Liepar's New Site? Could We Talk?
Submitted by Gerrit on Wed, 03/30/2016 - 7:24am
Morning folks, before I head to my garage for the day and forget. I read the BNR every morning. Liepar's working on a new site - progressive wing. I think he wants to migrate the BNR there. I tried to log in for the first time since 2015 to talk to him about it, but I think I've been cut. I don't give a sh*t, all I want is to check in with Liepar. The thing is, another site would halve our effectiveness as proggies. Could someone please discuss with Liepar?
Or if that's inappropriate, please let me know? Sorry for a short article, I can't see the OT yet.
Thanks,
gerrit

Sorry about the OT
It is somewhere in Never neverland on the scheduler. Sometimes it is frustrating because I cannot retrieve it now. We just has to wait until the scheduler decides to post it. Arrrggghhh!
BTW, Liepar is a member here. I do not know how often he checks this site since he is a busy guy.

I think I might have to quit using the scheduler
It was over 50 minutes late today. That thing has a mind of its own.

LOL! I've had my own disasters with learning that thing :=)

Hi gg...
whatever time you set it for it will post within one hour after the setting. Your OT was not late today, it posted a few minutes before 9:00 AM your time. Set the scheduler an hour earlier next time if your worried about it.
For example: If you set the scheduler for 8:00 AM it will post sometime before 9:00 AM, depending on when the cron program runs. The cron program is set to run at least once every hour.
Sonebody please talk to LieparDestin -
about why it's important to spend so much time over at Daily Clinton.

I think its important for the
I think its important for the same reason that Bernie is fighting the Dem Party from within this cycle. Though its obvious that the DKOS ownership is in the tank for Clinton we've established something with the BNR that week after week has the highest impact, etc in the face of 'establishment opposition'. If I had time I would post in a lot more places but in the long run im just an average joe with a day job, fiancée and dog that all need attention as well, and since DKOS is where I started its why I've still ended up spending so much time there doing the BNR's. I understand that many people disagree with this and that's certainly their right
One of these days I look forward to venturing out from behind the cubicle and perhaps making a go of political coverage as a full time thing and that's what TheProgressiveWing is about... not competition with any other site like c99, dkos, etc.
I think you have done a great job, much
better than I could have done, even with delegating. You have made a difference.
I'll check out the ProgressiveWing.
I come to Dkos and Caucus99percent. It's not an either/or for me.
I love the edit function!
I can fix typos.
Seconded!

LD - First, thank you
for all that you have done and that you continue to do. You have taken on a YUGE job and have done it so well. Thank you again....
I do hope you understand why some of us just cannot in good conscience support you AT DKOS...what is going on there has been painful... both to experience and to watch. Many of us have YEARS of participation, some less than others, but not any less meaningful.
However, should you post your BNR ANYWHERE else, I for one, WILL support it...and will recommend it here and elsewhere... I will point friends and family to your new site and will talk HERE about things you discuss there...
Please help the Resilience Resource Library grow by adding your links.
First Nations News
I do understand
and have almost been right there with you/others on making that decision but then I thought about it I view it in terms of say how I embed a Bernie video in the BNR. That Bernie video may be hosted by Youtube (owned by google, yuge corporation) and feature Bernie on MSNBC (a yuge MSM outlet owned by yuge corporations). I think that even though it sucks that name recognition is given to the MSM outlet, and a small percentage of ad revenue or whatever goes into youtube's pockets... that seeing/hearing Bernie's message outweighs the negatives. Visiting only the BNR @ dailykos (and some other favorites perhaps) may indeed make Markos a little money or give his site more 'credibility' but at the same time perhaps its worth it to use the established infrastructure (though against us) to our advantage when possible. Its certainly fun to be a thorn in their side... all through positivity!
Progressive Wing
I'd love to talk more about that and what infrastructure is needed to get it off the ground. I may be able to help a bit.
I'm not a capitalist, so I don't know if this new party is suitable for me or not, but it has to be better than the parties we have now. And I do think the momentum/activism/vision that Bernie is stoking needs to be harnessed beyond this election. So, I'd like to see that happen.
I don't think it's a big deal for you to stay with the BNR on
the other site. I can't rec and comment there, but I can twitter your BNR, which I do. Would be nice to have it here as well, but gosh, I can't even imagine how you do all you do already on top of dog, fiancee and what else you do to make a living.
I don't know why I don't read it on your own website. My routine is still to hop over to TOP scam the recent diaries and ending up reading your BNR and eventually some of MB's lists.
The BNR will come to its natural end, when Sanders is nominated and/or elected as president. I wouldn't change something other than to post it here as well right now.
I really, really like your BNR. If I were a bit more literate in how to help with transfers of material etc. I would do it. But I am stranded with my capabilities. I know, shame on me.
Keep on walking. Go Bernine. Go BNR.

KEEP POSTING THE BNR ON DK !!!!
And people... KEEP GOING THERE TO REC IT!!

I agree, RA.
OCCUPY D KOS!!
It is truly sad that the Dem. party have devolved
to the state that it is now... that we are at the point where they purposely have decided to use the strategy of "divide and conquer." DKos just epitomizes that. I applaud your tenacity and understand your decision; I just miss your BNR. I am sorry, but I just do not have the stomach for Markos anymore.
Thank you for commenting here Liepar!
I hope after Bernie wins this election, you can spend more time here as well as your new site. I intend to continue to support BNR with my recommendations and retweets because I respect and deeply admire the wonderful work you have done on Bernie's and our behalf.

What am I missing?
Staying or not staying at dkos is not the issue as I read it. Because of its size, many people choose to stay there, and I would never question your decision to stay there. What "new site" are we talking about? Are you planning to create a whole new blog and post at that blog? If you are, that is still your business. However, I really don't understand how a bunch of small blogs (this blog, ek's two blogs, and others I probably don't even know exist) make any sense.
So please help me to understand what exactly we are talking about. Obviously, I respect your right to do whatever you please. Your production of BNR and dedication to it are amazing. I thank you for bringing Bernie supporters a place to gather and find out what's up. Whatever you decide, best of luck LD. I hope someone will clear up my confusion.

I registered the domain
TheProgressiveWing.com yesterday after realizing that nobody else owned it, and it came at the perfect time with the #BirdieSanders happenings. I posted in a dkos comment for suggestions of what to do with it. Right now I don't even have time to crosspost here or even to the bernienewsroundup.com website (DemeterRising does his best to stay up to date on that) so TheProgressiveWing wont be anything other than a URL for quite some time... down the road it may be where I wind up doing what I do at the BNR for Progressives as a whole, or it could sit unused and have been a waste of some bucks I shoulda donated to Bernie... don't know yet! First we have an election to win and my focus is on trying to get the BNR up everyday to help with that.
Thanks, LD
I remember you mentioning it, but I didn't know the internet had blown it up into an impending new blog. ;^) I read, rec., and tweet you regularly LD. You and a few others are the only reason I don't log out and never return to the DNC's stockade in the town's square.
My biggest objection to DailyKos is its childish moderation system and the way it represents itself as a progressive blog when it is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the DNC. It sure as hell doesn't speak for me.
I totally respect you and your right to do exactly as you please. I would hope that you, c99, and the reddit crew (and maybe even ek) could chat about a collaboration instead of splintering into groups like the left usually does. I realize you might all have different goals that can't be reconciled. But! "When we come together and do not let them divide us, there is nothing, nothing, nothing we cannot do."~ Bernie Sanders
It would be nice to have a large and vibrant challenge to dkos. Maybe then Kos wouldn't be so flippant about telling people to STFU and GTFO.
Thank again for clarifying.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
i alternate between c99 & kossacks_for_sanders on reddit
b/c, while they're different in their approaches, they both have the same goal in mind: electing a true progressive, bernie sanders (even tho c99 doesn't overtly endorse him).
the subreddit site is fast-paced & c99 is more detailed, but they're each equally enjoyable to me
I try to support the subreddit group, but
I don't think I get the place and maybe falling into a black hole. Just tell them for me that c99 is cheering them on.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
right back at ya, dkmich :)
there's much love for everyone at c99 on the kossacks for sanders subreddit.
While I support Bernie
I don't see c99p as a "Bernie Sanders blog".
I would like to think this blog is about values and an ideology, not about a certain person.
Yes g...
and in a few months the election will be over, but the issues will go on, and c99p will be needed even more.
Agreed!
"The “jumpers” reminded us that one day we will all face only one choice and that is how we will die, not how we will live." Chris Hedges on 9/11
This isn't a Bernie blog. Bernie is just the current issue.
This blog is issue oriented and an activist blog around those issues. Does this agree with what you said JtC?
I would like it if c99 could turn into what dkos was prior to being "brought to heel" by the Harlem lunch. It was a political force to be reckoned with. Now dkos is a lapdog for the Democratic Party.
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
yes, and I look forward to those times after the elections...
... because all those issues, I need always help to understand them. I look for c99p to do just that.

agree--& i should've used a different choice of words to
describe this site's raison d'etre. since becoming a member, i've learned it was in existence before bernie ever announced his run.
It's the third party space
if it comes to that! Excellent foresight LD!
There is a reason that little birdie landed when he did!!
Progressive wing indeed
"One Site to Rule Them All and In the Light to Bind Them"
Maybe you could eventually set up a 'Clearinghouse' Site at ProgressiveWing.com...kind of like a one stop shopping mall for Progressives. Less effort then having to come up with new content everyday - and will help keep all us cats semi-herded.
It's main use would be a place where lots of individual Progressive blogs could be listed under one roof... it is not meant so much for original content as a 'Progressive Virtual Coffee House".
Instead each independent blog/site could have its own 'space' with a header, and where a synapsis of it's links and headlines would automatically be posted and refreshed regularly. Laid out kind of like a Tumblr page with multiple individual frames.
Could also post twitter feeds, Facebook favorites and links to other Progressive resources.
You could use recipes from If This Then That (ifttt.com) to start off linking things until a more robust code could be written.
BTW - Just my humble suggestion - no worries if it is not so welcome.

But regardless, Thanks do much for all you do Right Now LD!
I think leaving the BDR on TOP is the thing to do - I know it irks the stuffing out of the Hilbots and probably the site owner as well. Thumbs up!

Hi Liepar! Long time no see :=) I hope you're doing well, mate,
Thanks as always for the BNR. Since BNR#1, it's been one of my first morning coffee stops. I'm really excited for your political career and we'll certainly support it to the max as well as you progressive wing site. I quite understand your time/energy/resource constraints and I don't want your progress impeded at all.
My concern is that we now have two spin-offs from TOP: the Reddit Kossack site and c99. Now, c99 was established before the TOP exodus, but as you see, it's now mostly a TOP grieving room until folks work through their stages of grief and we can move on to the future. With PW standing up, we're going to see TOP proggies head in three directions. I would wish us to at least think about the impact of that.
I'm all for distributed progressive consciousness-raising and activism. As long as we then also find ways to, ahem, cross-pollinate :=) That's my main concern. I look forward to this matter to be discussed in all three venues.
Fascists all fall in line; whereas free people pull in all directions, as the saying goes. But I hope everyone grasps that time is very, very short. Runaway climate change is here - now, today. Fascism is growing in the U.S. and Europe right before our eyes every day. Time is very short. I would want progs to at least be harnessed loosely in a team of horses. Otherwise the progressive wagon is never going to catch up to the fast progress of fascism and runaway climate change (never mind all the other problems.)
It's real good to "see" you again. Best wishes mate,

The reddit site is very
The reddit site is very Bernie specific. So I see it as more complementary, but hyper focused on Bernie, whereas c99 is more of a movement based site with some discussion on electoral stuff. I suspect that if Bernie loses the nomination that things there will have to change again, whereas c99 will continue being what it is.
I do agree that it's important that we have a central site or hub where all progressive issues are highlighted. I'm not even 100% sure that will be c99 longterm. But it's currently the best hope for it I think.
just want to say thanks
Hi,
I read BNR every morning. I'm not a member at TOP so I haven't been able to thank you or say how much your work means to me. Please let us know how we can support your progressive wing efforts. All the best cause you're the best!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
I can tell you are extremely busy
since I sent a PM to request an invitation to join the BNR group and have had no reply. Don't worry about it now - but if you do start full time I'd love notification.
I totally agree with you Gerrit
i van send him a kosmail asking him to contact you here.

Thanks, dkmich, that really helped; we know more about Liepar
plans for himself and the BNR. All we have to do now is fro the mods to coordinate a bit with Liepar and Mahali and we can all work together. Thanks again. OK, break's over for G; back to my planter box in the garage :=)

We need a Trivago for progressive blogs.
Ridiculous.

Thanks, tpe, you're right, we need it.
I had to search Trivago - being from the 60s/70s I don't have the faintest idea how, but someone clever could figure it out, eh. It's a real good idea.
(BTW, I hope folks abandon google; try DuckDuckGo. Google is for corporatists.)

Agree 100%
LD posting BNR here would be a win for everyone - other than Dkos that is. Mind you - a loss for Dkos is a win for the progressive movement so no down side at all.

He should redirect it here...
at least until he has something else up there.

Question...
...does the BNR Bernie Donation link give kos a cut of our contributions?
According to the page
which is pretty unambiguous. I would be very surprised if DKos was getting a cut with that wording.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
no
100% of the BNR Jar Donations go to Bernie Sanders.
There is another Dailykos link out there where the funds are split 50/50 with Sanders/Dkos.. but that has not/will never be included in a BNR diary.
If people bookmark the Bernie News Roundup grouppage, or my dailykos profile, you can literally read the BNR with only giving 2 'clicks' to markos.
Good to have confirmation -thanks n/t

As kos, himself, states
it's a big internet out there! If Liepar wants to start his own web site, I will support him as much as I support c99. The more progressive sites we have the better off we'll be in the long run.
I will continue to support the BNR at TOP with my morning comment.

You can read BNR
on http://bernienewsroundup.com/ 's website. I don't understand why people say they have to go to TOP to see it? Unless you want to rec it in solidarity, I can understand that.
Maybe I'm missing something? I've had a link to the above site in my browser for months, suits me fine.
It's important to me to leave a comment on the BNR.
That's the only reason I read it at TOFP.

This is true
People can even register/comment and submit their own content to the frontpage as well. Sometimes it is a day or so behind but some volunteers have done fine work at helping me create/keep the BNR site and keep it fairly up to date. Sorry for the loading issues.. after the initial wait it gets better, don't know what causes that.
I don't notice a loading issue
On my iPad.
Thanks for all the good work!!!
TY, sillia, for the BNR site link. I will only read it there now

gerrit,
just thought I'd let you know your account at TOP is okay, not banned or anything. (If that is your same user name over there.) It has been so long maybe you forgot your password. Well, I doubt you care all that much, but since you mentioned it, I took a look.
Thanks, OLinda! You are so gracious.
I don't care about TOP and only wanted to talk with Liepar. I do appreciate you taking the time to check. Forgive my rough talk: I'm driven by a sense of urgency about the future. I am so happy that Liepar popped in to help us understand where he is going with the BNR; it is such a precious resource for us. Have a great day and best wishes,

Please move AWAY from TOP - real fast. Cut the cord, folks,
and move on. Accept that it is a corporatist, conservadem site. Grieve, but fast, and move on. Leave TOP in the rear view mirror and build the progressive movement here on c99.
F*ck Moulitsas and the orange horse he rode in on. Leave him behind. You all know the story of the two monks who met a lovely young lady at the stream's bank. One of them offered to carry her through the fast current and then they went their separate ways. when the other monk was still fuming after a few miles, the first said to him," Why are you still carrying the lady? I put her down at the stream's edge."
Look at the community page: it's an emergency room triage after a multiple-car crash. That's fine; folks have to go through the stages of grief. But I tell you that the progressive movement needs you today to work on the future. Today. Please, please, please grieve as fast as is humanly possible, cut the cord, and move on. I long for the day when the community page is filled with real consciousness-raising and progressive activism. It cannot be an ER in triage for much longer and it can't just be a coffee shop. Please folks, the future is here and it's filled with fascism and rapid climate change. We've got work to do.
And please be patient with my being Cassandra; someone has to be Cassandra and I'm it because I have a bit more distance from TOP and your grief.

JtC, could c99 place a Friends Of The Blog in the sidebar?
Ideas:

Mahakali's Bernie site @ https://www.reddit.com/r/Kossacks_for_Sanders/
Liepar's site - Progressive wing, when it's up

I dunno what else, but it's a start, eh? What do you think?
