Report on DSA candidates for Congress forum 5/19/2020

Last night there was a candidates' forum sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America. All of the candidates were women and all of them were running for Congressional seats. They were:

Samelys Lopez, running in District 15, basically the Bronx.

Rebecca Parson, running in the 6th district in Washington state which runs from Tacoma to Aberdeen and up to Port Angeles.

Mckayla Wilkes, running in a Maryland district which is (as I understand it) suburban DC, challenging Steny Hoyer's seat.

There were (or so I was told) 114 participants in the forum. The participants were very much interested in supporting the well-beings of the least-advantaged residents in their districts -- Samelys Lopez works with a multicultural district which has a lot of concerns with poverty and with asthma, Rebecca Parson has to look out for significant homeless populations and struggling workers in Aberdeen and Tacoma, Mckayla Wilkes is a strong advocate of criminal justice and healthcare reform. All of these candidates are running on important parts of the once-upon-a-time Bernie Sanders platform. They are all strong advocates of the Post Office, which may need resuscitation by the time any of them, with good luck, gets into office.

Folks, when Barack Obama was in office and when everyone as too busy being mesmerized by his gifts as a public speaker, the Democratic Party gave away all branches of the Federal government, twelve governorships, and 900+ state legislative seats to the Republican Party. Those were a LOT of political careers in the last decade which were denied a foothold because Obama decided not to support them against Republicans. Do you want to support new people to replace the ones who never had a chance, or are we just into shaming people who shame other people who, in turn, maybe ought to be shamed because, you know, shame?

Check it out. And join DSA, or something of that sort.

After the Sanders campaign shut down. And thanks for linking Rebecca Parsons. She is fighting the DCCC as well as the actual problems. Right now she is trying to raise money to buy a mailing list because said DCCC will not let her use theirs to challenge an incumbent.

Wilkes was on Rising last week, and I’ve included her segment.

@Hawkfish An even bigger obstacle than Nancy Pelosi, who at least can send scathing letters and get under Trump's skin.

I hadn't heard of Samelys Lopez or Rebecca Parson until today, but if they want to run against DCCC conservadems I donated to them anyway. (I have sent McKayla Wilkes donations for some time now.)

I am supporting Rebecca Parson. I live in a rural part of her district and think she's great! Thank you for putting out these interviews and so on. I'm learning lots!
