My Banishment Was Commuted to a Time-Out

I just posted a "welcome back" satirical piece of at Kos now that I've been reinstated. Thanks to any who used whatever influence they might still have to try and make that happen. Though it was probably more the influence of 31,174 shares and clicks.

Not that anyone is ever influenced by money, I mean I'm not trying to artfully smear anybody.

Going to start a series that I will post FIRST over here and then maybe over there called "Democratic Dilemmas 2016". On a number of issues, we're caught between a rock and a hard place, particularly so if we have Trump v Clinton at the top of the ticket. But regardless of who wins the primaries, we have a lot of major Senate and House elections that will face these same dilemmas and it's time to think about how to address them.

If you can still stomach the orange site, would appreciate any tips, recs an warm comments. Or even mean comments. Cause unlike some people I never try to hide or flag or ban people who disagree with me. Even when their tone could use some adjusting.

Folks are a bit tetchy over there, I assume.

Looking forward to seeing your work here since I'm still limiting my time over there, plus not tipping/reccing anything during my self-imposed "time out". But you're right -- we've got House and Senate races to focus on as well regardless of who is at the top of the ballot.

HRC, as the voice of the "establishment" won't do much harm at the top of the ticket, but she definitely won't do anything to motivate the fence-sitters to come out in the General. She will get all of the votes against the Repugnican running then (probably Trump, ugh! it pains me to type that), but not a lot FOR her.

Unless you mean exclusively right wingers. Then, yes I believe Hillary at the top will drive turnout against her.
But a lot of us who could be grouped as Hillary haters (I dislike her deeply, intensely) are left wing and we recognize that we need allies in congress. To help Bernie with his agenda, or to stand for us until 2018, 2020.

Bernie people that show up to vote will vote down ballot dem. With few exceptions.
It's the ones that won't show up if Bernies not on the ballot that are the problem.

The Twilight Zone over there. I think a lot of the feeling is do to the fact that I was right there in the middle of it. I had nothing but bad feelings, and I started arguing with pod people! Oh my fucking god!

C99% is restoring my faith in humanity. Not an easy chore these days.

I've been begging people to just give me in a nudge in the right direction. I am having some physical trouble, but I'm not exceedingly stupid. I can be here, in front of my computer 10 hours a day, I've always been a great team player. I'm bored out of my skull.

(((((please help me!)))))

Do you think I should maybe delve into a few places to see if we can find some like minded people?

I really don't want to do polls here. I don't want other people to post them here. I am not an exception.

Sorry for going on about it. What have you been thinking?

I thought it was going to be hard, since I was a daily visitor since 2004. And I'm an old dog; hard to learn new tricks.

But, no. It hasn't been hard at all. All of a sudden, DailyKos has become like RedState to me. I won't go to either place. Why would I?

It's been two weeks for most here. When this site began, folks here spent a month decompressing and separating themselves from TOP, and those were the folks who left because they WANTED to, not because they were forced to.

The obsession with TOP is something we'll need to weather a little longer, but as new members begin to sense the substance they can add here, with strong diaries on issues instead of the gag reflex from kos's latest repetitive take on the presidential race, this site will resume its rise as TOP declines. Then the umbilical cord will begin here, and gradually people will wonder why they ever thought it was over there.

that is the title of a fun little story from my hometown my parents told me some 30 years ago.
A perfect illustration of the Tea Party mind, way before there was a Tea Party.

I wrote this up on purpose as a non-TOP related story because I wanted to contribute something to this site, then cross-posted a shorter version at TOP with a link to c99.
Can I perhaps get a bit more love :-;??? or comments, good, bad or ugly?

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/3/23/1505451/-Government-overreach-...

The title is obviously not drawing eyeballs, but at least I got 3 likes here vs 0 likes (zero :-(() at TOP.
Also, I got a flag for this at TOP! since the great innovation of anonymous flagging, you can't tell anymore who did this to you.
But apparently others can still find out and tell me (or am I wrong about this? anyone know?).

Thanks,

But I also rode this issue really hard on a couple help desk threads where I made a huge stink out of the fact that Greywolfe was banned while a follow-up LOTRs parody that compared Bernie to Hitler and ISIS didn't get its author so much as a TO. I'm sure the hits were one thing (and daily traffic numbers have been WAY down), but it also - with a little help - really exposed the level of hypocrisy going on by proving that rules were not being enforced equally.

They wanted to make an example of a Bernie supporter in particular and of a diary that so many people had read, recommended and shared on the other. Sad they picked a diary that didn't even mention Hillary by name and yet alone one that said we needed to support the stand in for her.

Though when Kos dropped the ban hammer (11am?) he would have never guessed it would have gone viral the way it did. He can be dense that way.

But still an example must be set! When someone countered my claim that 140 people had been banned in the first 5 days after 3/15 by saying "only a handful of real posters had been banned" I commented that a "ruler only has to shoot a couple of the more visible protesters to send a message to the rest" I was flagged for "violent imagery."

I have no idea how people with such thin skins expect to survive the general election.

What is this site about?

. . . Advocacy for candidates is fine, too, with a caveat.

The caveat is that advocacy of candidates cannot be couched so as to state or even appear that it is the site's policy or purpose.

There have been some suggestions, which frankly took some of us aback, that some people would like to use this site as a launching pad for twitter storm attacks on some candidates as a means to help do the dirty work of a particular campaign.

Please, no. . . .

Hope that's helpful.

I really do have very mixed emotions about TOP. I came there 11 years ago, not long after the 2004 election. My user ID # was in the 39,000s. I was looking for some like-minded voices and I found them there. Made it through the 2008 POTUS primaries. I supported Edwards (great message, totally compromised messenger) then I went over to BHO. In some ways, in early 2005, TOP saved my political sanity. But that was then.

I still log on. Mostly to support LD, his BNR and all other pro-Sanders diaries. I have made over 11,000 posts on TOP, but I find myself making fewer and fewer as we get past the Kos decree of a fortnight ago. Some kos users have given up for good. Some had no choice in the matter. My approach to becoming a regular again will be much like Hillary getting my vote if she's the Dem nominee: it must be earned.

Even if TOP gets back on what I consider to be a level playing field and I start back again as a regular or even semi-regular, I will never totally trust Kos or his motives. Much like getting back together with a cheating spouse, it can be done and successfully so. But there is always that element of doubt, no matter how small.

Then again, it could remain as an echo chamber for the remainder of its days. Time will tell.

by the Great and Powerful Kos. It's obvious to anyone with a functioning brain that a very high percentage of the best content over there is provided by Bernie supporters. Banishing people who clearly drive traffic to the site is truly a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

That said, though I completely respect all those who choose to continue participating in that community, I will not be among them. Whatever lip service Kos may pay to progressive ideals, it's very plain from his writings and edicts that when push comes to shove, he's all about defending and perpetuating the status quo. I would much rather give my clicks, my input and my energy to online communities whose operators actually support my beliefs, as opposed to someone who is actively trying to subvert them.
