My book, MY TRAVELS WITH A DEAD MAN is available for purchase now
Been working like crazy waiting for this day. Never expected it would happen in the worst year I can imagine. But that's life, as the song says. My book trailer follows:

You can purchase the book from my publisher here, or from Amazon (sorry, I'd prefer not to use Amazon, but they have a virtual monopoly on ebook sales, and this decision was made by my publisher, not me).
Now for some reviews.
Here's an excerpt of the review of the book from IndieReader:
In MY TRAVELS WITH A DEAD MAN Steve Searls explores the possibilities of time travel and parallel worlds while questioning the premise of free-will that poses many ‘what-ifs’.
What if you were able to live different lives through different times? What if you had a reset button to your life? What if you discovered you had a special ability that you didn’t wish for? These are just a few of the questions that Steve Searls throws out in his MY TRAVELS WITH A DEAD MAN, an extremely fascinating book. [...]
MY TRAVELS WITH A DEAD MAN is a highly entertaining and potent mix of alternative realities, philosophy, and science fiction. It can perhaps be compared to the German science fiction Netflix thriller series “Dark” in its complexity. Searls uses time travel to pose some important questions that make the story not just a heart-thumping read, but also a reflective one.
Steve Searls’ MY TRAVELS WITH A DEAD MAN is a compulsive page-turner that contains elements of romance, tragedy, adventure, journeys through space and time, terror, mysticism, and meditation. It’s a high-octane, multilayered odyssey that is perfect for readers looking for a little bit of everything. ~Swati Nair for IndieReader
And here's another from Discovery Books:
My Travels With a Dead Man is a genre-jumping, time-traveling, exciting thrill ride that you won’t soon forget. I know I certainly won’t! The story begins with Jane Takako Wolfsheim, a young woman who just discovers she has special gifts that can alter time and space. Jane is not sure whom she can trust, as she keeps having nightmares about a horrific figure she calls ‘the man in black’, and the man for who she has fallen, Jorges Luis Borges, dances and flits around the truth like a moth to a flame. Jane must discover the depths of her inner strength if she is to save not only herself, but the world as well.
Wow, what a ride! I found myself hanging on the edge of my seat during the course of this book. It was really hard to put down! I kept trying to guess what new twist or turn was going to happen next. It is definitely a very exciting read. One of my absolute favorite aspects of this book were the characters, particularly Jane. She is a protagonist that you just cannot help rooting for. She experiences so many things throughout the course of this book; horrible nightmares, emotional abuse and gaslighting from Borges, discovering about and learning to harness her powers. You would think this would be enough to break even the strongest of characters, but Jane keeps on fighting valiantly all through this book and it made me cheer her on the whole time! I also really liked the way in which this story was written. Sometimes books that deal with quantum mechanics can be overly wordy and confusing to the reader, especially if the reader is unfamiliar with those scientific concepts. But Steve Searls walks you through this book in a way that helps you understand what’s going on alongside Jane. I never felt confused or overwhelmed at all while reading this book!
I think this book was absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend it! If you are a fan of time traveling sagas I would expect you to enjoy this book thoroughly. I would also recommend it to readers who enjoy fiction with deep philosophical themes, like What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson. This book brings up many great topics that will keep you thinking long after you complete the story.
And one final one from Midwest Book Review by Diane Donovan:
My Travels With a Dead Man offers a paranormal story of magical realism as it tells of Jane Takako Wolfsheim, who discovers she suddenly can alter time and space after meeting a man calling himself Jorge Luis Borges, the famous literary [figure], whom she falls in love with.
The story opens with Jane suffering seizures in a park where she first meets the helpful but enigmatic stranger Borges, who sees that she receives medical attention. Borges returns to figure more heavily in her life, but in a less positive manner. When her parents are murdered and Jane flees for an elusive safety, danger follows her and Borges, leading her to question her sanity, her purpose, and her future.
My Travels With a Dead Man is satisfyingly original and riveting from the start. It follows Jane's struggles with her Japanese and American roots, her uncertain love and relationship with Borges, and her confrontation with both inner and outer forces that keep her future uncertain ...
Many surprises await Jane as she traverses the boundaries of a world she'd never quite acknowledged in her life, and as she comes to accept her special role as a 'traveler' in space and time who holds the power to change what feels like an inevitable world disaster.
Readers will become immersed in literary explorations of time travel, prophecies, tests of faith and determination, and Jane's drive to assure that events turn out in her favor for the sake of herself and her unborn child. They will find these flavors wind nicely into a complex, moving story of an effort to reshape the Borges legend into something that rejects the evil that is slowly penetrating Jane's world.
The fantasy and adventure components are nicely woven into a story driven by Jane's personality, passions, and love. They satisfactorily depict how a fairly ordinary woman falls into an extraordinary world and considers and uses her powers to change it. Fantasy readers, especially those with some familiarity with Borges, who are interested in a fast-paced, engrossing story of belief, faith, and changing relationships between men and women will appreciate the full-faceted flavors and complexity of My Travels With a Dead Man.
Its ability to keep readers on their toes with new insights into Jane's relationship with herself, her companion, and her spirituality are all exquisite flavors in an unexpected time travel journey.
I know this is a very difficult time for so many. If anyone is unable to afford a purchase of the book, but would like to read it, send me a message, and I'll see what I can do to provide with an ebook download (formats: .pdf epub and mobi) you can read on your computer or other device.
As always, I appreciate my friends and those who have read my blog posts over the years. I haven't been around much of late for various reasons, one of them all the energy required to market a book during this time of multiple crises our nation and the world are struggling to manage, usually unsuccessfully.
Thank you all.
I look forward to reading the comments.

Yay! I just bought your book
I sold my soul and signed back up with Amazon as I was reading about this new virus that hit the world back in March. I received a digital credit as a reward for allowing Amazon to ship my recently ordered items together at a later date, rather than separately and the next day. I wasn't sure what I'd use it for, and your book fell from the sky! It's now in my Kindle.
I stopped reading the reviews because they were telling me too much lol. I want to be surprised, but it sounds like it's right up my alley.
I'm so glad you finished it and can hardly wait to dig in!

that's what Mr. Besoz did, before he and his company
ever became an oligarch(y). Screwing authors over is not only a feature of a book-selling oligarch, it is a failure of character of single person, and the question is not how much money he made but with which methods he made it in the first place, when he wasn't an oligarch yet.
Congratulations that you made it through and achieved your goal. Wishing you lots of sales and deserved peace, pride and happiness over your achievement.
Good luck and Good Night. Stay healthy if you can.

congratulations!
but see: this is now NOT the worst year you can imagine.
i dunno, though; i confess i'm getting pretty philosophical about many of the 'horrors' afoot. what bothers me most is the needless pain and suffering so many are going through...through no fault of their own. and i do mean globally, not just in amerika.
anyway: hooray for you, stephen d!. it's brilliant news. ; )
Maybe not the worst I can imagine, but

This might be a great year for your book to come out. Lots of people have a lot more time for reading. Enjoy this special moment in your life.
Thanks
What's difficult is the marketing and promotion of books has been heavily shifted to the author. I've spent far more than I expected when I started this process.

Congradulations
on writing the book. No offense, but I would recommend getting a different publisher, one who would not use Amazon. I would much rather send you money directly for a PDF version, but I totally understand if that can't / wont happen. I get it. Maybe when it's out in paperback. I just can't bring myself to use anything by Amazon. I'm not willing to put any money into Jeff Bezos pocket.

Congratulations Steven.
No matter what is happening elsewhere, this is an auspicious occasion for you and your readers. Thanks for the information on direct purchase. It is truly amazing how much Bezos has penetrated all parts of the market(s). I truly wish we still had anti monopoly attitudes and rules that are actually used.
Best wishes for many sales and bookclubs. Sounds perfect. Hoping this finds you healthy and whole.

Wow Steve!
That’s fantastic news! As a fellow writer, you are inspiring me.
Must be very satisfying reading those reviews. Every author wants to be read, but being able to move people with their writing has got to please you.
Job well done. Congrats!

Just watched the trailer....
didn't know it's done for books (shows how much I know). Nice production and beautifully shown. Where does this get visibility? Must have cost a few.
Mini/micro documentary. Loved it.
