial policy. USA has not been blessed by any engineer-President that would demonstrate that Veblen was right. There have been only two—Herbert Hoover and Jimmy Carter. 'Nuff said. But it seems like China may be the culture to make it work.
What will really be interesting to see if Yang can get it right and whether New Yorkers will be willing to have their almost hopelessly corrupt government run by someone who has an engineering mind.
So happy
I think you've hit on something with the engineering angle. When I listen to Andrew I feel that he sees what is coming next and how to address the changes.
As you say, NYC had been a cesspool until our Current Mayor. The Powerful have fought de Blasio every second of his 8 years and seem determined to regain every penny of NYC's revenue when one of their ilk is restored to power.
. And that's what it's all about.

What building or
Mary Bennett
I am astonished to learn
that NYC voters care about people being mean. I guess the stereotype about New Yorkers being rude isn't true after all?
Yang is a likeable guy but I am finding it hard to believe that his mayoralty would seriously inconvenience NYC businesspersons. From the outside, this looks like a turf war, with an increasingly prosperous community of East Asian origin taking on a corrupt old guard. Yang must be a fairly honest guy, as businessmen go. If there were scandal to be alleged against him, we would surely have heard of it by now.
A couple of questions, NYCVG:
I gather what you are expecting is that the inner city communities split their vote between Adams and Wiley, and Yang takes the rest?
What do you expect or hope for from a Yang administration?
Mary Bennett
No doubt that
Scott Stringer's own words will doom his Progressive charade. (For those who missed it, yesterday's installment on the Community part of this blog quoted Scott at length talking to the Real Estate donors he represents, about his bogus and temporary Progressive claims.)
I expect Andrew Yang to boost NYC revenue with the example he is setting himself. He is at Opening Day of our sporting events selling our City and its safe reopening to tourists and residents alike. Every day finds him in neighborhoods across the 5 boroughs meeting with residents, small business owners and community groups. Hands on and speaking his mind.
I expect Yang to restore spirits and cheer our renewal and our Presidents part in effective Covid delivery. The cheer leading for Biden alone should have earned respect from the DNC. But, Power for Themselves is their only measuring stick and he is not their choice.
I expect Yang to listen to what parents are telling him and not so much to the teachers union.
He is the only candidate running who has his 2 kids in neighborhood public schools and his wife Evelyn is active in their PTA. Not gifted and talented upper class programs or private schools.
Yang has promised to fight to continue Mayoral control of the schools. He is the ONLY candidate who faced the UFT and said so. The UFT, Charter School pushers, and Governor Cuomo are drooling at the prospect of getting the school revenue back in their greedy fists.
There is plenty more, but enough for now.

I think that ranked choice voting will play a big part.
It is still new but the results could gang up on Yang.
Unlikely
Of course, this is a forecast and anything can happen.
The DNC must be up nights calculating their assaults.
NYCVG
What does the DNC have
The way the Dems go on about "inclusiveness" and advancing persons of color--to which I have no objection at all--one would think the DNC would welcome the Yang candidacy.
Mary Bennett
You're assuming they *want* to win,
when all indications are they just want the gravy train to keep rolling in their direction while they publicly wring their hands and wail over how they are so powerless and if only they had more money, more Dems in power, more people voting for them, yada yada yada.
Somebody who might actually win is the last thing they really want.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
Yang is not
Color only matters when it can win points for the home team.
NYCVG
The known unknown
In the previous NYC elections using ranked choice voting, the results were hand counted and accurate.
So, Humphrey, I am not counting any chickens just yet.

A bit of an explainer on ranked choice voting.

It could be similar to this.

Very good explanation
More likely, with 12 names on the ballot, whoever comes out of round one with the most votes holds on to the lead. That is what happened in NYC recently.
In 2013 Bill de Blasio was 4th at this point of the race. He was able to pull ahead because there were only 5 in the race and Anthony Weiner sexted for the second time and he was out.
In 2008 Barack Obama got ZERO votes in Harlem. That is one example of NYC rigging. That Machine regime---Charlie Rangel & his pals are long gone. So, in 2021 ballots will be tabulated by new untested machines. Anything can happen.
The DNC does not lose gracefully.
NYCVG
Thank you for that explanation.

Very Credible journalist
Ross Barkan will be covering the Mass Assault on Yang.
'
If it is not unreachable with a paywall I'll bring it here. If he posts it on his Twitter feed, we will all get to see it.

Photographic Proof
Actual unretouched photo of Yang's Yobs at a campaign rally for their candidate just before going on Twitter to demean women and people of color. "They're worse than Bernie Bros," said one anonymous complainer. "The Bros at least kept their shirts on when out in public."
