Things I’ve learned about politics

Howdy everbody, just poppin’ in to say stuff I’m afraid to post at the “other site”

- Arousing your base also arouses your opponent’s

- All politicians are dishonest some of the time

- Some politicians are dishonest all of the time

- Demonized people will act demonically

- Social unrest can be used to distract from wealth inequality

- Like electricity and magnetism, greed and power drive each other

- The Golden Rule is the foundation of all successful human interaction

Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.

Luke 6 : 2 KJV

“As ye would that men

would do to you,

do ye also to them”

One version of this or another goes back

to ancient times in Egypt, Greece, Rome and ever since

Note: the preceding was snark. No Teslas were harmed in the posting of this snark. This snark was supervised by members of the Gee We Really Think The Old Place Is Swell Society.

As my dear departed gray-haired mammy used to say, “Gag a maggot on a shitwagon....”. I don’t know how you can tolerate going back there....

I remember the first time my mother ever recited it to me, and I spotted a problem IMMEDIATELY:

What if not everyone WANTS to be treated the same way YOU want to be treated?

I know I don't; people are different. One person's kindness is another person's rudeness.

It's a pretty narcissistic maxim, really - possibly even cynical and sick, especially the way Jesus supposedly phrased it with all his frankly kind of icky talk of "love" (i.e. 'people are hopelessly selfish and cannot even COMPREHEND anything different from themselves, so morality just means projecting one's own narcissism outward').

Remember: NOBODY follows 'the Golden Rule' better than sadomasochists!

What a welcome surprise. Your uniquely personal political and poetical reflections will always be welcome by me. You were always a favourite commentator and essayist of mine over there. I'm really pleased you might contribute more here.

Kindness matters.

Giving respect to someone's differing opinion will bring great returns in your own being heard.

Unfortunately, that seems to have become the dominant zeitgeist in many places I used to frequent, even though they are wont to style themselves as open, welcoming, tolerant communities.

I particularly like the analogy of electricity and magnetism with power and greed.

We are a very divided country (I think on purpose). Promoting those divisions serves the oligarchs.

Hope you come back more often and engage in reasonable conversation, instead of the slanted views and dim(wit) propaganda over at the orange menace.
